Dr. Awesomeness and Mr. Garnet demonstrate the vibe.
The LG NiiVerse is a Looming Gaia fanfic universe created by Niittinaatti. It mostly focuses on the original characters and the shenanigans they get into, usually not being as serious as the original series. It mostly centers on the "Lab Buds": Dr. Awesomeness, a "crappy budget minervae" and Zareen Empire's resident cartoonishly evil scientist, Mr. Garnet, her more sensible dworfen lab assistant and a divorced dad, and Yue Rolek, a crabby divine elfenne responsible for minervae-izing Awesomeness, who mostly travels around and makes monsters but sometimes comes to visit.
Provides examples of
- Abled in the Adaptation: Unintentionally due to it being Outdated by Canon, but in the end of "Itchy: Amazing Tales", Tep, Qara, and Awesomeness have their Crescent Cult masks removed and their eyes are perfectly intact, while later canon would establish that the masks destroy the eyeballs of those they parasitize, including Tep's.
- Adopted into Royalty: The Redfox king and queen adopted Penhoven to be the heir to their throne due to them not being able to have children due to being different species.
- Amicable Exes: Mr. Garnet and Vanella are divorced, but still on good terms and their kids visit him every other weekend.
- Appearance Angst:
- Yue thinks that her eyes are an ugly shade of green and always wears red contact lenses.
- Maleena thinks that her nose is ugly and draws herself with a "cool manga nose".
- Badly Battered Babysitter: The story of how Dr. Awesomeness ended up at the Royal Gala in "The Dr. Awesomeness Fighting Amber Saga" is that her boss Qara forced her to babysit her daughter Emli, who needs to be wrangled around on a leash and punches and bites multiple people when Trista gets a bigger serving of ice cream than her, and drives Awesomeness so mad that she eventually resorts to attacking the nearest person (Amber) with a lightsaber. Though later it was decided that Emli is actually a grown woman when this takes place, she’s just such a Womanchild that she needs a babysitter.
- Bad People Abuse Animals: Josefrollop is so cartoonishly evil that his favorite food is living cats.
- Ballroom Blitz: The Dr. Awesomeness Fighting Amber Saga happens at a High Royal Gala, which as its name implies is a fancy event for royalty.
- Big Little Sister: Helena is a lot taller than her older half-sister Strata.
- Big Sister Bully: Yue was violent towards her little sister Curlinita if she bothered her and once even stabbed her for going in her room.
- Big, Thin, Short Trio: The "lab buds": Dr. Awesomeness is big (slightly shorter than Yue, but less skinny), Yue is thin, and Mr. Garnet is short.
- Blinded by the Light: How Amber defeats Awesomeness: She snatches her goggles off and casts a photomancy spell on her very sensitive eyeballs.
- Color-Coded Characters: The Vrinsa family members are always shown mostly wearing one color: Molsa in blue, Cresti in yellow, Noros in orange, Satara in purple and Valerie in green.
- Commonality Connection: Maleena attempts this with Ignatius due to them both missing an arm (Maleena was born with only one and Ignatius lost one to a woodchipper) but it doesn't work out due to Maleena's tendency to shoot people with water guns not mixing well with Ignatius' anger issues.
- Compulsive Liar: One of Yue's monsters is a small winged green fuzzball named Broccoli, who she tried to make only able to tell the truth like fae to make talking to it easier, but screwed up and now it's only able to speak lies.
- Confused Question Mark: Amber has several floating over her head when Dr. Awesomeness attacks her with a lightsaber.
- Covered with Scars:
- Yue has scars all over her body from her adventures dealing with dangerous animals, though she got all of them before even becoming a divine since her body resets to that point when she dies.
- Noros on the other hand has a lot of scars from being dared to do stupid things, like kissing a wild raccoon or whittle with the knife pointed towards him, though he tries to impress people by lying about how he got them.
- Denser and Wackier: These characters get into a lot sillier situations than canon Looming Gaia characters and without as much drama.
- Did You Just Romance Cthulhu?: Yue was married to an incubus named Beetles early in her divinity, because "why would she marry a person like a normie", though for him it was just a way to have a consistent food source.
- Discriminate and Switch: One strip has Ster be upset about how Ignatius is dressed, but it turns out that his problem isn't that he dresses like a girl, but that he's not dressed in Red and Black and Evil All Over.
- Early Installment Character-Design Difference: In "Itchy: Amazing Tales" and some old art, Dr. Awesomeness has grey rectangular goggles, less spiky hair, yellow gloves, and a slightly different coat.
- Embarrassing Tattoo: When Yue is transmuting Vanella into an elf, she finds her so annoying that she gives her an “edgy” spider tattoo that looks very out of place on her and convinces her that it’s an actual spider that got on her arm and got fused into her by the spell. The first spell Vanella learns is an illusion to cover it up. This is a Mythology Gag, as Vanella's old design had a spider tattoo which the creator describes as "edgy" and "totally ruining her color scheme".
- Even Evil Has Standards: Dr. Awesomeness draws the line on making maenads (actually monsters) out of AI art, and when Yue makes one for a Zareenite CEO, Awesomeness breaks into the room and shoots everyone dead, including Yue.
- Everyone Is Related: Nearly every elven Original Character is one of Curlinita's descendants, meaning Ohto and Ignatius, Strata and Helena, Ster, Vindia, Cresti and Valerie, and Casio are distant cousins and Yue is their many times great-aunt.
- Expressive Shirt: Zepio put a curse on Yue and Curlinita and all of their descendants where any clothing or accessories they wear that has a face will have the expression change sometimes, mostly according to their mood but sometimes totally opposite. This is mostly shown with Yue's skull shirt and Curlinita's eyepatch.
- Extra Digits: Strata has 13 fingers and Helena has six toes on each foot. Their respective fathers apparently also had them, but had theirs removed as kids.
- Extreme Omnivore: Yue is the "Unpicky Eater" variant, as she sometimes eats something inedible or even lethal just to see what it tastes like, as she will just resurrect if she dies.
- Eye Scream: Thanks to Yue botching her eyes while transforming her into a minervae, Dr. Awesomeness’ eyes are permanently red and bloodshot and with constantly constricted pupils, and so sensitive to light she can’t see anything without her black goggles. Additionally, in "The Dr. Awesomeness Fighting Amber Saga", Amber incapacitates her by casting a light spell into her eyes, and then Awesomeness just tears her eyes out to make them grow back.
- Lampshaded in "🅱️itchy: 🅱️amazing 🅱️ales" where when she is being parasitized by a Crescent mask, which in canon destroy the eyeballs of their victims, she says "This is only like the third worst thing to happen to my eyeballs".
- Eyes Out of Sight: Dr. Awesomeness always wears goggles with Opaque Lenses due to Yue screwing up while transmuting her and making her eyes very sensitive to light.
- Fashionable Asymmetry: Yue has a red gemstone earring on only her left ear.
- Film Fic: "Itchy: Amazing Tales" is a shortened version of Rolli – Amazing Tales re-enacted by Looming Gaia characters (and Dr. Awesomeness).
- Freudian Excuse: Mr. Garnet joined an evil scientific organization because when he was a child, other kids bullied him for his comically large bowtie.
- Friends with Benefits:
- Helena and Saku are described as such, and they regularly have sex but don't want to commit to a closer relationship.
- Zirgalei's parents are just roommates who have sex for fun and ended up having a child by accident.
- Generation Xerox: Yue and her great-something-niece Helena are both tall, grumpy loners with shaggy hair and one pointy canine that sticks out, and both have names related to celestial bodies and make a career from being Nightmare Fetishists.
- Gleeful and Grumpy Pairing:
- Yue's sister Curlinita looks mad in most pictures of her like most of their family, and her husband Perkoill is always shown grinning, even when doing somewhat questionable things like trying to hit Curlinita with a stick to make her give birth faster.
- Cresti and Molsa are also usually shown looking sunny and tired, respectively.
- Ham and Deadpan Duo: Dr. Awesomeness often dramatically shouts things while her lab assistant Mr. Garnet talks more calmly and often looks mildly annoyed with her.Garnet: I'm just saying Doc, that hair is a safety hazard.
Awesomeness (with her hair on fire): WHO FUCKING ASKED - Head Pet: Strata lets their pet gryphon Umbra stand on their head.
- Height Angst: Despite being nearly seven feet tall, Dr. Awesomeness is self-conscious about being shorter than most minervae and Yue.
- Held Back in School: Juccadamias got held back at school a couple of times, and now he's on the same class as his younger brother Langs. They try to hide them being related from the other kids at first, but the others quickly figure it out.
- Hereditary Curse: A very benign one: Yue and Curlinita had their bloodlines cursed to have any clothing or accessories any of them wear randomly change the expression on any pictures of faces on them.
- Improbable Hairstyle: Dr. Awesomeness is a scientist often working with dangerous substances with big spiky hair that she never ties up. It’s lampshaded on one drawing, where Mr. Garnet is telling her that her hair is a safety hazard and she tells him to shut up, even though her hair is on fire.
- Ironic Name: Foxes are currently outlawed in the Unseelie city Redfox because the previous ruler's pet fox bit Loren.
- Karmic Injury: When Yue was a kid, she stabbed her little sister Curlinita on the cheek for going in her room and gave her a long scar, and would later get two scars on her cheek herself from being swiped by a giant bug.
- Labcoat of Science and Medicine: Dr. Awesomeness and Mr. Garnet are usually seen wearing these. The former even wears one on a trip to the woods in "Itchy: Amazing Tales" for no apparent reason.
- Large Runt: Dr. Awesomeness is six feet eleven inches tall, which is taller than most people she interacts with but still shorter than average minervae, who are often around eight feet tall.
- Live Mink Coat: The Redfox royals have their pet fuzzy worm monster Fizzy draped on their shoulders like a big boa.
- Lust Makes You Dumb: Dr. Awesomeness manages to seduce Sanjio Optimos of all characters by being covered in blood head to toe and having her hair on fire. He's described as having all traces of smart leave his brain and accidentally tells Awesomeness telepathically that she's the hottest woman he's ever seen, while Awesomeness forgets to speak Universa and starts hitting on Sanjio in Polish.
- Maker of Monsters: Yue, even before she became a divine created animal hybrids and gave animals different traits, and immediately started making monsters upon finding out she could.
- Manipulative Editing: Done willingly by Dr. Awesomeness, as since she Cannot Tell a Lie, she has to tell about her unethical testing on nonconsenting subjects when providing news about her work, but has Mr. Garnet edit the footage to make her say she doesn't do that.
- Marriage of Convenience: The members of Brainfreeze all married each other for tax purposes.
- Memory Gambit: Josefrollop sometimes alters his own memories to be able to tell people untruths, since being fae he can't lie.
- Mermaid in a Wheelchair: Kadt the sirene uses a wheelchair, as she lives in Zareen where that's more convinient and easy to get than a large service animal or a levitation spell.
- Misfit Lab Rat: Dr. Awesomeness was born from a sort of punk band and has a magic golden guitar, though she doesn't dress like that at work except for her big shaggy hair. Yue looks more the part with her piercings, contact lenses, and skull shirt, though she's not really a full-time scientist.
- The Nicknamer: Vanella has a habit of coming up with silly nicknames for people, calling Garnet Gargleblaster, Yue Huey-Dewey-Louie, and Saku "Blueberry Boy".
- Non-Human Non-Binary:
- Apparently, Cerno's elite huntress minervae's gender is "just a nymph" while most nymphs identify as female.
- Downplayed with Strata, an elf who uses she/they pronouns and is still referred to as Helena's sister.
- Notorious Parent: It's mentioned that Kadt's biological mother was a serial killer.
- Omnidisciplinary Scientist: Dr. Awesomeness is an "evil raygun-colorliquidologist" but also works with making chemical weapons and turning people into chromen.
- One-Steve Limit:
- One of the people who used to bully Garnet when they were kids is named Sebastian, but has no relation to Alaine's dad.
- Okatogg and Hulushka have a Valkyrie minervae named Calamity, which is also the name of Itchy's mother.
- Polar Opposite Twins: Akamia and Sineriina are a Tomboy and Girly Girl respectively, and Sineriina is described as annoyingly loud and cheery while Akamia is more chill and laid-back.
- Power Incontinence: Yue's electromancy causes her to unconsciously emit static electricity and unintentionally electrocute those who touch her, and when she's asleep it gets so strong that it's dangerous to get near her.
- The Presents Were Never from Santa: Jussufiina thinks that his necromancy powers are from the "magic juice" that his Scam Religion-running adoptive father gives him, but he's actually a drau who was unknowingly transmuted to look like a dworf as a baby, and the necromancy is just a natural ability for his actual species.
- Psycho Ex-Girlfriend: Curlinita's ex Sirius got so mad about Curlinita dating her brother instead that she tried to kill her with a violent explosion.
- Psychopathic Womanchild: Lady Emli Zareen is portrayed as such in "The Dr. Awesomeness Fighting Amber Saga". Since Amber is an adult when the fight takes place, Emli is already in her thirties, but acts like a bratty child and has to be wrangled around on a leash, punching and biting people just because Trista got more ice cream than her.
- Punch-Clock Villain: Mr. Garnet is a lab assistant to Dr. Awesomeness and has worked with Unwilling Roboticisation and testing chemical weapons on Zareenite prisoners, but is actually surprisingly nice and just sees it as a job.
- Punishment Box: There's a doodle of Dr. Awesomeness in a box labeled "Sorry Box", and depending on the context, it's either for calling maenads the most boring nymphs, trying to dismember Amber, or smoking broccoli.
- Punny Name:
- Sovereign has a minervae "siren with one E" apparently similar to classical sirens, who is named Serenity.
- One member of Brainfreeze was a red elf named Casio (Damijani male names ending in -io) who of course played keyboard.
- Ray Gun: Dr. Awesomeness always carries these, and they even get described as her emotional support ray guns. In "Itchy: Amazing Tales" she chases Itchy and Ginger with a disintegration ray, and in "The Dr. Awesomeness Fighting Amber Saga" takes a bag that "totally doesn’t contain 20 different ray guns" to the high royal gala, even bribing the security to let her keep them.
- Reformed Bully: Sebastian, one of the kids bullying Mr. Garnet, is described as being a lot nicer and wholesome nowadays.
- Running Gag:
- Yue casually drinking dangerous laboratory chemicals.
- Dr. Awesomeness being accused of smoking broccoli because of her constantly bloodshot pink eyes.
- School Idol: Sineriina is the most popular girl in her school thanks to both her mermaidism and singing voice.
- School Yard Bully All Grown Up: In contrast to Sebastian, Leila is described as still being an asshole years after she bullied Garnet.
- Science Wizard: Dr. Awesomeness and Yue are both fae, though Awesomeness uses a lot more inventions like ray guns than magic.
- Self-Parody: "🅱️itchy 🅱️amazing 🅱️ales" is essentially an YouTube Poop based on "Itchy: Amazing Tales", the first work in the series.
- Shared Family Quirks: Yue and most of her shown relatives, living or dead, are almost always pictured as grumpy and scowling or sad.
- Shout-Out:
- In "Itchy: Amazing Tales", Mankind's Disgrace is described as "golden moomin man". Later on, one of Yue's monster creations are the Hattifatteners.
- One drawing of Dr. Awesomeness and Mr. Garnet working at the lab (and Yue drinking from a flask) has a caption stating that they're about to invent Volxemortserum.
- In a drawing of hypothetical minervae created by different mages, Reaper's minervae is just Death from The Sandman (1989) with pointy ears and an ankh symbol on her forehead, and is labelled as such.
- In the same drawing, Morgause's Blank is wearing a Taranchula shirt.
- One drawing has Yue trading Pokémon cards with Saraia from The World of Looming Gaia: Project Starblast, and the latter is wearing a Hevisaurus shirt.
- Vanella calls Garnet Gargleblaster and her eggs-husband, and Yue Huey-Dewey-Louie.
- Jussufiina's name is apparently a nickname for "János Vitéz Fehérlófia Az Ember Tragédiája or smthn".
- Helena, author of books heavy with Torture Porn, is seen holding a book titled “Saw 5” in Universa.
- Stefan carries the Buster Sword to show off his super strength.
- Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Pakila has a bad one-sided rivalry towards Sineriina and constantly attempts to sabotage her for being more popular than her thanks to her mermaidism. However, Sineriina is actually super nice and has no idea how much Pakila hates her.
- Situational Hand Switch: Ignatius used to be left-handed before losing his left arm, and it's mentioned that he's not quite used to using his right hand yet and his handwriting is terrible.
- Slobs Versus Snobs: Helena, a shabby hermit writing controversial Torture Porn books in backwoods Mogdir, and Ruukku, a rich Matuzan maenad who writes wholesome children's books and is described as a "Model Citizen(tm)" have a long history of sending each other angry letters. It started when Ruukku called out Helena's writing as inappropriate and Helena sent an even more inappropriate response.
- Small Parent, Huge Child: Mostly due to Interspecies Adoption:
- Ignatius the teenage elf is almost twice as tall as his dworven stepmother Leila.
- Penhoven the drau child is already a bit taller than her adoptive adhene mother Loren.
- Noros and Satara are both taller than their stepdad Cresti.
- Yue was already taller than her mother as a preteen.
- Tattoo Conceals Scars: A less dramatic version with Vanella, who had a small diamond implanted in her arm as an Emergency Stash and had the surgery scar covered with a glimbee tattoo.
- Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Multiple cases:
- Dr. Awesomeness the minervae is obviously much taller than her dworven lab assistant Mr. Garnet.
- Yue was a lot taller than her deceased husband Beetles.
- Vanella ends up taller than her ex Garnet after being transmuted into an elf.
- Molsa the roshava is taller than her elven husband Cresti.
- Helena is friends-with-benefits with the shorter male faun Saku.
- Langs the faun is of course shorter than his ogrish girlfriend Sapers.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: Between the mermaid twins, Sineriina has longer hair, wears a dress, earrings, and fake eyelashes, is a great singer and loves pop music, while Akamia dresses more tomboyishly and practices something similar to judo.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Though Yue's stated favorite food is nettle pancakes, the thing she's shown consuming most often is dangerous chemicals in Dr. Awesomeness' lab, which she keeps drinking even though they often kill her.
- Tricked into Signing: Dr. Awesomeness is seen trying this on Ojio once, asking for his autograph on a paper that reads "Papers to give us rights 2 make mechaskemas". Though she doesn't seem like she's actually trying to trick him, as she's also pointing a ray gun at him.
- Two-Faced: After Sirius attacked her, the left half of Curlinita's head is covered with red burns, though it doesn't look very gruesome with the simple art style.
- Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny: "The Dr. Awesomeness Fighting Amber Saga" is about a fight between Awesomeness and Amber from The World of Looming Gaia: Project Starblast, which came to be after Greys drew recursive fanart of both of them
. - Unusual Ears: Strata was born with double-pointed ears because of a mutation.
- Unwilling Roboticisation: Dr. Awesomeness makes people into Mechaskema chromen for the Zareenite army, many of whom are not willing. In "The Dr. Awesomeness Fighting Amber Saga" she fights the nearest person (Amber from The World of Looming Gaia: Project Starblast) with the intention to chop off her limbs and turn her into a chroman.
- Villain Song: In "Itchy: Amazing Tales", the Crescent Cultists sing "Roskanheittäjien messu" from the original movie, but with an English Gag Sub mostly consisting of them calling Mankind’s Disgrace by various titles.
- Wacky Parent, Serious Child: Vanella, who is always shown as cheery and fun and is using silly words for things, and her daughter Pakila, who is a grumpy loner tween without much friends and thinks her mom is "a bit cringe".
- Water Guns and Balloons: Maleena has a tendency to shoot people with a water gun if they "look like they need it", though since she lives in Zareen where most water is polluted, it can actually be dangerous.
- Wholesome Crossdresser:
- In an image of several of the characters in fancy party clothing, Noros is wearing a dress and Satara a suit, which apparently is just to annoy any Modern Lindists or similar religious zealots in the room.
- Though Ignatius is rather violent, has bad anger issues and often commits crimes with Jussufiina, him being "a femboy but lazy about it" and always wearing a dress and pink frilly socks is totally unrelated to it and not treated negatively.
- Sebastian's son Stjern wears a skirt because it's comfy.
- Jonas was a trans man but still looked and dressed very femininely and didn't care.
- You Never Did That for Me: Pakila is jealous of her little sister Blera because they're both autistic, but Blera was diagnosed younger and goes to a special needs class and doesn't have to work as hard as Pakila did.
