"After Shanks saved his life, Luffy swore that he would become a Marine Admiral in order to protect everything dear to him. After training in the Marines, Luffy sets off to prove that he is the greatest Marine since his Grandfather. No devil fruit Luffy in the beginning. Slight OOC Marine!Luffy. A Luffy who wants to be the Hero and share the meat."

To Protect Everything is a One Piece Alternate Universe Fan Fiction by LordDraekai on FanFiction.net that, at 47 chapters as of now, depicts the protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, as a Marine Officer who leads his personal "Straw Hat Marine" Unit (consisting of his canonical crew members in the Straw Hat Pirates) with the goal of protecting those dear to them.

Examples

  • Adaptational Badass: As a result of training from his grandfather, CP9, and Admirals Aokiji and Kizaru, Luffy debuts in the East Blue Saga as a Rokushiki master as well as a user of all three variants of Haki. He then later becomes a Lightning Human as well.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: Luffy gets just as many results using strategy and his authority as a Marine officer as he does by punching people.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In canon, Hancock is madly in love with Luffy but he’s just not interested. Here, Hancock is Luffy's fiance.
  • All-Loving Hero: That title? It’s not hyperbole. Luffy’s goal is to become the kind of Admiral that can keep everyone safe.
  • Badass in Distress: Luffy is bitten by the Kestia instead of Nami
    • While the Strawhats are getting ready to leave Skypiea, Enel manages to blindside and nearly kill him.
  • Badass Normal: As a result of not eating the Gum-Gum Fruit, Luffy fights his foes with Rokushiki and Haki instead. At least until he is fed Enel's Devil Fruit when he is at death's door.
  • Bounty Hunter: Effectively, the Straw Hats of this ‘verse are World Government-sanctioned bounty hunters, in addition to Marines. While they don’t have the same support that other Marine crews have, they also don’t have the same restrictions.
  • Coat Cape: As a high ranking Marine officer, Luffy wears this.
  • Cool Uncle: Aokiji and Kizaru have this relationship with Luffy.
  • Custom Uniform: Aside from the standard Coat Cape in the Marines, the Straw Hat Marine Unit wear whatever they like.
  • Dead Fic: Last update was on August 2019
  • Death by Adaptation: Enel is killed by Garp after mocking a mortally-wounded Luffy. And also because Garp needs his Devil Fruit for said mortally-wounded Luffy to save his life.
  • Enraged by Idiocy: Luffy does not take incompetent subordinates well. Especially when that incompetence results in apprehended pirates making a clean getaway.
  • For Want Of A Nail: As a result of a change of words on Shanks' part, a kid Luffy aspires to become a Marine Admiral after being saved from the Lord of the Coast.
  • Friendly Enemy: Despite being a Marine, Luffy is on good terms with Ace who in turn is supportive of his little adoptive brother's choice of career when they meet at Alabasta.
  • Mildly Military: To his subordinates, Luffy is as casual with them as he is in canon. He has a similar attitude with Smoker (who he nicknamed Smokey) and Hina as well since they were involved in his earlier exploits as a Marine trainee.
  • Military Maverick: Akainu's reaction to Luffy's justification for protecting Nico Robin (suggestible proof that she didn't destroy Marine Battleships) wasn't pleasing to say the least.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Garp is pretty loud, boisterous, and obnoxious normally, so his Tranquil Fury as he beats Enel to death is pretty goddamn scary.
  • Rank Up: Luffy has risen up in the ranks of Marines from Captain to eventually Vice-Admiral.
  • Shock and Awe: Enel, as per usual. Luffy gets this after Enel dies.
  • The Corrupter: Luffy is an inversion, as his presence, cheerful demeanor, and kind-hearted nature seems to be making his fellow Marines much less cruel and jaded than in canon. Even Akainu, to some extent.
  • Too Dumb to Live: After watching Luffy utterly trounce Arlong, Nezumi first tries to bully his way into claiming credit for Arlong’s defeat (as well as all the money he extorted), then, when Luffy places him under arrest, tries to kill Luffy and all the witnesses present. Even if Garp hadn’t showed up, pointing a mere gun at Luffy is still tantamount to suicide.
  • Tranquil Fury: Both Luffy and Garp have their moments. Like grandfather, like grandson.
