Fanfic / Tinker of Fiction

Go To

Welcome to Tinker of Fiction, my newest quest in the Worm Fandom. The premise of this quest is that you are an insert tinker with the ability to replicate items and powers that appear in fiction. "That sounds really powerful," I hear you say "What with all the meta-knowledge and possibly overpowered items." Of course, I reply, that's why you're going to be 12 and in your last year of middle school. Prepare for the Vista treatment if any adult catches on that you're a cape. You can't work on projects from different fictional universes at the same time because cape powers have arbitrary limitations. Also, you live with Taylor. Why? Because I said so. Just remember Big Brother Bug Sister is watching you.

Tinker of Fiction is a Worm SI quest. The main character has the ability to build devices based on devices from various works of fiction.

Tinker of Fiction provides examples of:

  • Airborne Aircraft Carrier: Horizon creates a Mothership to act as a secondary base for the Protectorate.
  • Break the Haughty: Armsmaster wanted to be the one to take down Leviathan. He was doing well for himself, until he slips on a piece of debris, which leads to him getting knocked out and losing three limbs. Afterwards, he realizes that it is wrong of him to be jealous of Horizon or to try and be a Glory Hound.
  • Character Development: Armsmaster is becoming more empathic as a person, as well as more accepting of his limitations.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Downplayed. 2B quickly dispatches Siberian and Mannequin, decapitates Jack Slash (though he will most likely be brought back by Bonesaw) and captures Burnscar. However, she isn't able to finish the job and the others get away, except for Crawler, who is let loose as a distraction.
  • Death by Adaptation: Some characters die sooner than in canon or die when they survive until the end of canon.
    • Oni Lee dies after the breakout of Bakuda thanks to the poisonous insects of Arachne.
    • Krieg is killed by the Slaughterhouse Nine.
  • Death Is Cheap: Averted. Although Tony can use the Caduceus Staff to revive the dead, it comes with a few requirements. Nonetheless, it helps lower the casualties when Leviathan attacks Brockton Bay.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Jack Slash is unable to predict 2B, which leads to the deaths of Siberian and Mannequin, Burnscar being captured, his own decapitation, and Crawler being incapacitated.
  • Fix Fic: The author admits this quest will be like this somewhat.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Thanks to Tony's interference, Taylor never joins the Undersiders, and eventually becomes a Ward.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Vista is jealous that Horizon is hanging out with a female independent hero, until she learns that the independent is Horizon's cousin.
  • Groin Attack: When Horizon reveals his latest specialization (NieR: Automata), which he refers to as Sexy Combat Androids in Revealing Outfits, Vista punches Clockblocker in the groin as he is about to laugh out loud.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Some things still happen as in canon.
    • The takedown of Lung and Bakuda is the same as in canon. Horizon suspects this is because Coil interfered.
    • Browbeat still died in Leviathan's attack.
  • Joke and Receive: In a canon omake, Miss Militia pauses when describing Horizon's current specialization, causing Assault to quip that it was sexy combat robots due to 2B's appearance. Even he is surprised when Miss Militia confirms this.
  • Not Quite Dead: After Crawler is bombarded by a beam attack from Horizon's floating base, he is rendered into a ball of biomass that doesn't even have a brain anymore.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Thanks to all the changes Horizon influenced, the PRT is able to apprehend Coil. Horizon learns of it via PHO while on vacation.
  • Off with His Head!: Jack Slash gets decapitated by 2B.
  • Robot Girl: Horizon makes a few from NieR: Automata, specifically 2B, Popola, and Devola. Gender-Inverted with 9S.
  • Sour Supporter: 9S is this at first, as he isn't exactly thrilled to be thrust into another conflict between humanity and invaders. This trait goes away after he interacts more with Tony and the other androids.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Several characters survive events that killed them in canon.
    • Aegis, Gallant, and the New Wave and Protectorate ENE members that died during Leviathan's attack survive instead.
  • There Are No Therapists: Averted. The Wards have a therapist they can visit if they want to. Horizon visits after the Slaughterhouse 9 attack.
