Examples:

    open/close all folders

    general — unmarked spoilers!
  • Author Appeal: The author is fascinated by glassblowing and occasionally compares Izuku's eyes to blown glass.
author notes: I loved watching the glassblower when my elementary school visited those renaissance fair places, can you tell?
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Izuku displays his impressive analysis skills in all fics, applied in different ways.
  • Crossover: Between My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen.
  • Crossover Power Acquisition: Izuku becomes a cursed spirit, and Katsuki gains cursed energy from being around him for too long.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Gojo usually looks way too chirper for whatever the current situation is, though he is capable of taking things seriously.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: A large chunk of Katsuki's angst comes from the fact that it's always been hammered into his head that he is the best, and suddenly he is thrown into a world where all his hard work means nothing. Another part of his angst comes from how horrible his behaviour became because of the above belief.
  • Irony: A common point is that while Izuku was a social outcast, "useless" and couldn't look at Katsuki in the eye, now it is Katsuki who finds himself in this position. Katsuki sees it as some kind of Ironic Hell or Laser-Guided Karma.
  • Meaningful Appearance: Izuku's curse form. Inhuman shape aside, he is covered with the scars and injuries that have been inflicted on him from his years of bullying (notably, the majority of them are explosion scars), he looks wet like he has been drenched in rain, the injuries that killed him are constantly bleeding, he cries black tears, and he is covered in the pages of his destroyed "Hero Analysis For The Future No. 13" notebook. The cover of the notebook covers his heart.
  • Naïve Newcomer: Katsuki and Izuku have absolutely no idea what they are getting into when introduced into the world of curses.
  • Running Gag: Everyone's reaction when first meeting Izuku. "A curse with manners. Weird."
  • Shock and Awe: Izuku's power manifests in the form of green lightning. This also doubles as a Mythology Gag, as this is how One For All manifests too in-canon.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Katsuki has absolutely no censor, and curses a lot.
  • Switching P.O.V.: The point of view changes between various characters, even though the narration stays in third person. Each time we get an insight on a different person's thought process. Notably, the narration never switches to Izuku's POV.
  • Telepathy: Izuku can project his thoughts to other people.
  • Trademark Favorite Food:
    • Izuku's favorite sweet is sourpatchwatermelon candy. Gojo always makes sure to get him some.
    • Katsuki cooks and eats food that's too spicy for everyone else to handle. He has a particular fondness for ghost peppers.
  • World's Strongest Man: All Might is this among Quirk users, Sukuna among curses, and Gojo among sorcerers. Gojo also thinks that Izuku has a good chance of becoming a major threat over time.

    My Shovel Tells A Secret
  • Adaptational Badass: Tokoyami and Shigaraki can use Cursed Energy on top of their quirks.
  • After-Action Report: The fic ends with an official report detailing the events of USJ and the full manifestation of Izuku as a cursed spirit.
  • All the Other Reindeer:
    • As per canon, Izuku was ostracised by his peers prior to his suicide.
    • Katsuki is ostracised by everyone except his parents after Izuku dies of suicide because they all know he is the primary cause of that.
  • And Show It to You: Izuku's method of killing strong cursed spirits is to rip their hearts right out of their chest cavities. Katsuki is traumatized for the rest of the series.
  • The Assimilator: The Special grade cursed spirit at USJ started as the vengeful spirits of the Shimura family, but now they turned into a grotesque Body of Bodies that absorbs every human being that touches it into its form.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Izuku as a cursed spirit retains all his intelligence and analysis skills, and now he is also able to apply them. This is best demonstrated when he analyses the Special Grade Cursed Spirit Shigraki brings along with him, creates a plan that would take it out with no casualties.
  • Batman Gambit: Katsuki decides to attack the USJ Cursed Spirit head first, knowing that Izuku would protect him if anything were to happen to him. It works.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Katsuki is the only one to make it into UA from Aldera Middle School and Izuku's ghost is there to mock him in his ear for it.
  • Berserk Button: All Might is this for Izuku, who barely holds back from attacking him when he sees him.
  • Body Horror: The special grade curse the League of Villains bring to USJ is a Body of Bodies made up of the hands and chest cavities of every person absorbed into it. Six of its limbs are attached to the actual hands Shigaraki has on his person, and it's constantly dropping body parts and regenerating them, all while begging to be killed.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Izuku borrows All Might's "I'm here" catchphrase during his Declaration of Protection.
  • Commonality Connection: Katsuki and Tokoyami become friends - or are at least on friendly terms - over both being able to see Cursed Spirits.
  • Cruel Mercy: Izuku tells Katsuki that he wants him to live with the consequences of his actions instead of dying.
  • Death-Activated Superpower: Izuku "comes back" as a Special grade vengeful cursed spirit. This puts him a notch above everything else that Katsuki encounters, and other cursed spirits stay well away from him before he's even fully manifested.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • Izuku dies of suicide offscreen after his encounter with All Might.
    • Izuku kills Shigaraki at USJ.
  • Declaration of Protection: Izuku declares that he'll protect Katsuki until he becomes a hero.
  • Driven to Suicide: Izuku, after All Might tells him he can't be a hero. It was the straw that broke the camel's back.
  • Due to the Dead: Katsuki closes the eyes of the dead Jujutsu sorcerer he found in the alley.
  • Eating the Enemy: Tokoyami deals with curses by having Dark Shadow eat them.
  • Exposition Cut: Tokoyami explains to Katsuki the basics about the Jujutsu sorcerers and Cursed Spirits offscreen.
  • Haunting the Guilty: Izuku has taken to haunting Katsuki prior to his full manifestation, telling him stuff like mocking him over his new status as a social outcast. Katsuki can't see him, but he is fully aware of his presence, and it completely wears him down over time.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Katsuki is forced to fight the cursed spirits that attack him with a mechanical pen that Izuku turned into a cursed weapon. He's very frustrated about it.
  • Karma Houdini: The police drop the murder charges against Katsuki for inciting suicide because it would be a shame to bar someone with a quirk like his from heroics.
  • My Greatest Failure: It's implied that All Might views Izuku's suicide as this, hence why he founded an anti-quirkless discrimination and bullying organization.
  • Never Speak Ill of the Dead: It's only after Izuku dies that people start talking about Izuku in positive terms, as on how he was "such a kind boy" and how he "didn't deserve all this." Katsuki is well aware they're all Hypocrites, himself included.
  • No-Sell: Quirks and physical combat just don't work on curses. Katsuki has to rely on Izuku's protection and later the mechanical pen that Izuku turned into a Cursed Weapon for him.
  • Percussive Therapy: Katsuki admits that after months of only being able to fend off cursed spirits with a pen, letting loose against the robots at the entrance exam is cathartic.
  • The Scottish Trope: Absolutely nobody refers to Izuku by name after his suicide, because acknowledging it would "make it real". Katsuki refers to Izuku as "the Presence" prior to his manifestation. He finally calls out to him when Izuku saves him at the USJ.
  • Shock and Awe: Izuku's Cursed Energy manifests as lightning, and he perpetually smells of ozone. It's implied that's because it was starting to rain when he died. Doubles as a Mythology Gag, as this is how One For All manifests for him in canon.
  • Spotting the Thread: All Might founding a pro-quirkless foundation called the Midoriya Project, his oddly personal tone in his announcement speech, and Izuku's rage whenever he sees the man, make Katsuki realize that All Might is somehow connected to Izuku's suicide. However, he chooses not to bring it up because he doesn't want to set off Izuku.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Katsuki takes the "Hero Analysis for the Future, Numer 13" notebook from Izuku's room when he and his mom visit Inko. Later, Izuku gives him his favourite mechanical pencil after he turned it into a cursed weapon.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Izuku has two forms: his human appearance from right after he died (basically him but with the injuries from his suicide), and his full-blown Cursed Spirit appearance (a green and incredibly skinny humanoid demon with long hair, hollow eyesockets, a skull-like face with fangs, claws, and covered with pages from his destroyed notebook).
  • The Worf Effect: Katsuki finds the corpse of a Jujutsu sorcerer, and the cursed spirit that ate him. Izuku makes a total joke out of it.

    Hollow Ripples
  • Adaptational Personality Change: A minor one. In canon, Aizawa never reads his students' files because he wants to be unbiased, but here he does, therefore he's aware of the criminal charges against Katsuki. His initial plan was to expel him at the slightest hint of misconduct; at least, that was his plan until he actually met him.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: Kenjaku thinks that All For One's a joke, and watching him gather quirks for 200 years is "fun".
  • Arbitrary Scepticism: Katsuki thinks Gojo is lying when he says he's Quirkless due to how powerful he is but Gojo immediately calls him out on it.
Gojo: Manifestations of human emotion are running around and you think me not having a quirk is so unbelievable?
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Izuku gets a few extra points in this fic because Aizawa noticed that he was able to effectively merge Miruko and Edgeshot's fighting styles when facing the Abomination.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Aizawa says that even though Izuku is a curse, he has the heart of a human and made sure that everyone got out of USJ uninjured.
  • The Cavalry Arrives Late: All Might did make it to the USJ at the same time as canon, but he arrived only to see Izuku destroy the Special grade curse and then deliver his speech to Katsuki. Most people didn't even notice his arrival.
  • Characterization Marches On: Discussed by Aizawa, as Katsuki has become The Quiet One and very withdrawn, being a scathing contrast to how all his school reports described him.
  • Commonality Connection: Gojo tries to invoke this by pointing out that both he and Aizawa are high-school teachers teaching first grade. They don't strike up a friendship, but Aizawa already decided to humour the man.
  • Declaration of Protection: An indirect example. Aizawa orders Gojo to find a way to save Izuku from execution even if it takes a miracle. Gojo replies that miracles are what he does.
  • Double Take: Aizawa's reaction when he first met Katsuki in person, as his attitude was so different from what the school files described that Aizawa didn't recognize him.
  • Empathic Environment: Thanks to his Shock and Awe powers, Izuku can affect the weather, as evidenced by him starting a thunderstorm in rage during All Might's speech on the new pro-quirkless foundation he founded after Izuku's suicide.
  • Exposition Cut: Gojo's explanation to Aizawa about what curses are is mostly glossed over.
  • Exposition Already Covered: Gojo goes to explain to Katsuki everything about curses, but Katsuki interrupts him saying that he already knows what they're called and what Jujutsu sorcerers are.
  • Fantastic Ableism: Katsuki is enraged to find out that most Jujutsu sorcerers, including Gojo who radiates power, are quirkless.
  • The Force Is Strong with This One: After USJ, Aizawa becomes able to sense cursed energy from other people, which is how he draws the connection between the Abomination, Izuku, and Gojo.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: Izuku stays in his full curse form because Katsuki feels uncomfortable looking at his corpse form.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Aizawa knew that he would die if he tried to face the Abomination, but he decided to do so anyway because "nobody dies on his watch". Fortunately, Katsuki and Izuku rescued him.
  • Insult Backfire: Katsuki calls Gojo a troll doll. Gojo thinks it's hilarious.
  • The Masquerade: Gojo is supposed to help maintain it by lying to the UA students that what they saw was the result of a quirk. Except that he tells Aizawa everything because he knows the man is not an idiot. They make everyone else sign NDAs though.
  • Mutually Exclusive Magic: Gojo explains that it is near impossible for somebody with Cursed Energy to also have a quirk, and that 95% of Jujutsu Sorcerors are quirkless, himself included. Katsuki only has cursed energy because of Izuku, and Tokoyami is the exception of exceptions (according to the statistics provided by Gojo, the likelihood of someone having a quirk compatible with Cursed Energy is 0.05%).
  • Not the Fall That Kills You…: According to the police report, Izuku died because he broke his neck on something on the way down, leaving him incapable of breathing, eventually killing him from suffocation.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: Gojo has every intention to make Katsuki and Izuku attend the Jujutsu Technical College, and declares as much to Aizawa. He even lampshades it when he later "asks" Katsuki and Izuku if they want to come, as his internal monologue talks about giving them "the illusion of choice".
  • Precision F-Strike: Aizawa after his encounter with Gojo, complete with some hysterical laughter.
    "What a fucking mess."
  • Refusal of the Call: Tokoyami was offered a place at the Jujutsu Technical College at some point in the past, but he refused to attend. Gojo thinks it's a shame but doesn't seek him out either.
  • Slasher Smile: Gojo's reaction to Aizawa's order to save Izuku. Aizawa thinks to himself that he's seen tamer expressions on crazed villains.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Aizawa calls the USJ Special grade curse a "lovecraft abomination".
    • Suguru used to call curses "messed up Digimon".

The Curse Is Okay, But The New Guy Is On Thin Ice
  • Adaptational Karma: Izuku's suicide launched a large-scale investigation into how he was treated called the Midoriya Project, which led to several teachers being forced to resign.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Gojo ruffles Izuku's hair when he congratulates him on passing the exam. Izuku reacts like he's never been at the receiving end of this before (which quite likely he hasn't).
  • All for Nothing: Katsuki is extremely shaken when he realizes that Quirks are completely meaningless in the world of Jujutsu because he put an incredible amount of effort into practicing his Quirk and now that's gone to waste.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Typical Izuku. He figures out how Principal Yaga's cursed technique works, and he also figures out that Fushiguro can store things in his shadow - an ability that Fushiguro himself didn't know he had.
  • Badass Normal: Maki has neither cursed energy nor a quirk, but has no difficulties kicking everyone's ass.
  • Blindfolded Vision: Izuku is at first under the impression that Gojo can't see under his blindfold.
  • Clothing-Concealed Injury: Izuku gets a custom hoodie in his Jujutsu Tech uniform to hide his fatal wounds.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: Discussed; Katsuki tells Izuku that if he never came back as a cursed spirit then Katsuki would not be targeted by them. Izuku counters that he would still be vulnerable to the one in the alley from the first fic.
  • Driven to Suicide: The months of isolation, perpetual cursed energy, crippling guilt, destroyed self-esteem, and fear, lead Katsuki to grab Izuku's arm and try to choke himself just to end it all. Fortunately he doesn't succeed.
  • Famed In-Story: Due to the Midoriya Project, Izuku is quickly recognizable by everyone.
  • Fanboy: Izuku adds a hood to his Jujutsu Tech uniform that looks like a mix of his All Might-inspired hero costume and Gang Orca merchandise.
  • First-Name Basis: Katsuki is aggravated by Gojo calling him by his first name.
  • Flowery Insults: Katsuki's specialty, if calling Gojo "half-baked Pillsbury doughboy" is any indication. Maki sees it as a positive quality.
  • Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: Downplayed. Principal Yaga says that the reason he has his dolls attack the potential students while questioning them is that people are more honest when under pressure.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Katsuki thinks that Izuku must be delusional to want to help someone as rotten and incapable of empathy as him.
  • Hidden Depths: Principal Yaga is surprised that Katsuki studied the practices of the Tokyo and Kyoto Jujutsu schools beforehand.
  • Hidden Purpose Test: The reason Gojo and Principal Yaga have Izuku take the Jujutsu Tech entrance exam (well, a version of it), is to see if Izuku will protect anyone other than Katsuki. Izuku moves to protect Gojo, despite knowing he's untouchable because his automatic instinct is to protect everyone, thus passing the test with flying colours.
  • It's All About Me: While Katsuki feels incredibly guilty and fearful of his current situation, a lot of his thought process is still self-centered (though he catches and berates himself on it occasionally).
" He just had to kill himself and make it Katsuki's problem."
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Discussed. Katsuki wonders if Izuku is haunting him for the purpose of making him experience the same humiliation, helplessness, and isolation he felt when he was alive.
  • Madness Mantra: For Izuku, "Katsuki is going to be a great hero." When Katsuki presses him to explain why, Izuku loses most semblance of humanity he has and just repeats it.
  • Manchild: Principal Yaga still thinks of Gojo as a boy because he doubts he will ever mature.
  • Mythology Gag: When Izuku explains to Principal Yaga why he protected Gojo during the exam even though Gojo needs no protecting, he explains that "he just moved" and that "not all men are created equal". These are the same notions that he expresses at the very beginning of the manga, but he never says these lines in this continuity prior to this.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: Inverted and Lampshaded. Katsuki admits that he's used to being the best there is, but now he's in an environment where his quirk means nothing starting at the very bottom.
  • No-Sell: Quirks don't work on the Cursed Corpses either, even if they're just dolls. Katsuki finds this out the hard way.
  • Papa Wolf: Many of Gojo's colleagues notice his tendency to adopt strays. And be strays they mean kids that would otherwise be executed.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Supernatural Powers!: Technically, everyone has supernatural powers, but Gojo is so absurdly powerful that no authority dares to go after him. This is how he gets away with recruiting a Special grade curse as a student.
  • There Are No Therapists: Shoko keeps petitioning for Jujutsu Tech to hire one, but it never goes through.
  • Trauma Button: Feeling helpless reminds Katsuki of the time the Sludge Villain almost suffocated him and the dead Jujutsu sorcerer he found in the alley. He deals with it by forcefully shoving the memories back into his head because he thinks there's no point reliving it.
  • Ugly Cute: In-Universe, Principal Yaga describes his handmade plush toys as "too ugly to be considered pretty, but just ugly enough to be oddly cute". His ex-wife loved them and said they have "character".
  • You Remind Me of X: Gojo frequently compares Izuku and Katsuki to Rika and Yuuta as they are another case of an ordinary person of being haunted by the cursed spirit of someone they love. He also compares Katsuki to Fushiguro Toji because they have the same stubborn glint in their eye.

Don't Bow Your Head For Me (Don't Atone For My Sins)
  • All Therapists Are Muggles: Katsuki's reasoning for why he never told his parents that he was seeing curses is that he would probably end up in a mental ward if he told them.
  • Boisterous Weakling: Gojo reminds Katsuki that for all his threats he is the weakling here and he should save the big talk for when he can back it up.
  • Brutal Honesty: One of the things that Katsuki admires about his dad is that he does not mince his words.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This fic focuses on Katsuki's family and their reaction to all the previous events.
  • Dreaming of Times Gone By: The fic ends with Katsuki dreaming of him and Izuku playing together as kids, and he wakes up crying.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • For all their neglect, the old teachers at Aldera Middle School didn't tolerate bullying taking place right in front of them, so Izuku used to use their presence as a deterrent.
    • Katsuki loathes having other people apologize for his wrongdoings, as they shouldn't take responsibility for his actions.
    • Katsuki says that he's an asshole but not a thief and returns Izuku's Number 13 notebook, along with gifting him a new notebook and a pen.
  • Exposition Already Covered: A manager connected with Jujutsu Tech already gave Katsuki's parents the basic exposition regarding what happened to Izuku and Katsuki the last ten months off-screen. That spares Katsuki from having to explain to them himself.
  • First-Name Basis: Maki insists that everyone calls her by her first name, and she enforces it by hitting harder during spars. Katsuki correctly attributes this to family issues and complies.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Izuku chooses not to tell his mom anything or reveal himself to her because that could mentally destroy her; especially since he looks exactly like the moment he died, and she probably had to see him in the coroner's office to identify the body.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: Discussed. Katsuki acknowledges that many people do good things for selfish reasons; for example, Pro Heroes who are Only in It for the Money.
  • The Reveal: Gojo reveals to everyone that there's a bounty on Katsuki's head, dead or alive. Katsuki is enraged that he was Locked Out of the Loop.
  • Shared Family Quirks: Katsuki and his mother Mitsuki are both the epitome of Sir Swears-a-Lot and are Hot-Blooded to match.

    Learning Curves
  • Actually Pretty Funny: Katsuki is usually angered by everything Izuku does, but when Izuku force-feeds Sukuna a ghost pepper, Katsuki can barely hold in his laughter.
  • Affectionate Nickname:
    • Gojo calls Izuku "Izu-chan".
    • Katsuki hates that Izuku still calls him "Kacchan" because he takes it to mean that Izuku, despite everything, still finds something worth admiring in him.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Probably the most badass example yet. Izuku manages to figure out how to hold back Sukuna without harming Yuuji, by taking advantage of Yuuji's human biology to numb Sukuna's nerves, knowing that Sukuna will have to take a few extra seconds to use his reverse curse technique to heal them because they require great focus, which is time Izuku can take advantage of as he is a literal Lightning Bruiser. Izuku basically subdues him via Death by a Thousand Cuts. The spar ends at a draw after the one minute is up, but it's what cements Izuku's badass credentials.
  • Batman Gambit: Izuku uses his previous experience with bullies to play into Sukuna's superiority complex and gauge how accurate the information of "The Golden Age of Jujutsu" about him is, so he can formulate a strategy to beat him. It works.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Izuku. In Katsuki's words, "don't go underestimating him 'cause he chooses to be nice."
  • Blatant Lies:
    • Fushiguro claims that he only summons his Shikigami for as long as needed. Katsuki points to where Izuku is petting them.
    • Gojo asks Katsuki if he's okay after the Izuku vs Sukuna spar. Katsuki says he's fine but he knows he's not convincing anyone.
  • Blessed with Suck: Katsuki's Quirk is this at times. Gojo doesn't allow him to use it directly in combat, and the various wooden weapons absorb his sweat which is explosive, so he cannot hold on to anything for long. Gojo has to look for an all-metal weapon to deal with that.
  • Book Dumb: Yuuji has a hard time with tests because all the info gets tangled in his head, and he has a far easier time getting through manga volumes than books of any kind (probably because manga has images).
  • Category Traitor: Sukuna declares Izuku to be an embarassment to all curses.
  • Can't Catch Up: Katsuki realizes that he is far, far behind Izuku in terms of mastering his cursed energy, which triggers his Inferiority Superiority Complex.
  • Chain Pain: Gojo chooses to give Katsuki a kusari as a weapon because it won't absorb his sweat and his knowledge of aerodynamics will prove very useful in mastering it.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Katsuki finds a book about the gold age of Jujutsu that has a fifth of its length dedicated to Sukuna. Sukuna and Yuuji appear in the next scene.
  • Cut His Heart Out with a Spoon: Kugisaki's not-so-pleasant response to being woken up early by Gojo.
Kugisaki: You have three seconds to shut the hell up, or I'm taking this [hammer] and hitting you where it hurts until only dogs can hear you.
  • Desperately Craves Affection: Izuku is touch-starved and startles whenever someone touches him. Gojo usually drops Limitless when around him even though he gets shocked when he touches Izuku because he knows that giving Izuku affection is more important.
  • Detention Episode: The first chapter of the fic has Gojo sending Katsuki and Fushiguro to reorganize the library after the two almost get into a fight. It becomes important later on because Katsuki finds a book on Ryoumen Sukuna, which proves very useful down the line.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: The go-to incident referenced whenever anyone talks about Sukuna is the time he ate a toddler alive for bumping into him.
  • Famed In-Story: Katsuki's father Masaru is a well-known fashion designer, so Kugisaki immediately recognizes the surname and Katsuki's relation to him.
  • For the Evulz: To Katsuki's understanding, Sukuna had no real end goal and simply did whatever he pleased, slaughtering anyone who annoyed him along the way.
  • Genius Bruiser: According to Gojo, Katsuki appears to be a brute-force fighter, but he has a very good grasp of physics and aerodynamics to be able to utilize his quirk. Gojo picks a kusari for him based on this knowledge.
  • Gilligan Cut: Katsuki's first impression of Sukuna, which was finding a book that had one-fifth of its length dedicated to him, is to assume he is a character akin to All Might. Well, one Smash Cut later he finds out that he is right about the World's Strongest Man aspect, but definitely not about the attitude.
  • Good Parents: Gojo has a very good opinion of Katsuki's parents, as he sees that they are very caring of Katsuki and Mitsuki would definitely pick a fight with Gojo if he were to wrong her son.
  • Harmless Villain: Sukuna can do absolutely nothing but talk crap in his current state, so Yuuji declared that he'll only take him seriously when he stops sounding like an Obnoxious Entitled Housewife.
  • Hate at First Sight: Kugisaki and Katsuki decide that they loathe each other the second they meet.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: Izuku really wants to pet Fushiguro's dog Shikigamis. And once he gets the chance they never leave him alone ever again. Izuku admits that he always wanted a dog, but the apartment building he lives at doesn't allow pets and his mom is allergic.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Even though Izuku and Katsuki are now students, they are left out from the Cursed Womb mission, which goes exactly as in canon - as in, Yuuji dies and Fushiguro's white dog dies.
  • Loophole Abuse: Principal Yaga bans Gojo from having Izuku and Sukuna spar on school grounds, so Gojo decides to have them do it off school grounds - even though Yaga meant to ban him from doing it at all.
  • Magically-Binding Contract: Gojo figures out and tells everyone that Yuji and Sukuna have a binding vow. Using that as a prompt, he launches a lecture about binding vows that are imposed both between several people and on one's self.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Izuku has no issue losing a finger or a limb because he can regenerate no problem.
  • My Greatest Failure: Gojo believes Geto's breakdown to be this and is resolved to never let any of his students reach their breaking point.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Izuku decides to name Fushiguro's dogs. He decides to name White "Keshi" (meaning Eraser) and Yogore (meaning Smudge). However, he only gets to tell Fushiguro after Keshi dies in the Cursed Womb, so he names the remaining dog "Yoshi", combining the kanji from the two names.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Gojo compares Katsuki with himself, in how they both had to excessively study and master a particular field of physics (quantum theory for Gojo and aerodynamics for Katsuki) in order to fully master their abilities.
  • Odd Friendship: Of all the people at school, Katsuki best gets along with Toge. A.k.a. the guy who speaks in onigiri ingredients. Gojo thinks that maybe that's the exact reason they get along.
  • Only Sane Man: Katsuki and Principal Yaga are the only ones who protest having Izuku and Sukuna spar. Not even Fushiguro protests, to Katsuki's immense disappointment.
  • Power Misidentification: Everybody prior to his enrollment in Jujutsu Tech assumed that Yuuji has a Super-Strength Quirk, even though he has the extra toe joint that marks the quirkless. Katsuki thinks that Yuuji is under a heavenly restriction.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Izuku force feeds Sukuna a ghost pepper. And Sukuna can't do shit about it because of Yuji.
  • Reverse Psychology: Gojo knows that if he invites Katsuki to come with him Katsuki will refuse just to be contrary, so he goes without telling him and Katsuki gets pissed that Gojo left him without a word and follows.
  • Safety in Indifference: Fushiguro forces himself to think of his divine dogs as just Shikigami and not get attached because he could lose them at any moment.
  • Secret-Keeper: Izuku senses Yuuji's cursed energy lingering on Gojo, even though he is supposed to be dead. This leads to Gojo letting Izuku reunite with Yuuji early and letting him in on the plan to have Yuuji train without the Elders knowing about it.
  • The Swear Jar: Gojo considers getting one to deal with Katsuki.
  • Tsundere: How Izuku decides to interpret Katsuki's attitude.
Yuuji: [The food] is really good.
    Katsuki: Shut up and eat.
    Izuku: He means thank you.
  • Unaffected by Spice: Katsuki and Izuku have no issue with ghost peppers in curry. Sukuna on the other hand most certainly does.

    Distorted Mirror
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: Because of his "villainous" quirk, Junpei's relationship with his mother is implied to be far worse. In his words, after he awakened his quirk, "she never looked at him the same way again". This is in contrast to canon where she is very supportive of all his decisions.
  • Batman Gambit: Gojo tries to make Nanami teach Yuji and Izuku by telling him he doesn't have the time to do it himself. When that doesn't work, he decides to "bring out the big guns" and says that he trusts Nanami to keep them safe. Nanami bends.
  • Berserk Button: Being called "weak" is Jogo's.
  • Big Eater: Yuji and Izuku easily finish five pizzas between them.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: Izuku can eat other curses to grow more powerful, and he remembers doing that a lot when he first turned into a cursed spirit. Gojo says this explains how he was able to reach Grade 2 quickly, but doesn't explain how he reached Special Grade. Izuku admits that his memories from back then are too fuzzy, so the only explanation is that he ate something that was special grade but can't remember what (or actually doing it).
  • Cast from Calories: Limitless and Six Eyes take a lot of Gojo's energy, so raw sugar is a very good way to replenish his resources. He admits he's lucky his techniques only burn through calories and not nutrients.
  • Creepy Awesome: In-Universe, Yuuji thinks that Izuku looking like a horror movie monster is really cool.
  • Enemy Scan: Izuku has the ability to "scan" enemies by swallowing a piece of them, which lets him analyze their cursed energy in detail and gives him information he otherwise should not have access to. He can also track down their cursed energy within an unspecified radius after doing so.
  • Expressive Accessory: The ears in Izuku's hoodie somehow move as if they're actual bunny ears. Fushiguro wonders if that has something to do with him being a curse.
  • Fuzz Therapy: Yoshi - the black divine dog - has basically turned into a therapy animal. Fushiguro lets him out for as long as possible and he with Izuku spend that entire time petting him to stay grounded. Yoshi LOVES the attention.
  • Flashback Nightmare: Yuuji suffers from these.
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: Izuku stops Katsuki from telling everyone that Yuuji is alive by calling him by his full name.
  • Go Mad from the Isolation: Discussed. Gojo recalls being locked alone in a room for two months by his family when he was a kid so he would learn how to control his power before going around other people, and how he slowly started losing his grip on time because of it. He's glad that Yuji has Izuku to talk to so he doesn't get lonely like that.
  • Has a Type: Todou believes that someone's type in women - or men - tells a lot about their personality, which is why that's the first thing he asks when he meets someone new. Nobody tries to argue his point, but Izuku tells him that putting someone on the spot like that is very rude.
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: Junpei not only thinks that "not all men are born equal", but that some people are not "born as men" at all and are actually monsters in human skin.
  • Imagination-Based Superpower: Gojo theorizes that in contrast to popular belief, Domain Expansions aren't technique-based but imagination-based, and mentally cites the third year Hakari as an example.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Even though Izuku's suicide began an anti-bullying campaign, its sole focus on the quirkless means that kids with "villainous" quirks are even more targeted. Therefore Junpei, whose quirk poisons people, still suffers from a lot of bullying.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Mai tries to cover up hers by using Todou as a shield and playing up an Alpha Bitch personality. When it becomes obvious that the Tokyo students won't take her crap and that she can't really compete with Izuku even with Todou backing her up, she leaves with her tail between her legs.
  • Internal Reformist: Gojo wants to reshape Jujutsu Society from the inside by educating the next generation.
  • Internal Reveal: Katsuki admits to Gojo that he found a dead Jujutsu student before going to UA. Gojo remembers the case because they found the student with his eyes closed.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Discussed. Gojo tells Katsuki that Gojo is solely responsible for keeping Yuji being alive a secret so that Katsuki doesn't take it out on Izuku.
  • Mundane Utility:
    • Izuku uses his Super-Speed to take notes faster. The pencil starts smoking.
    • Gojo uses Limitless to avoid cavities from all the sugar he eats.
  • Nested Mouths: Discussed. When Izuku admits that his cursed form looks like a xenomorph, Yuuji asks him if he has a nested mouth and that he really should check. Izuku protests that he would have noticed if that was the case.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Gojo thinks to himself that he and Katsuki are similar in that they were both treated as special and unique by everyone around them just for how they were born.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Katsuki figures out that Yuji is alive when the Kyoto students bring up his death and Izuku doesn't freak out and shift.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Geto (aka Kenjaku) admits that he has never heard of a cursed spirit that wants to protect humans like Izuku does, and the only possible solution he can think of dealing with him is to exorcise him.
  • Percussive Therapy: After finding out that Yuuji is alive, Katsuki works off his anger by blowing up the training field with his quirk and kusari for the rest of the day.
  • Poisonous Person: Junpei constantly secretes poison from his hands, and he cannot control how potent it is.
  • Power Misidentification: Turns out it isn't Junpei's Quirk that makes him venomous. His Quirk is simply to make people itchy for a bit when he touches them. The poison part comes from his Cursed Energy and specifically his Moon Dregs, which takes the form of a jellyfish. Junpei is conflicted on how to feel about this, as part of him sees the isolation he suffered as All for Nothing.
  • Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: Gojo says this about himself.
  • Secret-Keeper:
    • Katsuki figures out that Yuuji is alive and that Gojo and Izuku know about it, and he is NOT happy. He actually tries to reveal the secret at one point but is cut off.
    • Gojo decides that keeping the binding vow Yuji made with Sukuna after he died a secret from as many people as possible is best for everyone.
  • Shout-Out: Yuuji asks Izuku if he's like Kirby. Then he compares him to the Terminator or the predator from Alien vs. Predator. Izuku thinks he looks more like a xenomorph, which Gojo agrees with.
  • Tempting Fate: Fushiguro thinks that Yuuji's "live a long life" plea is this because of the sorcerer mortality rates.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Katsuki starts caring more for his classmates, as he now cooks for everyone, accommodates their preferences, and generally talks to the others more - even if he's aggressive about it.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Jogo thinks that all humans are weak. He includes Gojo in that number. The fic doesn't even bother showing Gojo kicking Jogo's ass.
  • The Unreveal:
    • Izuku has very fuzzy memories of his early days as a curse, so not even he knows for sure how he became a special grade beyond "I recall eating a lot of curses".
    • Katsuki tries to reveal that Yuuji is alive to Fushiguro and Kugisaki but Izuku cuts him off.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: The teenager at the register doesn't even notice Gojo teleporting in the pizza place.
  • Would Hit a Girl: In Fushiguro's words, Katsuki's not the type of person to be hung up about hitting people in general, much less girls.
