"Fire. Air. Water. Earth.
Before she died, Avatar Korra did everything she could to put the world at peace, whether it was stopping wars, improving the economy, or even defending the planet from an alien invasion. She put the world in such a state of peace that fourteen years since her passing, no one cares that the new Avatar has yet to be found. Even back in Avatar Korra's era, people were relying on the Avatar less and less, so it's no wonder that most people wouldn't be bothered by the idea of us being done with Avatars.
Not me, though. As both a member of the Order of the White Lotus and someone who grew up reading story after story about the past Avatars, I never once thought that the world didn't need one, so when they needed someone to go looking for the Avatar, I put myself up to the task!
There were certain circumstances that made it not exactly a choice on my part, but still, I got to look for the Avatar, and somehow, I found her in a world of magic, a young witch named Amity Blight. She couldn't have cared less about being the Avatar, but I knew with all my heart that I needed to help her come into her own.
I couldn't explain it, but I knew that Amity would save both of our worlds."
-Summary of Transcendence as narrated by Luz.

Transcendence is a Fusion Fic of The Owl House and Avatar: The Last Airbender by FoxOnPie, the author of Neither a Bird nor a Plane, it's Deku!, Ars Goetia, I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Become the Ultimate Defensive Hero, and Owls and Bats Actually Can Get Along in which Amity Blight, who's lived a life of seclusion because of her wild witch magic, only to discover that not only is it not magic, but Amity can use it because she's the latest reincarnation of the Avatar. Also available on Archive Of Our Own.

Transcendence provides examples of:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Myohi to King, although there are moments when he doesn't mind being around her.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: Amity's absentminded father Alador actually bursts out laughing when Amity embarrasses his wife Odalia when she brings up the fact that she used to sleep with Lilith Clawthorne.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade:
    • Amity has been forced to live as a recluse for about a decade in order to keep people from finding out about her wild witch magic (her bending, in reality) with little to no contact with anyone outside of her family, no friends to hang out with, and she's constantly afraid of getting caught and thrown in prison. Chapter three adds onto it by revealing that she was bullied by Boscha as a kid because of a lack of magic.
    • Luz also gets this. She's more prone to needing a pep talk from someone to come out of a funk, she's a lot more bothered by people having negative opinions about her, and her desire to learn magic also stems from a desire to actually succeed at something for once.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • While the full extent of her abilities have yet to be shown, Amity being the Avatar gives her more abilities than she had with just magic.
    • Luz appears to know chi-blocking, and also has a pair of the same kind of electric gloves that Asami and the Equalists used. Chapter three takes it further by revealing she also fights with a giant robot with Energy Absorption and laser beams.
    • While nothing of her has been shown yet, Camila is this by virtue of being the Grand Lotus of the Order of the White Lotus. Chapter three makes it clearer that she's this by showing her as a powerful waterbender.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Camila is depicted as being very hostile through her interactions with Eda, and she comes off as more judgemental in regards to Luz's eccentricities, although she ends up having a Jerkass Realization about the latter.
  • Adaptation Origin Connection:
    • Amity naturally has this by virtue of being the Avatar.
    • Luz and Camila are both members of the White Lotus, with Camila even being the Grand Lotus.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Luz and Amity's relationship starts off better than in the show, and Amity has a better connection to Eda and King thanks to having more interactions with them.
    • Amity's relationship with her parents is still bad, but now she's more open with how she feels about them.
    • Amity is implied to have never ruined her friendship with Willow, her forced life of solitude being the only reason they aren't still friends, and Boscha was her bully rather than someone she was forced to be friends with.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Odalia is bisexual and apparently dated Lilith during their time in school.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Dialogue and actions from Hooty and Korra imply that Hooty has somehow met Avatars before.
  • Ancient Order of Protectors: Luz is a member of the Order of the White Lotus, an elite society dedicated to promoting the sharing of philosophies and peace between the Four Nations and protecting the Avatar.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: King usually can't stand being around Myohi, but he does seem to care about her, like when he makes an effort to stand between her and a rampaging Saisho.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Despite also being the Avatar, Amity also has this on account of being a bloodbender.
  • Berserk Button: Bringing up her relationship with Lilith appears to be a sore spot for Odalia.
  • BFS: Sapphire wields a sword so long that the tip reaches the ground.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Amity has these, by virtue of being the Avatar:
  • Crazy-Prepared: Before she died Korra recorded a series of video tapes for the Avatar after her, filled with basic knowledge of the Avatar cycle as well as pointers for each bending style, on the off chance that the future Avatar couldn't contact her due to UnaVaatu disconnecting her from her past lives during Harmonic Convergence.
  • Dead Guy Junior: Korra and Asami had a daughter named Yasuko, the same name as Asami's mother.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: One of Amity's motivations for going along with Luz is her feeling bad that she was forced to travel the world on her own for three years when she was just a child. Luz, however, doesn't see a problem with it, if only because she was roughly the same age as Toph Beifong when she traveled with Aang.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After spending an entire chapter being disrespected by everyone in the Order of the White Lotus, including her own mother, Luz chi-blocks Afiko into submission and calls out Camila and the Order, as a whole, for never believing in her or thanking her for finding the Avatar.
  • Fallen Princess: Both Amity and Luz are this, Amity because her situation completely disconnects her from the rest of the Blight family, Luz because her constant screw-ups caused her to be kicked out of the White Lotus, which has her mom as the leader.
  • Fangirl: Luz is one of everything that has to do with the Avatar. One of the reasons she doesn't feel upset about being forced to travel the world by herself when she was only eleven is because it was the same age Toph Beifong was when she traveled with Aang.
  • Fusion Fic: Between The Owl House and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
  • The Glomp: Luz gives Amity a big hug after realizing that she's the Avatar.
  • Great Offscreen War: According to various dialogue at some point during Korra's tenure as Avatar there was a massive Alien Invasion and the invaders tried to use the spirits as an energy source. While we haven't gotten much detail yet the humans were eventually able to reverse engineer the alien technology implying that this is the reason for the technological leap in the present day.
  • Heroic Lineage: Amity's earthbending teacher is Sapphire Beifong, no doubt the latest bender of the Beifong family.
  • Hybrid Power: Amity exhibits several instances of enhanced strength in chapter three, like when she cracks a floor just by stomping on it and is able to catch Saisho's arm and throw it back at him. Luz theorizes that since Amity is both the Avatar and a witch, she has the combined naturally enhanced strength of both a bender and a witch, allowing for feats of strength above both of them if she can properly train herself.
  • Hypocrite: As Amity points out, for as much as her parents see Amity's wild witch magic as a nuisance, they don't hesitate to make her use it when it's convenient for them.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Luz has to strip down into a tanktop and shorts before going into the Morganna Magi-Star because using it in her regular White Lotus robes is too hot. The only reason she even comments on it is because Amity thought Luz was stripping specifically for her benefit.
  • Lonely Rich Kid:
    • Amity, even more so than in the show on account of living as a recluse for about a decade.
    • Chapter two implies this with Luz, who's still ostracized from her peers for being a weirdo, and a comment from Li implies that being the daughter of the Grand Lotus makes her rich.
  • Meaningful Name: Saisho is the Japanese word for "first", an appropriate name for the Starter Villain of the series.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Myohi, Luz's pet otter snake.
  • Muggle Born of Mages: Luz is a nonbender while her mother is a waterbender.
  • Named by the Adaptation: The cheerleader girl with the skunk stripe from the first episode, along with a couple of background characters, are named Miza, Kikaza, and Iwaza, respectively.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Luz objects to the idea of the White Lotus taking control of Amity's Avatar journey by pointing out how often this trope comes into play when people try and get heavily involved in the Avatar's life, with Luz citing Aang, Korra, and Yun as examples.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • The Alien Invasion that Korra helped fight back at some point in her life.
    • Iroh apparently ended up on the Boiling Isles when he was Walking the Earth after Lu Ten's death and became a Folk Hero called the Tea Seraph.
  • Older Than They Look: Downplayed with Sapphire Beifong. She's described as being as short as a child despite being sixteen, but she's also implied by the narration to have Curves in All the Right Places.
  • Rags to Royalty: Implied with Mako, who's always referred to as "Fire Consort Mako", meaning the unused plotline of him starting a relationship with Fire Lord Izumi's daughter might have happened at some point.
  • Reincarnation: Just like in the show, the Avatar reincarnates into a new life after death, and in this case, Avatar Korra reincarnated into Amity.
  • Rugged Scar: As shown in her video diary, Korra, at some point, got a large scar running down from her left cheek to the right side of her collarbone.
  • Sensory Overload: When Amity first goes to Republic City, she gets a massive headache because the Avatar is able to sense the presence of spirits, something she'd never been around before, so being in the highest concentration of spirits was torturing her.
  • Setting Update: Zig-Zagged with Earth. A few anachronisms aside, Earth appears to be in the early 2000s, which is far ahead of where Earth was in The Legend of Korra, but at the same time, it puts things far behind The Owl House, which is clearly set in The New '10s or The New '20s. For example, Luz has a flip phone instead of a smartphone, and people still use VHS tapes, DVDs, and even laser discs.
  • Ship Tease: Luz and Amity get a lot of it, to the point that Eda, Edric, and Emira repeatedly comment on the "oogies" they give off.
  • Snipe Hunt: Or "chameleon snipe hunt", rather, Luz's mission to find the Avatar was essentially this, with no one actually believing she would succeed and everyone hoping she would just spend some time growing up and leaning to take things more seriously.
  • Spirit Advisor: Korra is one to Amity to a certain extent, although she only occasionally makes comments about whatever Amity's doing, and her biggest contribution was getting Amity to go to Eda's stand and meet her and Luz.
  • Squee: Luz does this when Amity reveals that she's been having dreams of Avatar Korra's life and communicating with her.
  • Thought-Controlled Power: Just like Amon, Amity is a psychic bloodbender.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: It's noted that while Amity has no proper bending training, she has a large amount of ability with all four elements.
    • Not only that, but Amity has enhanced strength that surpasses both benders and witches, but living as a shut-in for a decade has left her incapable of fully controlling it.
  • Walking the Earth: Luz has spent the last three years of her life looking for the Avatar, only to end up finding her on the Boiling Isles through Amity.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Odalia and Alador are very forceful about keeping Amity as removed from society as possible, but that's only because her only being able to use wild witch magic means that she could be locked up in the Conformatorium, at best.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Since witches don't know about bending, Amity's bending was mistaken for wild witch magic and is the whole reason her life ended up going the way it did.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Eda and Amity tell Luz this when she starts going on about how her mission to find the Avatar was just a Snipe Hunt designed to get rid of her and make her grow up.
