Go To

The Prince of Dorne is a ‘’A Song of Ice and Fire’’ fanfic that follows Prince Lewyn Martell, son of Doran Martell and his part in his father’s schemes to avenge his family.

Tropes that appear in this fanfic:

  • Affectionate Nickname:
    • Lewyn refers to Arianne as Ari.
    • Doran calls his wife Mellario Mel.
  • Age Lift: Arianne Martell is younger than she was in canon to accommodate for Lewyn being the eldest of Prince Doran’s children.
  • Advertisement:
  • Aloof Older Brother: Lewyn isn’t very close with his younger brothers Quentyn and Trystane; Quentyn because he was fostered with the Yronwoods and Trystane because they are far apart in age.
  • Ascended Extra:
    • Doran Martell is the POV for the first chapter.
    • Aron Santagar becomes a POV for Chapter 12.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Obara Sand shows this from an early age when she spits in Lewyn’s eye while sparring.
  • Dead Guy Junior:
    • Lewyn is named for his great-uncle, Ser Lewyn Martell.
    • Trystane Martell is named for Doran’s father.
  • Death by Adaptation: Lewyn kills the Mountain in the Hand’s Tourney.
  • Death by Childbirth: Symon Santagar’s wife died giving birth to her 12th daughter.
  • Eye Scream: The Mountain receives a lance right in the eye.
  • Freudian Excuse: Discussed; Lewyn thinks that while Queen Cersei is unpleasant, he doesn’t blame her; anyone wouldn’t be nice if they married Robert Baratheon and watched him sire bastards all around the Seven Kingdoms. Joffrey on the other hand has no excuse.
  • Advertisement:
  • Heir Club for Men: Played with. Sylva Santagar can inherit the lands held by her father Ser Symon, but she cannot inherit his title because the Faith of the Seven does not allow women to become knights.
  • A Hero Is Born: The story begins with Lewyn’s birth.
  • History Repeats: Like Rhaegar Targaryen, Lewyn wins a tournament and crowns a Stark Queen of Love and Beauty. However, Lewyn is a little smarter with his words.
  • Karmic Death: The Mountain killed Ser Hugh in a tourney and made it look like an accident. Lewyn, the nephew of the woman the Mountain raped and murdered, kills him the same way: in a tourney and makes it look like an accident.
  • Licked by the Dog: Lady takes a liking to Lewyn.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: Symon Santagar has 12 daughters.
  • The Mole: Lewyn is one for his father Doran.
  • Multi-Melee Master: Lewyn is fairly skilled with swords and spears. Not so much the whip, but since that’s what he has on hand to stop Joffrey hurting Mycah, he uses that.
  • Named by the Adaptation:
      Advertisement:
    • Doran’s father was named Trystane, while Mellario’s was named Darius.
    • Doran’s mother, the ruling Princess of Dorne, was named Loreza.
  • Original Character: Prince Lewyn Martell, eldest son and heir of Doran Martell.
  • Professional Buttkisser: Lewyn’s opinion of Ned Stark, the “Usurper’s dog, who had obeyed him in all things and came running from his home for him whenever he was asked.”
  • Royal Brat: Joffrey, natch. Lewyn is surprised nobody tried to kill him beforehand. The various things he does include terrorizing Tommen and killing his pets, mocking Myrcella with promises that he’ll force her to wed a Dirty Old Man, forcing the servants to do weird tasks and threatening to whip them if they refuse.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Since Lewyn intervenes before Nymeria has a chance to maul Joffrey, Lady survives the incident at the Crossroads Inn.
  • Stranger in a Familiar Land: Aron Santagar recalls the last time he had been in Dorne, and all those he knew glared at him as if he were a stranger. At that point he realized that Dorne was no longer his home.
  • Token Minority: Lewyn is the only Dornishman in the Royal Court at King’s Landing, the public reason for him being there is because Dorne wishes to rejoin the fold at court, according to Robert it was Jon Arryn's idea. The truth of it being that Lewyn had been sent to court by Doran to friend any friends for Dorne in the court and to spy on Robert.
  • Vague Age: It isn’t stated how old Lewyn is, except that he was old enough to remember hearing the news of the Tourney at Harrenhal and Elia Martell’s death, which both occurred more than 15 years before the books began.
  • You Remind Me of X: Sansa’s disgust about Arya getting herself dirty reminds Lewyn of Arianne getting embarrassed at him.
