The Old Life, Alive Again
is one of the many Kingdom Hearts fanfics that revolve around Organization XIII, though it's mostly a love story between Roxas and Xion. This fanfic was written before Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance] came out, so there are many things contradicting current game canon.
Roxas wishes every thing in Organization XIII would go back the way it was... but he never expected that would actually happen! Now he has to keep himself sane as he goes through all the trials his wish brings.
This work contains examples of:
- Back from the Dead: The entire premise of this fanfic is that all the Nobodies that die throughout the event of Days (Vexen, Lexaeus, Zexion, Marluxia, Larxene and especially Xion) are revived, courtesy of Genie.
- Big Bad: Depending on your definition of Big Bad, either Xemnas, Xigbar, or the Heartless.
- Elopement: This is basically what Roxas and Xion do when Axel warns them that Xemnas, Xigbar and Saix were planning to kill Xion. The two basically run away so they can live together.
- Foregone Conclusion: Since Namine stated that she no longer needed to take Sora's memories from Xion, Sora will still awaken and destroy the Organization, save Roxas and Xion, who will live their lives in Twilight Town as if nothing happened.
- Green-Eyed Monster:
- Namine is this towards Xion during her stay in The World That Never Was, since Roxas, Sora's Nobody, loved Xion, an Opposite-Sex Clone of him, instead of Namine, Kairi's Nobody. She got better.
- Marluxia is this towards Axel, due to Larxene's feelings for Axel. Unlike Namine, he didn't get better.
- Idiot Ball: Both Xemnas and Xigbar are victim to this. When Xigbar tells Xemnas that Roxas and Xion's love was getting in the way of the Organization's goal, Xemnas didn't bother to ask Roxas and Xion about their side of the story. When Xigbar tells Xemnas and Saix about his plan to kill Xion, he doesn't bother to make sure no one listens to them, allowing Axel to learn about his plan. The result: Roxas and Xion predictably run away from the Organization.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: Xemnas told Genie to make everyone in the Organization forget they ever died and make Roxas believe Xion's death was All Just a Dream. However, the Organization members do ocassionally hallucinate their deaths, and Xion does find out about her death from Genie himself.
- Manipulative Bastard: Xigbar. Not approving of Roxas and Xion's relationship with each other, since it's nothing but Screw Yourself in his eyes, he starts making their love life be everyone's business, in order to cover up his plans to forcibly break them up. When Namine comes into picture, Xigbar manipulates Marluxia into manipulating Namine into stealing Roxas's memories of Xion. When that failed, Xigbar kidnaps Xion to screw over her and Roxas's missions, prompting Xemnas to secretly order Xion's death. He fails, but only because Axel decide to warn Xion about it.
- Mythology Gag: In the Kingdom Hearts Days manga, Roxas and Xion discuss running away from the Organization. They actually do it here.
- Near-Villain Victory: Xigbar would have succeeded into breaking Roxas and Xion up if Axel wouldn't have warned them about his plans.
- Official Couple: Roxas and Xion. Axel and Larxene acts as a Beta Couple.
- Pet the Dog: Xemnas did allow Roxas and Xion's relationship to go on, as long as they keep up their work. Ultimately deconstructed, since Xigbar took advantage of this condition.
- Poor Communication Kills: Axel, Roxas and Xion had a fallout when Axel fails to show for ice cream. Fortunately, they made up when Axel warns Roxas and Xion that Xemnas, Xigbar and Saix were planning to kill Xion.
- Small Role, Big Impact: The entire fanfic was started up by Genie, thanks to him granting a wish by Roxas that brings every Nobody back to life.
- Spared By Adaptation: Since Sora's awakening and the Organization's destruction is a Foregone Conclusion, this is the case with Roxas in this universe's version of Kingdom Hearts 2.
