Time To Plan is a My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fanfiction written by Jonathon "KnightMysterio" Spires, the author behind Waking Nightmares.

Tech Leader, a brilliant but sadly racist Earth Pony, has made a mistake and managed to anger every single hero in Equestria. So she heads to her lab to escape into the future. One problem — several of the ponies who are angry with her are immortal. Which means they can wait...

Time To Plan contains the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Badass: Tech Leader discovers, to her increasing dismay and fear, that several canon characters have become much more powerful after ten billion years passed in her absence.
    • Future Fluttershy became a draconequus named Flutterbold, and is much more confident and bolder compared to her past self. After marrying Future Discord, she wasn't afraid to passionately kiss him in public, for starters.
    • Future Rarity became the elder dragoness Rariamat, and was able to stop Tech Leader's escape with a well-timed fireball. Future Spike likewise became the elder dragon Spykoran, though in his case he grew over time as opposed to Rarity who transformed herself into a dragon.
    • Future Shining Armor and Future Cadence fused together to become the alicorn Love, who embodies Love. It's noted that as Love, they radiate raw power far different from the mundane alicorns that now populate Future Equestria.
    • Future Applejack became JackAI, a Virtual Ghost who can possess any machine body at her disposal. She just chose to go as a Humongous Mecha version of herself at Magic Incarnate's behest.
    • Future Celestia and Future Luna were implied to have ascended and transformed into bonafide goddess-queens, though Magic Incarnate notes the nature of their ascension turned them into benevolent Eldritch Abominations, forcing them to isolate themselves as they couldn't live or intermingle with mortals for very long.
    • Future Rainbow Dash became a Windigo named Rainbow Hurricane, and has established herself as queen of the Windigos. She used a chill wind to freeze Tech Leader's shoulder cannons after the latter starts firing in the Everfree Forest.
    • Future Starlight Glimmer, Future Twilight Sparkle, Future Sunset Shimmer, and Future Trixie Lulamoon were so magically powerful that their minds and souls fused as one, forming the entity Magic Incarnate, the living representation of the planet's life-force.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Because they became immortal to meet Tech Leader ten billion years later, some canon characters changed their names to different ones to reflect this change.
    • Rainbow Dash, after becoming a Windigo Queen, goes by the name "Rainbow Hurricane" here.
    • Fluttershy became a Draconequus and more self-confident, so she renamed herself "Flutterbold" here. She even lampshades that her old name "flew south for the winter a long time ago".
    • Shining Armor and Princess Cadence fused themselves to become a single Alicorn, and now they go by "Love".
    • Rarity changed herself into a Dragon to pursue a romance with Spike, and thus renamed herself "Rariamat".
    • Spike grew old enough to become an Elder Dragon, and thus renamed himself "Spykoran".
    • Sunset Shimmer, Trixie Lulamoon, Starlight Glimmer, and Twilight Sparkle all go by the name "Magic" here. This is because the four of them are so magically powerful that they became a Hive Mind gestalt operating through four bodies.
  • Adaptation Species Change: Some canon characters sought immortality by changing themselves into different species so they would be there to greet Tech Leader once she arrives in their time ten billions years.
    • Rainbow Dash was a Pegasus, but became a Windigo Queen here. This came with downsides, as her need to feed on The Power of Hate forced her to live in the Everfree Forest, due to Equestria having become a peaceful utopia.
    • Fluttershy was a Pegasus, but became a Draconequus here. Likely, Discord was involved.
    • Rarity was a Unicorn, but became a Dragon here. This is so she could pursue a romance with Spike without the potential hangups that would come with an Interspecies Romance.
    • King Sombra was a Unicorn in canon (Umbrum in the IDW comics). Here, he became an Alicorn following his Heel–Face Turn.
    • Sunset Shimmer, Trixie Lulamoon, and Starlight Glimmer are Unicorns in canon. Here, they became Alicorns, though as part of a four-mare Hive Mind gestalt called "Magic", which included Twilight Sparkle.
  • Alliterative Name: Tech Leader's original name, Winky Whispers. She has since changed it to, in Rainbow Dash's words, "something less humiliating".
  • Ambiguous Gender: Love is a mix-gendered fusion, with one half of their body being Shining Armor and the other half being Princess Cadence. No one designates them with specific gender labels, only referring to them by name.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: Love, an immortal alicorn composed of two ponies who are a Happily Married couple (Future Shining Armor and Future Cadence).
  • Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: Celestia and Luna become actual goddesses 10 billion years into the future, along with ditching the "Princess" titles and becoming Queens. Because of the nature of their ascension and divinity, they can't interact even with the normal alicorns for long periods of time and have to be guarded by their royal consorts, King Tirek and King Scorpan.
  • Badass Finger Snap: Discord snaps his fingers in the beginning, instantly turning a hard layer of protective glass into a pile of nachos.
  • Benevolent A.I.: JackAI is a Virtual Ghost who can possess various machine bodies, including a Humongous Mecha version of her mortal self. However, she's still the same Applejack despite the change.
  • Big Entrance: Tech Leader fled ten billion years into the future just to escape retribution for her crimes. To rectify this, several characters made a plan to wait for her until she arrives by finding ways to turn themselves immortal. Under the guidance of Magic Incarnate, these characters introduce themselves in the most dynamic way possible in quick succession once they finally reunite with Tech Leader.
    • Rainbow Hurricane and Ghostly Pie encounter Tech Leader in the Everfree Forest, the former drawn to Tech Leader's racism and making herself known by freezing her shoulder cannons. When Tech Leader flees to Ponytropolis, they chase her to the center, setting the stage for everyone else's arrival.
    • JackAI introduces herself by stomping into view with her Apple Megalith body. Around the same time, Rariamat and Spykoran, two massive elder dragons, have perched themselves on the roof of a nearby building.
    • Discord and his Happily Married wife Fluttershy, now Flutterbold, arrive by transforming a building and its residents into a giant wedding cake, which they jump out of shortly after. They then proceed to passionately make out in public.
    • Love introduces themselves by loudly gushing about Discord and Flutterbold's passionate love. They are followed by their wife, Empress Chrysalis, who approaches Tech Leader in an alicorn disguise before revealing her true, healed form, and their husband Sombra, who emerges from Tech Leader's own shadow.
    • Finally, as Tech Leader despairs over being outnumbered and outmatched, Magic Incarnate appears, descending from the skies in her four alicorn bodies (i.e. Twilight Sparkle, Sunset Shimmer, Trixie Lulamoon, and Starlight Glimmer) while voicing Tech Leader's thoughts out loud in agreement.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: After having one Oh, Crap! reaction too many, Tech Leader finally loses it when she learns that Spykoran still remembers her attempt to poison him when he was still Spike the baby dragon.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: King Sombra performed a Heel–Face Turn ten billion years into the future thanks to Love. By the time Tech Leader meets him, he has transformed into an alicorn radiating with dark power, but is a loving consort of Love and benevolent co-ruler of the Crystal Imperium.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Tech Leader escapes ten billion years into the future, but forgot that a few of her pursuers are immortal, and that by traveling ten billion years into the future, she basically gave her enemies who are not already immortal more than enough time to plan on how to to become immortal. So by the time she arrives in the future, she is rendered hopelessly outnumbered and outmatched. Fortunately for her, since Equestria is now a utopia of undisputed love and friendship, everyone has forgiven her for her crimes and are willing to welcome her with open hooves.
  • Easily Forgiven: The people who were angry at Tech Leader for trying to commit racial genocide with the dragons in the present day, have forgiven her when she meets them again ten billion years later. To be fair, ten billion years is a long time for anyone to continue holding a grudge.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Implied with Future Celestia and Future Luna. While they still rule Equestria, Magic Incarnate explains that Celestia and Luna ascended and became true goddesses, but the nature of their ascension prevented them from existing among mortals for long periods of time. As such, they have isolated themselves, with their royal consorts, King Tirek and King Scorpan, serving as their guardians. Despite this, they are still benevolent sovereigns of Equestria and have spent ten billion years waiting for Tech Leader just to reunite with her.
  • Emotion Eater:
    • Rainbow Hurricane, Queen of the Windigos, is one, thriving on The Power of Hate. However, because Rainbow Hurricane now lives in a future Equestria that has become a utopia filled with love, friendship, and harmony, she's forced to move to Everfree Forest where Tech Leader finds her. As such, she finds Tech Leader's racism a very rare and delectable treat.
    • Chrysalis, too. In Future Equestria ten billion years later, there is now so much love to go around that it both healed her and ended the perpetual hunger that plagued her and her changelings. She now takes on a beautiful butterfly-esque appearance compared to her rotting, emaciated form seen in A Canterlot Wedding.
  • Eternal Love: As Tech Leader discovered ten billion years later, those who got married to mortals helped find ways to help their mortal partners obtain godhood or at least a similar form of immortality. For example, Princess Cadence fused with Shining Armor to create the alicorn Love; Fluttershy became the female Draconequus Flutterbold; and Rarity turned herself into the elder dragoness Rariamat. King Tirek and King Scorpan are also implied to have become immortal, given that they're both consorts to Queens Celestia and Luna (who are bonafide goddesses by this point) and became their eternal guardians as their wives cannot interact with mortals for very long.
  • Everybody Wants the Hermaphrodite: Love is a mix-gendered alicorn fusion, with one half of their body being Shining Armor and the other half being Princess Cadence. Despite this, they have entered a loving, polyamorous marriage with a redeemed King Sombra and Queen Chrysalis, who are Love's husband and wife, respectively.
  • Evil Is Deathly Cold: After becoming Queen of the Windigos, Future Rainbow Dash, now Rainbow Hurricane, turned into a frigid entity with glowing eyes and wings made of crystalline ice. She and her race also feed on hatred, as the Windigos have done in canon.
  • Evil Laugh: Tech Leader does this many times in the beginning.
  • Fantastic Racism: Tech Leader is extremely racist towards dragons. She tried wiping out dragonkind with a poison she created, which she nearly killed Spike with by feeding him poisoned gems. Her questioning Cloudsdale pegasi about using clouds as a delivery system for her poison was what tipped off Celestia's suspicions and started the story.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: Tech Leader, as the only living being from the old Equestria after travelling ten billion years into the future, is the only pony who is not an alicorn in the utopian Future Equestria. To her dismay, she's the only pony who still holds racist beliefs since Future Equestria got rid of racism by then, and it's her racism that attracts Rainbow Hurricane and her Windigos to her due to them feeding on hatred.
  • Fusion Dance: A "Composite" example in Shining Armor and Princess Cadence, who have merged together to become the immortal alicorn Love, with one half being Cadence and the other being Shining. It's currently unknown how they managed to do it, but Chrysalis recalls being disturbed when she saw it happen.
  • The Future Will Be Better: The future Tech Leader visits is Equestria after it became a utopian paradise - concepts such as war, racism, and fear are eradicated. All ponies have ascended into alicorns. Different species, including changelings, zebras, dragons, hybrids, and griffins, live with the ascended ponies without trouble. Ponyville has now become a thriving Skyscraper City called "Ponytropolis", where technology meshed with nature, and several businesses such as the Cakes' Sugarcube Corner have become extremely successful mega-corporations. The world is literally filled with friendship and love. What's more, all of the canon villains have been redeemed and now permanently on the side of good, including Discord.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Rainbow Hurricane's eyes are glowing white, and she's the queen of the Windigos, who feed on hatred and anger and once covered Equestria with a snowstorm in canon.
  • Glowing Mechanical Eyes: JackAI, at least when using the Apple Megalith body, has eyes that glow orange.
  • The Good King:
    • Implied with King Sombra. In Future Equestria, he pulled a Heel–Face Turn, and became a benevolent co-ruler of the Crystal Imperium and the loving husband of an alicorn fusion and a Changeling Empress.
    • Also implied with Tirek, who also became a good King of Future Equestria after marrying Celestia. It's noted that because Celestia ascended to become a bonafide goddess, he started serving as her guardian since she couldn't intermingle with mortals for long periods of time.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: After becoming a draconequus, Fluttershy gained mixed wings like Discord, with angelic (hawk) and demonic (bat) wings.
  • Happily Married: Some canon characters have gotten married ten billion years into the future, as Tech Leader discovers.
    • Discord and Fluttershy got together, with Fluttershy turning into a draconequus and renaming herself Flutterbold at some point. Their Big Entrance even involved transforming a building and its inhabitants into a giant wedding cake which they shortly jump out of. Then they passionately kiss shortly after.
    • Rarity and Spike also got together, with Rarity transforming into the elder dragoness Rariamat to resolve the complications their Interspecies Romance posed.
    • Shining Armor and Princess Cadence are also married, as in canon, though their love grew to the point where they decided to fuse together and become the immortal alicorn Love. After this, they as Love entered a loving, polyamorous marriage with a redeemed King Sombra and Queen Chrysalis. Love even introduces Chrysalis as their bride.
    • King Tirek and King Scorpan became royal consorts of Queen Celestia and Queen Luna, respectively, sometime after Tirek's redemption. Magic notes both Tirek and Scorpan serve as guardians for their wives, as Celestia and Luna became full-on goddesses and cannot exist among mortals for long periods of time.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Every MLP villain in Future Equestria, including Discord, Tirek, Sombra, Scorpan, and Chrysalis. The aforementioned villains are also married. At the end of the story, Tech Leader herself is showing signs of being on her way to turning good after seeing how hopelessly outmatched she is, only for everyone to show her mercy and forgiveness.
  • Heel–Race Turn: Implied with the Changelings. With Equestria becoming a utopia of peace, friendship, and harmony, the sheer abundance of Love healed the Changelings and ended their need to prey on ponies to satiate their love-based Horror Hunger. Ten billion years later, the Changelings co-exist with ponies and other races, with their leader, Chrysalis, becoming a co-ruler of the Crystal Imperium alongside Love and Sombra.
  • The High Queen:
    • Future Celestia and Future Luna have become queens of Equestria ten billion years into the future. While they still love their subjects dearly, it's implied they have ascended as bonafide goddesses, which has prevented them from living or interacting among mortals for long periods of time.
    • Future Chrysalis also counts. Ten billion years later, she went from a Changeling Queen to a co-ruling Empress of the Crystal Empire, following her Heel–Face Turn and marrying Love. Her Changeling subjects now live among Ponies and other races in peaceful coexistence.
  • Hive Mind: Future Twilight Sparkle, Future Trixie Lulamoon, Future Sunset Shimmer, and Future Starlight Glimmer all have this; due to their great magical potential, their minds and souls have permanently fused into one, creating Magic Incarnate, the living embodiment of Equestria's life force. They are essentially one entity controlling four bodies — every time they act or speak, they do so in perfect unison with each other.
  • Humongous Mecha: Future Applejack, now JackAI, introduces herself ten billion years later by using the Apple Megalith body, which was apparently done at the behest of Magic Incarnate. Rariamat teases her for it.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Rariamat teases JackAI for using her Apple Megalith body to greet Tech Leader, when she and her husband Spykoran made a dramatic entrance themselves. Both JackAI and Spykoran lampshade this.
Rariamat: REALLY JackAI. Using the Apple Megalith body?
JackAI: (giggles) Shoot, Rarity. Y'all know that Magic wanted us to go showy for this one.
Spykoran: She does have a point, Rariamat. We did make something of an entrance ourselves just now.
Rariamat: (nuzzling Spykoran) Ah, my darling Spykoran. Allow me the pleasure of teasing my friends once in a while, hm?
  • Incoming Ham: Love introduces themselves by hovering in the skies, loudly gushing about Discord and Flutterbold's passionate display of their love.
Love: Such passion! Such wild abandon in your show of affection! Wondrous! (Tech Leader looks up and sees Love hovering in the skies) We are Love! And Love has awaited your return, Tech Leader!
  • Immortality Seeker: After Tech Leader escapes ten billion years into the future, all the canon characters, both hero and villain, seek ways to turn themselves immortal so they can wait for her until the day she arrives. When Tech Leader does arrive, she is hopelessly outnumbered and outmatched by the various godlike beings who now populate Equestria, causing her to realize that time means nothing when you're immortal.
  • Interspecies Romance:
    • Averted with Future Rarity and Future Fluttershy, who both transformed themselves into immortal creatures ten billion years into the future to not only ensure they'll be with their loves forever, but also get rid of any complications that might come with mixed-race relationships. In Rarity's case, she turned into Rariamat the elder dragonness to be with Spike/Spykoran, while Fluttershy became Flutterbold the draconequus to be with Discord.
    • Played straight with other relationships in the story; Love, an Alicorn fusion, is in a polycule with Empress Chrysalis (a Changeling) and King Sombra (an Alicorn), while Celestia and Luna (Alicorns) are married to King Tirek (a Centaur) and King Scorpan (a Gargoyle), respectively.
  • Jumping Out of a Cake: Flutterbold and Discord's part of the Big Entrance involves transforming a building and its residents into a giant wedding cake, which they shortly jump out in a cloud of fireworks.
  • Large Ham: Being the Anthropomorphic Personification of love, Love tends to get really excited whenever people show their love for one another. When Tech Leader first meets them ten billion years into the future, they're gushing about Discord and Flutterbold's passionate making-out.
  • Love Redeems: Both King Sombra and Queen Chrysalis are redeemed through love ten billion years later by an alicorn literally named "Love". Also a literal case with Chrysalis; it's implied that the huge abundance of love in Future Equestria healed her and her people, and ended the need to prey on ponies for love, leading to a Heel–Race Turn.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Rariamat is a portmanteau of Rarity and Tiamat, a Mesopotamian sea goddess whose appearance is popularly associated with a dragon or serpent.
    • Flutterbold is basically a "bolder" and more confident future version of Fluttershy who isn't afraid to express her love for Discord by passionately making out with him in public.
    • JackAI contains elements of "Applejack", combining "Jack" with "AI", with the I acting as the L. The "AI" part is due to being a Virtual Ghost.
    • Chrysalis is the stage where a pupa undergoes a transformation. True to form, in Future Equestria ten billion years later, the overabundance of love and friendship healed her appearance and transformed her into a butterfly-esque creature.
    • Love is an immortal alicorn who is also the living, breathing embodiment of Shining and Cadence's Happily Married relationship. Love also refers to a concept that transcends boundaries, as Love is in a polyamorious marriage with the redeemed Queen Chrysalis and King Sombra.
  • Meaningful Rename: Due to having changed a lot over the course of ten billion years, some canon characters have renamed themselves to reflect their transformations.
    • Future Fluttershy has renamed herself "Flutterbold" after becoming more self-confident and sexually open. Being Happily Married to someone like Discord helped tremendously.
    • Tech Leader's original name was Winky Whispers, but changed it to her current one after discovering her talent in technology, wanting to be associated with something less humiliating.
    • Future Shining Armor and Future Cadence renamed themselves "Love" after fusing together into a single alicorn to represent their loving marriage.
    • Future Twilight, Future Sunset Shimmer, Future Starlight Glimmer, and Future Trixie Lulamoon no longer go by their original names because their strong magic have fused their souls and minds together while leaving their bodies intact. This led to them being collectively called 'Magic Incarnate', the living embodiment of Equestria's life force.
    • Ghostly Pie is aptly named because... well, Pinkie Pie became a ghost in the future.
    • Future Rainbow Dash renamed herself Rainbow Hurricane because at some point, she transformed into a Windigo and became queen of the Windigos.
  • Metamorphosis: Implied with Future Chrysalis. After Equestria turned into a peaceful and harmonious utopia over the course of ten billion years, the sheer abundance of love transformed Chrysalis from her rotting, holed, and hateful appearance in canon to a Changeling Empress with a poofier, styled mane and tail and crystalline butterfly wings. She also gained a cutie mark depicting a green, radiant heart, something she didn't have in canon.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Future Fluttershy, now Flutterbold, is described as a lovely-looking draconequus with the wings of a hawk and a bat, the arms of a wolf and a calico housecat, the legs of an elk and cheetah, the body of a dragoness, the horns of a caribou and a goat, the tail of a wasp, and a Pony's head.
  • Multiple Head Case: Rariamat, aka Future Rarity, is a female elder dragon with five heads. Unlike most examples with this trope, she's still Rarity, and is capable of speaking through each head.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: By traveling ten billion years into the future, Tech Leader basically gave her enemies who are not already immortal more than enough time to plan on how to to become immortal. So by the time she arrives in the future, she is rendered hopelessly outnumbered and outmatched.
  • Oh, Crap!: After traveling into the future, Tech Leader discovers that the ponies (and Discord) she had angered as well as her would-be victim Spike have all become immortal in some way and waited for her, for ten billion years.
  • Our Dragons Are Different:
    • The female five-headed elder dragon Rariamat used to be Rarity the unicorn ten billion years ago. Presumably she turned herself into one as a way to become immortal, both to wait for Tech Leader's arrival and to be with her lover Spike/Spykoran.
    • Flutterbold became a draconequus like Discord at some point and therefore is part dragon.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: Ghostly Pie, who is the spirit of Pinkie Pie after she died sometime before the ten billion year future occurred. She's able to do things that she cannot while alive.
  • Our Gods Are Different: While Celestia and Luna are ageless Alicorns in the present, Tech Leader learns ten billions later that they eventually Ascended and became true goddesses. It's implied they're Eldritch Abominations as they can't intermingle with mortals for long periods of time, so they must be guarded by their husbands, King Tirek and King Scorpan.
  • Polyamory: Love, the living alicorn fusion of Shining Armor and Cadence, is in a romantic threesome with a redeemed Queen Chrysalis and King Sombra. It's implied they're also co-rulers of the Crystal Empire, which became the Crystal Imperium ten billion years into the future, as Chrysalis apparently gained the title of Empress.
  • Posthumous Character: Zecora is implied to be dead ten billion years in the future, as Ponytropolis has built the Zecora Memorial Apothecary in tribute to her.
  • The Power of Hate: Rainbow Hurricane and her Windigos thrive on hatred. Being Emotion Eaters in a world full of love and peace, they're forced to live in the Everfree Forest far away from society, and thus find Tech Leader's anti-dragon racism to be a very delicious and rare treat.
  • Purple Is Powerful:
    • In the future ten billion years later, Spike has grown into a large, purple-scaled, elder dragon named Spykoran. His wife, the purple-haired Rarity, turned herself into the elder dragoness Rariamat — both to ensure she'll be with Spike forever and also get rid of any complications that might come with mixed-race relationships.
    • Starlight Glimmer and Twilight Sparkle are purple-coated mares who, due to their sheer magical power, fused their minds and souls with those of Sunset Shimmer and Trixie Lulamoon to become Magic Incarnate, the living embodiment of the planet's life-force.
  • Shadow Walker: The redeemed King Sombra introduces himself ten billion years in the future by appearing through Tech Leader's shadow.
  • Slasher Smile: Ghostly Pie gives one to Tech Leader after offering to turn the latter into a burger for Rainbow Hurricane to eat, causing the mare to run off in fright.
  • The Slow Path: Implied with a few characters like Spike, who grew into the elder dragon Spykoran over ten billion years.
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: The story happened because Tech Leader attempted to kill Spike by giving him poisoned gems to eat as an attempt to test out the effectiveness of her anti-dragon poison. Fortunately, Spike survives, but he was hospitalized and had to take weeks for the poison to be flushed out of his body.
  • That Man Is Dead: Flutterbold, when called by her old name by Tech Leader, replies that "Shy" flew south for the winter a long time ago.
  • Time Travel Escape: Tech Leader travels ten billion years into the future to escape the fury of the Mane 6, the Princesses, Discord, and royal guards from both Canterlot and the Crystal Empire. They still caught her, as they had ten billion years to figure out how to become immortal so they can wait for her arrival in the future.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Out of all the characters who remained good or turned good ten billion years later, Future Rainbow Dash is the only one who became 'evil' in the sense that she became the Windigo queen Rainbow Hurricane, whose people are Emotion Eaters that are drawn to and feed on The Power of Hate. Despite this, she never broke ties with the Mane Six or her other friends for that matter, even though living in a utopia means she and the Windigos don't have much hatred to feed on anymore. Plus, it's implied that Pinkie Pie, now Ghostly Pie, is living with Rainbow Hurricane in the Everfree Forest to keep her company.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Tech Leader discovers, to her increasing dismay and fright, that the people she antagonized have become much more powerful since traveling ten billion years into the future. For example, Fluttershy became a much more confident draconequus, Rainbow Dash became a Windigo queen, Rarity and Spike became elder dragons, Applejack became a benevolent AI, Shining Armor and Cadence became an alicorn fusion, and so on. When she reunites with them in Ponyville, now Ponytropolis, she is immediately outnumbered and outmatched.
  • True Companions: Even after ten billion years have passed and they all changed drastically, the Mane Six remained as close as ever. Notably, Rainbow Hurricane, despite becoming a Windigo Queen, is still accepted by her friends and her presence is not treated with revulsion when they all gather to meet a time-traveling Tech Leader. Even while living in isolation in the Everfree Forest due to needing to feed on hatred, she is accompanied by Ghostly Pie, who chose to live with Rainbow Hurricane so her old friend wouldn't be alone.
  • Virtual Ghost: JackAI, aka Future Applejack, is implied to have become this, as the body she uses to reunite with Tech Leader is mentioned to be completely robotic.
  • Visual Pun: While Equestria has changed drastically into a utopia of peace, friendship, and harmony, the Everfree Forest and the things within (such as Tech Leader's laboratory and the Windigos living in Everfree) are notably left the same, untouched by time. It shows that bad things like hatred and bigotry have become a thing of the past in Future Equestria.
  • Voice of the Legion:
    • Love's voice consists of a stallion and mare speaking simulataneously, and they always refer to themselves as "we" and "our". This is because they are an immortal alicorn fusion of Shining Armor and Princess Cadence.
    • As the entity Magic Incarnate, Princesses Trixie Lulamoon, Sunset Shimmer, Starlight Glimmer, and Twilight Sparkle speak as one, due to their minds and souls fusing together to form a Hive Mind. As is the case with Love, Magic's alicorn bodies all refer to themselves as "we" and "our".
  • Wendigo: Rainbow Hurricane, aka Future Rainbow Dash, has become queen of the Windigos ten billion years later.
  • Winged Unicorn: As Tech Leader discovers ten billion years later, Ponies were able to become alicorns en masse thanks to everyone figuring out how to do it. Unfortunately, this makes Tech Leader, the only non-Alicorn Pony in existence, stick out like a sore thumb, which she promptly lampshades. However, the story notes there are 'mundane' alicorns, which make up the vast majority, and alicorns like Love and King Sombra, who radiate raw power far different from them.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Tech Leader was willing to hurt Spike (whose age in canon equals that of an adolescent) by feeding him poisoned gems because he's a dragon. Spike fortunately survives, but Shining Armor notes he'll be in the hospital for weeks in order to flush the poison out of his system. When Tech Leader travels ten billion years into the future, she finds that Spike, now Spykoran, has hasn't forgotten her attempted poisoning, but has long since forgiven her for it.
  • You Are Not Alone: Implied. As a Windigo Queen who feeds on negative emotions like hatred and bigotry, Rainbow Hurricane literally can't live with her friends in a peaceful, harmonious, and loving utopia that is Future Equestria, and is forced to live in the nearby Everfree Forest. Ghostly Pie lives there with her to keep her company.
