He wanted to try being normal. He might still be able to get his wish, but he'll have to settle for being a normal Devil with a normal amount of memories from dead people he's never met... Kazami Yuuji has begun to wonder if maybe he isn't very good at this.
Summary

It currently stands at 42 chapters.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Heroism:
  • Adapted Out:
    • Instead of getting Rassei, a baby lightning dragon, as her familiar, Asia gets Suu.
    • Millicus Gremory doesn't exist here, as Sirzech's true form makes it impossible for him to sire offspring.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: While still a member of Sirzech's peerage, Grayfia isn't his consort, largely because his being a physical manifestation of destruction makes copulating with him extremely dangerous.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Yuuji pats Koneko's head early in the training montage in Chapter 3.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Kuroka calls Yuuji "Playboy-kun" due to his sexual exploits.
  • All-Loving Heroine: Asia is usually this trope, which is why her outright hatred for Diodora Astaroth feels so strange to her.
  • All Women Are Lustful: Akeno certainly is, especially after she becomes Yuuji's girlfriend.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Kokabiel loses an arm and a wing due to getting a taste of Yuuji's Balance Breaker. And then he runs into Grayfia...
  • Animal Motif: Yuuji seems to have a strong connection with dogs.
  • Apologetic Attacker: When Kuroka tries to leave Yuuji's apartment before fully recovering, Asia reluctantly orders Suu to subdue her.
  • Asshole Victim: Valper Galilei is defeated by Kiba and Xenovia, then killed unceremoniously by Kokabiel.
  • Ax-Crazy: True to form, Freed Selzen is a pants-on-head lunatic who shrieks about killing devils.
  • Balanced Harem: While Akeno is the de facto Top Wife, Yuuji doesn't neglect the rest of his harem. In fact, if one of the haremettes explicitly reserves a date with him, the rest of them will back off and let them be without propositioning him.
  • Bears Are Bad News: During a camping trip, JB has a run-in with a bear, though Yuuji bails her out.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Suu is just as friendly and playful as ever. But make no mistake, when it comes to combat, she can be just as ruthless as Yuuji. And she's got no compunction about eating her kill.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Kuroka towards Koneko.
  • Blessed with Suck: Riser Phoenix's Healing Factor just gives Yuuji the opportunity to torture him into submission.
  • Blood Knight: Vali Lucifer declares that violence is the only thing he's good for, and that he could never dwell in a peaceful environment.
  • Blood-Splattered Warrior: Yuuji after fighting Dohnaseek.
  • Breather Episode: Chapter 30, in which Yuuji simply has marathon romps with his haremettes.
  • Brutal Honesty: Yuuji doesn't pull punches with his words, most notably when it comes to training. He does have the decency to apologize if he gets too harsh, however.
    • He is a bit gentler when it comes to Koneko due to her cuteness.
  • Chick Magnet: Yuuji, being Tall, Dark, and Handsome, quickly becomes a "prince" of Kuoh Academy alongside Kiba Yuuto.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Yuuji pours acid down Riser Phoenix's throat, then splashes more deadly chemicals in his face during the Rating Game.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Yuuji will launch surprise attacks, get you caught up in friendly fire, use coins as projectiles if you make a high-speed beeline for him, shoot you in the leg, etc. He promises to pass this philosophy onto Kiba (who's too honorable in his battle conduct at the moment), declaring he'll teach the Knight to "cheat like a bastard."
  • Cool Big Sis: Grayfia towards Sachi.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: The inherent flaw of the Occult Research Club when it comes to combat at the beginning of the story is that they're all too specialized. Rias has so much natural talent that she hasn't bothered to develop an actual fighting style; Akeno is pretty much the same, in addition to being a sadist who plays with her food too much; Kiba is too straightforward and honorable, and has no mid-to-long range techniques; and Koneko is a beat-stick with little to no flexibility.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Rias and Akeno glomp Koneko at the end of Chapter 7, nuzzling her and gushing about how cute she is, much to her annoyance.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: Yuuji's Balance Breaker, "Unknown Soldier", is heavily implied to be potentially fatal to its wielder.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Yuuji, Koneko, Kuroka, Irina, Raynare, Kalawarner, Gasper—really, it's easier to name characters in the story who don't have this.
  • Death by Adaptation: Issei and his parents died years ago protecting Irina from a devil.
  • Determinator: Even as Riser tries to set him on fire, Yuuji soldiers through the pain and keeps on torturing him until he forfeits the Rating Game, though being hopped up on military-grade painkillers certainly helped a lot.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Kuroka gets all excited by her upcoming date with Yuuji in Chapter 37, only to realize she's never been on an actual date before and is completely out of her element.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: When Serafall starts glomping Sona on Family Day, Yuuji gets her to stop by flicking her on the nose in public! Thankfully, she takes it in stride.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Following the Viser mission, Rias "asks" Yuuji to train the rest of the Occult Research Club in order to work out the problems in their battle conduct. He makes it clear that it's not going to be fun.
Yuuji: "I know Devils are supposed to be native to Hell, but fair warning: I'm going to show you what Hell really looks like."
  • Electric Torture: Akeno's bread and butter. She subjects Diodora Astaroth to a very satisfying case of this in Chapter 34.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: True to canon, Sona doesn't like being called "So-tan".
  • The Glomp:
    • Suu likes hugging people she's fond of, and can even use her hugs as a method of restraining others, as Kuroka finds out.
    • Kuroka enjoys glomping her little sister, as shown in Chapter 17.
  • Going Commando: In Chapter 17, after a roll-around with Yuuji, Akeno forgets to put her panties back on, much to her embarrassment when an amused Rias points it out.
  • The Gunslinger: To the bewilderment of the rest of the Occult Research Club, Yuuji's Sacred Gear manifests as a gun the first time he uses it. He can change what type of firearm it is, too. Its full form, Arsenal Memoir, allows him to use any kind of weapon or accessory he's ever used before.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Kuroka pulls one in Chapter 10, though given her character, it wasn't that much of a heel.
  • Heroes Gone Fishing: Crosses over with Villains Out Shopping since the main cast are denizens of Hell, but in Chapter 29, Yuuji goes on a fishing trip with the Gremory men and Kiba. He catches a grindylow, and gets into a fight with it. They later catch a Kraken and cook it.
  • Holier Than Thou: The Fallen Angels sent to retrieve or kill Kuroka (and kidnap Asia) have massively condescending views towards other species, with their leader underestimating Yuuji something fierce. Unsurprisingly, they all die.
  • Kill It with Fire: Archangel Uriel's preferred method of killing his enemies is by barbecuing them.
  • The Lost Lenore: Issei is this for Irina.
  • Make It Look Like an Accident: In Chapter 9, Yuuji offers to kill Xenovia and Irina in this fashion should they cause anymore trouble. Rias shoots him down.
  • Meaningful Rename: Like in his parent series, Ulysse's name is changed to Ruth as an acknowledgment of his loyalty and trustworthiness.
  • Never Bring a Sword to a Gun Fight: While sparring with Kiba, Yuuji doesn't hesitate to use a gun, explaining that one's opponent will not always use the same weapon(s) you use.
  • Never Got to Say Goodbye: Irina feels this way regarding Issei's death. Fortunately, in Chapter 37, Yuuji creates a walkie-talkie so the fragment of Issei's soul residing within his Sacred Gear can talk to her, thus giving them both some closure.
  • No-Sell: Gasper's time-stopping Sacred Gear has no effect on Yuuji's, though it does affect the rest of his body.
  • Not So Above It All: The normally stoic and unfailingly polite Grafia calls Katerea Leviathan a "cheap, worthless relic."
  • Oh, Crap!: The Khaos devils can only sweat in mortal terror when Irina summons the Archangel Uriel.
  • Porn with Plot: More the latter than the former, but once the ecchi scenes roll in, they pop up with increasing regularity. Lampshaded at the end of Chapter 21.
Curse of Whimsy: "As an aside, I'm having fun interjecting worrying pieces of foreshadowing between all the fluff and sexiness. It's like a friendly little reminder that the M-rating isn't just for all the lemons."
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
    • After the fight with Viser, Yuuji castigates the rest of the Occult Research Club for treating the mission like a field trip. He explains that such a situation is not the proper time to deliver a lecture about stray devils, and that said strays will fight dirty all the time. Rias does take his words to heart and apologizes, and Yuuji quiets down and also apologizes for being harsh on her.
    • In Chapter 15, he berates Kuroka for running away when her sister needed her most, and urges her not to throw away her chance to fix her mistake.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: After Yuuji unintentionally offends Akeno, she jokingly demands a kiss as an apology in the hopes of flustering him. Instead, he complies, much to her shock.
  • Ship Tease: Between Koneko and Gasper.
  • Soul Jar: A small fragment of Issei's soul is contained within Yuuji's Sacred Gear.
  • Smug Snake: Diodora Astaroth is a pompous, rapacious little shit.
  • Spared By Adaptation: Raynare and Kalawarner, thanks to a Heel–Face Turn, survive their encounter with the Occult Research Club.
  • Their First Time:
    • Yuuji takes Akeno's virginity in Chapter 7.
    • He has sex with Rias in Chapter 13.
    • After some initial hesitation, he fucks Raynare in Chapter 21.
Raynare: "Fuck that... no, better yet Yuuji, fuck me."
    • With Chapter 23 comes Kalawarner's turn.
    • Xenovia's turn comes in Chapter 29.
    • Asia has her turn in Chapter 36, though it's mostly off-screen.
    • The subsequent chapter has Yuuji roll around with Kuroka.
  • The Tease: JB enjoys making jokes about Yuuji's love life.
  • Three-Way Sex: Yuuji has a menage a trois with Rias and Akeno at the end of Chapter 18.
  • Through His Stomach: Akeno's first attempt at scoring points with Yuuji involves utilizing her cooking skills to make lunches for him.
  • Tsundere: Yuuji is a male example. Raynare explicitly labels him as such in Chapter 15.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Yuuji goes utterly berserk at the end of Chapter 34 after Shalba Beelebub pushes his buttons way too many times.
  • Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny: Defied. When facing off against Vali Lucifer, Yuuji refuses to engage in the big showdown that Vali was expecting, because he knows he'd lose if he did. Rather, he decides to Just Shoot Him.
  • Walking Wasteland: Sirzechs Lucifer is a literal physical manifestation of the Power of Destruction, and only an ungodly mastery of shield magic and self-control keep those around him from being completely destroyed just by being near him. This is why he and Grayfia aren't in a relationship in this story, nor do they have any children.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Yuuji catches Kuroka trying to leave in Chapter 15. He calls her out on trying to abandon Koneko again and convinces her to stay.
  • When He Smiles: As noted by Serafall in Chapter 26, Yuuji frequently smirks, but rarely smiles, thus examples of the latter are important.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Whenever one character gets down, the supporting cast are there and ready to prop them back up using this trope.
  • You Remind Me of X: Yuuji tells Rossweisse that she reminds him of someone he knows.
