The Omnitrix Hero is a fanfic written by Banshee531. It is a Fusion Fic between the My Little Pony: Equestria Girls and Ben 10 franchises.

Flash Sentry has always just wanted to help people, but due to magic existing in his world, he has constantly found his efforts overshadowed by the likes of The Rainbooms. Just as he is ready to accept he isn't cut out to be a hero like them, his whole life changes when a pod crashes down from space one night, and a device inside it, the Omnitrix, attaches itself to his arm. Now, with the help of some close friends, Flash is ready to use the Omnitrix to do some real good and step out of just being a "side character".

It was officially completed on January 26, 2024, with the series planned to eventually continue with several sequels.

The Omnitrix Hero provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Flash Sentry was just a normal student in canon, with no actual magic or abilities of his own. The closest he got to the action was in "Cheer You On" when he recovered Sunset's geode for her when it was knocked off so she and the Rainbooms could save the day again. Here though, he obtains the Omnitrix, turning him into a Swiss-Army Hero and One-Man Army, able to take on multiple dangerous threats.
    • Trixie is far more action-oriented than her canon counterpart, who was a Miles Gloriosus and Cowardly Lion. Here, she can keep up with Shining in taking down the Sen-Trees, purely due to her experience with video games.
  • Adaptational Context Change: Flash goes through similar events that Ben did in the canon series, but sometimes with different aliens.
    • In "Crystal Clarity", an adaptation of "Hunted", Flash defeats Kraab and SixSix by using Goop instead of Grey Matter, who wasn't in this series yet.
    • In "The Hunt is On", an adaptation of "The Alliance", because Flash doesn't have Upgrade, he turns into Vapaw to defeat Dynamo and ends up seeing a vision of Vilgax when Dynamo tries hacking the Omnitrix while he's still transformed.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • Goop, Chamalien, and Molestache were all aliens that Ben unlocked in different Sequel Series after the original show, whereas here they are each included as part of Flash's original 10 aliens.
    • In canon, Ben got Feedback, a Conductoid, when he was eleven, at some point after Ben 10: Destroy All Aliens. Here, a group of Conductoids appear early on as antagonists for Flash to face.
    • In canon, Arctiguana, a Polar Manzardill, made his debut as one of the aliens of Ben 10,000 before Ben himself eventually obtained him during Ultimate Alien. Here, a criminal Polar Manzardill, Gelidafur, makes an appearance in in the first season. And in the second season, the Omnitrix samples Gelidafur's DNA, allowing Flash to become Arctiguana.
    • In canon, Bloxx, Pesky Dust, and The Worst were all unlocked during Omniverse. Here, Flash obtains them as additional aliens in the second season.
  • Adaptational Late Appearance:
    • In canon, Heatblast and Ripjaws were both part of Ben's original 10 aliens. They are absent at the start here, not being part of Flash's own original 10 aliens, but members of both their species, Magisters Fuego and Glug, eventually appear in "Ice to Meet You".
    • Grey Matter, another of Ben's original 10 aliens, is absent from the start here, but is eventually unlocked in "Freeze Ups and Melt Downs".
    • Upgrade was another one of the original ten aliens that was absent from the start here, before finally appearing in "Digital Dilemma" after Flash's future self unlocked the form for him in "From Time to Time".
  • Adaptational Secrecy Downgrade: In the original Ben 10 series, Ben was able to keep his Secret Identity for six years until he was eventually outed at the start of Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. While his secret was revealed to a select few individuals besides Gwen, Grandpa Max, and a few villains like Vilgax, it wasn't a regular occurrence for him before he was permanently exposed. Here however, Flash is much worse at keeping the Omnitrix a secret. Trixie was with him when he first got the Omnitrix, making her his primary confidant, before Shining Armor finds out about it in the second chapter after seeing Flash revert to normal. The first "Season Finale" has not just Vilgax learning Flash's identity, but all of the Rainbooms too after they begin piecing some evidence together. Then in Season 2 it is practically a Running Gag for Flash to have his secret revealed to someone throughout the season, with his secret identity only staying safe due to those that learned either suffering Laser-Guided Amnesia, dying via Heroic Sacrifice before they could tell anyone, or becoming a new Secret-Keeper. This eventually culminates in Vilgax revealing Flash's secret to the entire world when he makes his return, only a few months after he first got the Omnitrix as opposed to it taking Ben six years.
  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Viral is a "fell in love with her creator" variety. She fell in love with Micro Chips and thus tried to find body for herself to be with him forever, becoming a dangerous Yandere to anyone who tried to separate the two of them.
  • Alternate Universe Fic: The series takes place in one where aliens exist in the Equestria Girls world, and Flash obtains the Omnitrix instead of Ben Tennyson.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: Sonata gives one to Adagio in "A Dazzling Dispute" when The Dazzlings are driving to their commercial shoot, when Adagio asks what was so bad about the old her due to everything she was able to do and why it would be so bad if she acted like that again. Sonata just says none of that ever made her happy, not like hanging out with Flash and his friends has.
  • Ascended Extra:
    • Flash Sentry is just a minor supporting character in the Equestria Girls series, but here he is The Hero and main focus.
    • This also applies to Trixie and Shining Armor, the two main members of Flash's team. This applies even more to Shining Armor, since in canon he only had a single scene in Friendship Games before disappearing from the series entirely, while here his characterization and home-life are more fleshed out. Trixie is a lesser example since she was already a main supporting character who became a secondary antagonist in Rainbow Rocks and later became Sunset's Number Two in Forgotten Friendship; but here she is one of the main characters, being Flash's closest confidant and the first one to learn about the Omnitrix after he gets it.
  • Babysitting Episode: "Ten Aliens and a Baby" focuses on Flash Sentry babysitting Flurry Heart for Shining Armor last minute.
  • Bad Future: The future that Flash visits in "From Time to Time" initially seems like a great future, including aliens living on Earth with humans, humanity expanding across the universe, and lots of advanced technology. But then Flash sees how bitter and abrasive his future self has become, learns of all the horrible things that have happened to his friends, and finds out it all started with Shining Armor's death. Flash prevents this future from happening by saving Shining Armor's life, thus leaving to an uncertain timeline.
  • Being Good Sucks: Flash's hero-ing causes him to run late or outright miss band practice with his band, Flash Drive, several times, and when it causes him to miss an important concert he is kicked out of the band.
  • Big Bad: Vilgax is the overarching villain of the first season, being a galactic warlord who desires the Omnitrix's power and Earth's conquest by his hand.
  • Birthday Episode: "Birthday Bash" is on Flurry Heart's very first birthday.
  • Catching the Speedster: Kraab catches Rainbow Dash while she is using her Super-Speed by firing a white goop that Rainbow ends up running into that covers her legs and instantly hardens into a concrete-like substance. He claims she isn't the first speeder he's dealt with either, apparently having dealt with kinecelerans in the past.
  • Chained to a Bed: Non-romantic example. After Shining Armor sees Flash transform from an alien back into a human, he takes him to an old abandoned apartment building and handcuffs him to a metal bed so he can't reach the watch and interrogates him. After Shining leaves to try to stop Animac, Flash manages to free himself by activating the watch with one of the headboard's bars on the bed and transforming into Goop.
  • Clingy MacGuffin: The Omnitrix serves as this just like it did in the original series. It binds with Flash's DNA and is seemingly indestructible to conventional tools for removal. It takes incredibly powerful alien tech to forcefully remove it, all of which tend to be very painful to Flash. Cutting off his arm is also an option for removing it, which he and his friends wish to avoid at all costs. This is then Averted once Azmuth is introduced. He demonstrates he can easily remove the Omnitrix from Flash whenever he wants to and has threatened to do so if Flash ever misuses the Omnitrix or if the Earth's leaders disobey his orders and try to either take the Omnitrix away from Flash or create their own versions of it.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: When news of Flash saving people with the Omnitrix breaks out, Shining voices his mistrust of the aliens, having a wild conspiracy theory that they're trying to lower their guard so they can kidnap people undetected and send them back to Earth as pigs.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: When he's kidnapped by the Conductoids, Shining mentions that they wouldn't need to aggressively invade Earth to refuel on cosmic storms, stating that they could just ask. The Conductoids explain that they averted this route because they distrust humanity with upholding their bargains.
  • Crossover Power Acquisition: The premise of the fic is that the Omnitrix and all its powers came into the possession of Flash Sentrynote
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • Though the exact details are unknown, Vilgax declares in the first chapter that Max Tennyson isn't alive to protect the Earth from him this time, meaning that something happened to Max in this setting whereas he was alive and well in the canon series. It is eventually fully revealed that Tirek was the one who murdered him, shooting him in the back so he could steal the alien technology and spaceship they had discovered for himself.
    • It is hinted at by Azmuth that his student Albedo, who was a recurring antagonist in the original series, is dead here. This is later confirmed when he explains to Flash's parents how Albedo died a long time ago because Azmuth tried to keep him safe during an emergency instead of letting him help.
  • Demoted to Extra: The story takes place in the Equestria Girls universe, but the Rainbooms are recurring characters rather than the main focus.
  • Documentary Episode: The "Behind the Alien" chapters are styled as nature documentaries. They explore the planets that Flash's Original Character aliens come from, showing their way of life and how they survive in their daily lives, as well as showing a few other aliens that live on the same planet as them.
  • Do Not Adjust Your Set:
    • When Vilgax makes his return to Earth in "The Invasion of Canterlot", the first thing he does is hijack the broadcasting signals of every device in the world. He not only announces his invasion and goal, he reveals Flash's secret to the whole world, demanding Flash surrender the Omnitrix to him or he will destroy every city on the planet one by one until he has it.
    • In the Season 4 finale Shadow has his drones broadcast his fight with Flash, Trixie, and Shining Armor to all of Canterlot, intending to let everyone watch as he beats the last heroes standing and crush the last of their hope. Instead, it backfires on him when he finds himself losing the fight.
  • Expy:
    • Flash Sentry is a stand-in for Ben Tennyson, being the main protagonist and wielder of the Omnitrix.
    • Trixie Lullamoon fulfills the role of Gwen Tennyson, being the closest female companion to Flash's Ben.
    • With Max Tennyson dead in this series, Shining Armor fills in his role as the older companion who helps Flash defend the planet.
    • As his name implies, Animac is based off of Aloysius Animo, both being mad scientists who perform experiments on animals to mutate them into hostile monsters.
    • The role of Jonah Melville is passed to Cedar Oakheart, both being the heads of fraudulent environmental agencies who are exploiting natural creatures for their own greedy means.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Flash and Shining start off on the wrong foot, as the latter mistrusts the dangerous capabilities of the Omnitrix in the hands of a teenager. However, when they work together to take down Animac, they become personal friends and partners in defending the planet.
  • Fountain of Youth: After her watch is infected by Equestrian magic, Doddery is able to steal the age of living things and transfer them to something else. She uses this ability to make herself young again, and heads out to make all elders in town young while turning all the "bratty" kids and teens old.
  • From Zero to Hero: Flash starts the story as just a regular student as in canon, with him constantly being outshined by The Rainbooms and unable to even get a cat down from a tree. After getting the Omnitrix though, he quickly becomes a hero like he's always wanted to be, with his alien forms all quickly becoming famous and popular throughout town, including CHS. This is then extended to Flash himself from Season 3 onwards, after Vilgax reveals his Secret Identity to the whole world, with Flash slowly becoming the most famous hero in the world,
  • Gotta Catch Them All: Trixie's main arc of the series is to gather all twelve of the magic Medallions scattered around Canterlot before Devious can obtain them for himself, and return them to their rightful kingdoms that Devious stole them from.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Tirek in addition to being the Season 3 Big Bad; has had a lot of indirect effects on the story. He was the one who killed Max Tennyson thus preventing the births of Ben and Gwen Tennyson and making Vilgax think that Earth would be easier to invade than his first attempt. Plus technology made possible by the innovations to Earth’s made by Tirek’s company (using reverse engineered alien tech) ended up being used by Animac, Negatine and Oakheart.
  • Hate Plague: A more specific one is unleashed in "Love Lost" by Devious and Chrysalis. Combining some of Devious' magic with some science chemicals, they create an "anti-love potion" and disperse it throughout Canterlot with some aerial dispersal devices from Chrysalis' company. This causes everyone in the city to suddenly feel intense hatred for whoever it is they love the most. However, their feelings towards everyone else remain unchanged, allowing Twilight to create a cure. This also reveals Flash and Adagio don't consider each other the most important people to each other, nor does Twilight consider Timber this, which leads to both couples breaking up.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Flash and Shining are close partners in defending Earth from hostile aliens, but the latter is still married to Cadance in this continuity.
  • Humongous Mecha: The first antagonist fought by Flash is a twelve meter tall, mantis-like robot sent by Vilgax to retrieve the Omnitrix.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Ringo and Brawly berate Flash for repeatedly neglecting his band duties and for good reason. His absence is dragging the band's chances of success down and Flash's removal is the only option left when he misses out on their charity event.
  • Last-Second Word Swap: After Diamondhead destroys the mantis-like robot, Trixie excitedly cheers "way to go Fla...ashy...diamond...headed guy," almost blowing Flash's secret before catching herself.
  • Long-Distance Relationship: Twilight and Timber Spruce are in one, due to him living outside of Canterlot. She explains how this can be difficult at times in "Birthday Bash".
  • Master of Illusion: The Luna Cat Medallion grants it’s wielded the ability to create illusions of anything they envision.
  • Mistaken for Romance: Because Flash and Trixie start hanging out with each other more often after Flash gets the Omnitrix, the Rainbooms assume that their newfound closeness can only be due to them dating, but chose not to confront them about it. When they catch the two kissing a few episodes later (Trixie needed to distract him so a bunch of mind-reading monsters wouldn't be able to find him), and they interrupt Flash's explanation to reveal that they've known that the duo has been a couple for a while, the pair laughs themselves silly at the thought and state they wouldn't be caught dead dating each other, before catching the girls up to speed on the aforementioned monsters.
  • My Future Self and Me: When Flash is accidentally brought twenty years into the future, he meets his future self. Though the older Flash initially wants nothing to do with his younger self, the two eventually work together to defeat a resurrected Vilgax.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: Oakheart and the Sen-Trees are rude and kick out the human visitors in a forest, but they appear to be concerned about humanity's impact on the environment. It later turns out that their outspoken intentions were a front for them to use the environment as a dumping ground.
  • Outside-Context Problem: The Rainbooms deal with plenty of magical threats, but they are completely unprepared against aliens. Vilgax's drone almost kills them before Diamondhead shows up and manages to save them and fight it off.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Trixie is Flash's closest confidant in the series, but the two of them claim there is no romantic interest between them, and even laugh at the idea of them dating each other.
  • Post-Kiss Catatonia: This is invoked by Trixie in "Bloodsuckers". She figures out that part of the reason the frog monsters that are chasing Flash keep finding him is because they have a partly psychic link to him and can read his mind. She speculates that he might be able to lose them if he stops thinking, and when Flash starts saying he can't just shut his brain off on command, Trixie surprises him by pulling him into a kiss, shocking him enough to get him to stop thinking. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for long due to the Rainbooms walking by and spotting them, with Flash getting his thoughts back enough to push Trixie away and claim it is Not What It Looks Like.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: The invading Conductoids mention finding a planet where they can refuel their ships, but they decided not to invade because it was inhabited by the far stronger To'kustars.
  • Prefer Jail to the Protagonist:
    • Played for Laughs when some crooks, after getting sprayed by U-Reek-Ah, throw themselves to the police outside the bank they tried to rob and immediately surrender, begging to be arrested just to get away from U-Reek-Ah.
    • Played for Horror the first time Flash uses Ghostfreak. He subjects a bomber to a brutal No-Holds-Barred Beatdown, including threatening to drop him from the sky. This completely terrifies to criminal, with the narration of the story itself briefly referring to him as Ghostfreak's "victim" before going back to "opponent". The bomb eventually throws himself at Shining's feet giving up, begging him to get him away from that "monster". This all serves as early foreshadowing to Ghostfreak's true evil nature.
  • Pro Wrestling Episode: The chapter "Ready to Rumble" revolves around Flash being challenged by the wrestler Iron Will and facing him in a match to try to get the Iron Bull Medallion from him.
  • Puppeteer Parasite: Ghostfreak takes control of Flash's body when he's sleeping one night and single-handedly defeats all six of the villains that have teamed up in complete silence.
  • Removing the Crucial Teammate: Ringo and Brawly eventually kick Flash out of the band due to being unable to rely on him anymore with him always running late and missing a very important performance. When the Rainbooms run into them at the Fall Formal though they say they are not doing so good, since not only are they still looking for a replacement for Flash, they are essentially starting over from scratch since Flash wrote their old songs and they can't use them without him.
  • Resolved Noodle Incident: Since the start of the story, multiple characters have mentioned the death of Max Tennyson, but it was never explained how he died. Season 3 eventually reveals he was murdered by his partner, Tirek, getting shot in the back by him so Tirek can steal the alien ship they found and reverse-engineer the alien tech on it.
  • Rogues Gallery: Flash has confronted many villains from the Ben 10 franchise, including Vilgax.
  • A Rotten Time to Revert: Due to the timer on the Omnitrix's transformations, Flash is constantly trying to do what he needs to do and get away from any onlookers as fast as possible. He is often caught flatfooted when he starts to change back to normal while facing an enemy before he can completely defeat them. Often times he is also victim of the inverse of this trope, where he wants to turn back to normal but can't, and is forced to wait for the Omnitrix to time out.
  • Running Gag: Similar to what happened to Ben Tennyson in his home series, the Omnitrix frequently gives Flash a different alien than the one he wanted, and Flash speaking his annoyance at getting the wrong alien.
  • Sailor Earth: Half of Flash's aliens are original characters, including a blue lizard creature who can shoot lightning (Volt-Edge), a smoke-expelling lion (Vapaw), a giant insect that can shoot fire and spit sticky goop (Firefly), a humanoid rhino (Riot-Horn), and a vine-like alien (Bushwhacker).
  • Secret-Keeper: Flash gains several over the course of the first two seasons.
    • Trixie becomes his first confidant with the Omnitrix, since she was there when he first got it and saw him transform. In the second chapter, Shining Armor becomes his second after he discovers Flash's secret and Flash earns his trust.
    • During the Season 1 finale, the Rainbooms all learn Flash's secret when Vilgax changes him back to normal in front of them, and keep his secret going forward.
    • Played With when Flash needs to go alien while babysitting Flurry Heart in "Ten Aliens and a Baby". It is unclear if Flurry understands that Flash's alien forms are all him, but even if she did she's not really capable of telling anyone if she wanted to due to only being a little older than one year.
    • In "Hot Rods and Hot Dates", Timber Spruce and Adagio Dazzle learn Flash's secret when he transforms back to normal while unconscious. Timber only agrees to keep his secret because Twilight begs him to, but Adagio is much more willing to since she finds keeping secrets more fun than telling everyone.
    • Prince Aareus learns when he returns to their dimension in "Return of the Masquerade". Trixie points out how he is from another universe he can't really reveal this to anyone they know anyway, so they can trust him.
    • In "The Visitor" Principal Cadance finds out about not only Flash's double-life, but her husband's and Trixie's too. After a heated discussion with Shining about how he lied to her for months, she ultimately agrees to keep their secret.
    • In "Taking Flight" Flash ends up transforming back to normal in front of Fleetfoot after discovering she is Icarus. Trixie offers Fleetfoot a spot on their team, but even after Fleetfoot gives up her powers, everyone still trusts her to keep their secret identities.
    • Ultimately though, these are all rendered moot when Vilgax returns in "The Invasion of Canterlot", and immediately reveals Flash's secret to the entire world while hijacking all the broadcasting signals in the world, demanding Flash give him the Omnitrix and delivering his ultimatum if he refuses.
  • Shapeshifter Showdown: The climax of "Good Copy, Bad Copy" has Flash and Shadow fight each other while constantly transforming into different alien forms. It eventually gets to the point where it is impossible for either the characters or readers to tell who is which alien, and even when they both time out at the same time and return to normal they try to continue the fight in human form.
  • Skewed Priorities:
    • When the Rainbooms start to suspect that Flash is somehow connected to the alien heroes, Twilight tries to question Volt-Edge on it while he is in the middle of a battle with Vilgax's drones.
    • Adagio, while in the middle of her bad diva attitude, constantly orders Flash to drive her and her sisters around to their various photo shoots. When Flash ends up battling the Equestrian Dragon Hybrid on their way to a commercial shoot, she constantly yells at Flash to stop fooling around and finish it. When Flash later says he needs to go after it to stop it from hurting anyone, Adagio is more concerned about him not driving them to the shoot, even when Aria and Sonata both agree how dangerous the hybrid could be if it's anything like the dragons from Equestria.
  • Smug Snake: Oakheart is so assured about his plan to ruin the local forest that he gloats about it, which comes back to bite him when when it's revealed that Trixie and Shining recorded his speech and use it as evidence to have him arrested.
  • Stumbling in the New Form: When Flash Sentry first obtains a new alien form, Lindwhirl, he has a hard time just standing as it due to it lacking any legs.
  • Stunned Silence: This is Trixie's initial reaction when she sees Flash transform for the very first time. This lasts until he speaks directly to her, and she proceeds to have a minor Freak Out, running away while screaming terrified, and only calming down when Flash assures her it's him.
  • Super-Persistent Predator: The frog monsters in "Bloodsuckers" get a sample of Flash's blood and spend the rest of the chapter hunting him down, trying to drain him dry of all his blood to continue to reproduce themselves into an army. The link they have with him due to his blood is partly psychic, meaning they can read his mind and find him wherever he hides, and they copy the abilities of his aliens whenever he transforms (as long as the alien in question actually has blood) making them even more dangerous.
  • Transformation Name Announcement: Flash starts doing this in Season 3, similar to how Ben did in Alien Force and Ultimate Alien. He does this at Trixie's suggestion after his secret identity is revealed to the world as a way to terrify his enemies and everyone he's saving will know exactly who is saving them.
  • Victor Gains Loser's Powers: After defeating Shadow and saving Canterlot from his attempt to overload the Plumber base's power core, Flash steals his Ultimatrix's core to replace the Omnitrix's, turning Flash's Omnitrix into the Ultimatrix and granting Flash access to Ultimate Alien forms.
  • Wake Up, Go to School & Save the World: Deconstructed. Flash's heroics put a considerable strain on his working relationship with the other bandmates of Flash Drive, as he's forced to miss their practices so he can save the world. When Flash stops the Conductoids, he misses out on a charity event that his band was supposed to play at, costing the community and Flash Drive's chance to get a record deal, which is the final straw for the band to kick him out.
  • Wham Episode: "Revelations", serving as the first Season Finale, has Flash and Vilgax meet face to face for the first time, and the Rainbooms learning Flash's secret as the alien heroes.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: Flash spending more time as an alien hero causes him to run late or outright miss band practice with his bandmates Ringo and Brawly. After it causes him to miss an important concert, they kick him out of the band completely, and although he is saddened by this he still believes he made the right decision, since if he hadn't then Shining would have been kidnapped by conductoids and the whole city would be stuck in a blackout.
  • Worldbuilding: The "Behind the Alien" chapters are entirely dedicated to building the backgrounds of Flash's aliens and the planets they come from.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: In "Power Outage", the Omnitrix is timed out so Flash can't changed into XLR8 and quickly make it to Canterlot's theater where a very important concert his band is playing at is taking place. Shining Armor gives him a lift there, and as soon as they arrive the Omnitrix finally turns green, indicating it is ready to be used again. Flash just gives a frustrated "Seriously?" at this.
