The Violet Room is a completed Kingdom Hearts Alternate Universe Fic by Sarehptar.
The story centers on Ienzo Amaryllis, a patient in the psychiatric ward of Rufus Memorial Hospital, and Myde Cistern, a new intern to the the ward. Ienzo spends his days writing on the walls of his hospital room, but the longer Myde spends around him, the more familiar Ienzo's story of "Demyx", "Zexion", and "Organization XIII" seems to be. As Myde and Ienzo remember who they were, they struggle to find their place in a world that no longer remembers them.
Notable for excellent characterization and masterful writing, the story ranges from very dark to comedic depending on the scene. The story contains many characters from the Kingdom Hearts series, as well as characters from The Jungle Book (1967), Final Fantasy IX, Tarzan, and many more.
This fanfic contains examples of:
- The Backwards Я: Shows up with many other non-English characters in the titles.
- Batman Gambit/Zany Scheme: Ienzo's plan to steal the Akashic Record from Yen Sid, involving 47 steps which range from sticking chewing gum in a door to instigating a riot. It works.
- Bloodier and Gorier: Chapter 10 features Death of a Thousand Cuts, High-Pressure Blood, Eldritch Abominations, and a character being Eaten Alive then Driven to Suicide. Turns out, they're mostly Hallucinations, but that doesn't stop the characters from thinking they're real.
- Cheshire Cat Grin: Fittingly, Chester Carrol.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Myde. Or, more specifically, Demyx.
- Dark and Troubled Past:
- Ienzo killed his own father during a massive Freak Out after losing his emotions, leading to him pleading insanity to avoid prison time and being locked in the mental hospital for the next ten years.
- Cloud was subject to illegal human experimentation at the hands of none other than Sephiroth. And that's just scratching the tip of the iceberg - not that he gives much more detail than that.
- Deadpan Snarker: Ienzo, especially to Myde.
- Doomed by Canon: Considering he's an orphan in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, it's obvious Ienzo's parents won't survive the Troubled Backstory Flashback.
- Dreaming of Times Gone By: Ienzo's attempt at using the Darkness knocks him in a coma-like dream that flashes back to his original life. Overlaps with Flashback Nightmare.
- Faking the Dead: Overlapping with No One Could Survive That! - Rufus Shinra is still alive despite being burned alive in an undisclosed incident. The general public believes he's dead, but there's a rumour he's still alive, wrapped up like a mummy due to how disfigured he is - which turns out to be true.
- Floating Water: In chapter 7, Myde causes this to happen by using his powers until he's caught.
- Freak Out: Ienzo had one as a child, after remembering he was a Nobody.
- Frivolous Summoning: Myde comes across a stand where some kids sell handmade bracelets and stuff in exchange for doing something scary. After thinking about it, he decides to summon one of his Dancer Nobodies and has it fetch a bracelet. After they get over their initial shock, the kids LOVE it. Later on he orders them to carry some books.
- Genki Girl: Yuffie, who is also Myde's best friend.
- The Ghost: An example that's acknowledged In-Universe as the Sora phenomenon. According to Aerith, literally everyone in the yard feels some kind of connection to Sora, even though there's no proof he's real - as far as anyone can tell. Somehow everyone just feels and is impacted by his presence (or lack of thereof).
- Gratuitous Italian: The chapter titles are in Italian, even though none of the characters speak it.
- Heroic BSoD: Referenced in chapter 9.It was a good thing Myde's brain was still organic matter and not fractals or data conversion or whatever the hell it was the Akashic Record had been talking about, because this was certainly a Does Not Compute moment. Mainframes crashing.
- I Just Want to Be Normal: When Myde's angsting, this is the general reason for it.
- I Just Want to Be Special: Ienzo, especially when he shows jealousy over Myde having control over his powers when Ienzo's only (possibly) opened a portal.
- Important Haircut: Myde gets one in chapter 9 to illustrate the fact that he is changing back into Demyx. No one really notices until he gets home and his mom freaks out.
- Insanity Defense: Used by Ienzo when he's tried for attempted manslaughter against his father. It's the reason he's currently institutionalized.
- The Intern: Myde at Rufus Memorial Hospital.
- Laughing Mad: Ienzo, after he opens a dark portal.
- Literary Allusion Title: From Edgar Allan Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death."
- Making a Splash: Demyx when he was originally alive. And Myde as well, following chapter 7.
- Meaningful Name: The main characters' last names. Amaryllis is a flower symbolizing beauty, pride, and determination, and a cistern is a tank for catching and holding rainwater.
- Naïve Newcomer: As The Intern, Myde is this to the hospital, but he (mostly) learns how things are a few chapters in.
- Noodle Incident: Cloud once drove Fenrir (his motorcycle) over a skyscraper. In THIS life, where there's supposedly nothing magical or sci-fi going on.
- Reference Overdosed: On top of literary references in every chapter and the usual Disney shout outs, things like Neopets, Fight Club, and Silent Hill are also mentioned.
- Room Full of Crazy: The titular violet room. Ienzo has written his life story and theories on the walls.
- The Schizophrenia Conspiracy: Averted, Kairi is stated to have Catatonic Schizophrenia. Possibly irrelevant, as Kairi is hinted to not have schizophrenia in the first place, but is instead in telepathetic contact with Sora.
- The Slacker: Hilariously, Ienzo, despite having a doctorate and at least two college degrees.
- Talkative Loon: Chester Carroll.
- Thoroughly Mistaken Identity: What Aerith believes Ienzo's belief of Myde being Demyx is. Subverted, as Ienzo's totally correct in his assumption.
- Through the Eyes of Madness: Multiple characters in chapter 10.
- Tomato in the Mirror: A twist on the usual trope: the readers are aware of said "tomato" from the start. Instead, it is Ienzo's and Myde's struggles to deal with the fact that they're still Nobodies that fuels much of the plot.
- Troubled Fetal Position: Ienzo at one point in chapter 7.
- Unspoken Plan Guarantee: The plan Ienzo thinks up to get the Akashic Record.
- Wise Beyond Their Years: Played straight and lampshaded with Ienzo in chapter 10.
