Go To

The Kingdomverse is a series of fanfics created by Equestrian Defender, the creator of EQuestria Girls Marvel Universe, that adapts the characters from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and places them in the Kingdom Hearts universe.

  • Kingdom Hearts: Twilight's Awakening: The first story in the series. What started as just a dream for Twilight Sparkle turns into a living Nightmare, as her world is destroyed by strange shadowy creatures shortly after she gains the weapon of light, the "Keyblade", and she is separated from her friends. After getting a crash course on the ongoing fight between Light and Darkness, Twilight sets out on her own adventure to find her missing friends and restore her world. (in progress)

The Kingdomverse provides examples of:

  • Acceptable Breaks from Canon: Similar to some of the worlds visited in Kingdom Hearts, some of the worlds visited in this series have their stories diverge from how they happened in canon after Twilight and her team arrive.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Sunset Shimmer seems much nicer here than she was in canon. While studying at Celestia's school in canon, Sunset only cared about power and didn't see the value in friends, until she eventually tried to take what she wanted by force. Here, she is childhood best friends with Twilight, and the memory Twilight has of her acts as her guide while she is unconscious.
  • Adaptational Origin Connection: It is revealed that Twilight was best friends with Sunset Shimmer when they were both fillies. In canon, they didn't meet face to face until Sunset tried to steal Twilight's Element of Magic crown, while they were both adults.
  • Adaptational Species Change: Played with for Spike. He is still a dragon in Equestria, but when he leaves Equestria he goes through a transformation just like Twilight. Instead of becoming a dog though, like when he travels to the human world in canon, he becomes more humanoid similar to Twilight, but at the same time still keeps a few dragon-like traits.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Twilight refers to Sunset Shimmer, her childhood best friend, as Sunny.
  • Alternate Universe Fic: This story puts the world of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic in the Kingdom Hearts universe, and it diverges from canon during the events of Magical Mystery Cure, where instead of Twilight ascending to become an alicorn after completing the spell, she was put into a deep sleep for an entire week and remained a unicorn.
  • And Then What?: During her dream in the first chapter, the Cadance look-a-like asks Twilight what she wants out of life. Twilight remembers how unlike the rest of her friends, she doesn't have a goal or dream for herself and never thought about what she would do when she finally graduated as Celestia's student. Twilight answers that she doesn't know and is still trying to figure that out.
  • Apocalypse How: Just like in the games, the Heartless cause a Class X version to any planet they come across. Equestria is one of their unfortunate victims.
  • Asleep for Days: After casting Starswirl's spell after finishing it, Twilight is put into a deep sleep instead of becoming an alicorn like in canon. She wakes up one week later.
  • Audience Surrogate: The basics about the Heartless and how they destroy worlds are explained to Spike after he arrives in Radiant Garden. Also, Twilight is given a quick summary on the war between Light and Darkness, including the Keyblade War, Xehanort's actions, and the previous adventures of Sora and his friends.
  • Beam-O-War: Twilight's battle with the Darkside Alicorn in Equestria ends this way, with Twilight using her Stardust Laser attack against the Darkside Alicorn's Shadow Beam. The beam clash only lasts for a second before Twilight's attack wins.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Spike is attacked by a giant Bug Monster shortly after arriving in Radiant Garden.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When Spike is in the outskirts of Radiant Garden and is attacked by a strange giant bug monster, Toriel arrives and manages to save him.
  • Captain Obvious: Spike comments that the secret passage he and the Mane 6 found in the Castle of the Two Sisters probably has something to do with Twilight's new Keyblade after they all see a giant keyhole appear in the ground, which he even lampshades.
Spike: Not to state the obvious, but I'm betting it probably has something to do with the oversized keyhole in the ground, and your nice big oversized key.
Rainbow: Still earning you a 'Thank you, Captain Obvious', Spike.
  • Crash-Into Hello: Just like in canon, Twilight meets Flash Sentry this way, bumping into him shortly after arriving in Canterlot while deep in thought about her dream.
  • Crossover: As well as being a one for the characters from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and Kingdom Hearts, other worlds from various Disney properties that haven't appeared in the Kingdom Hearts games yet, as well as a few non-disney properties, will also appear, making somewhat of a Mega Crossover.
    • Undertale: Toriel is seen in Radiant Garden and she mentions that her world, which was destroyed by the Heartless, was called The Monster Underground.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Donald's reaction when Twilight admits she doesn't know how to use her fingers.
  • Dope Slap: Applejack bonks Rainbow on the head for her needlessly calling Spike "Captain Obvious".
  • Early-Bird Cameo: While Twilight is in the Dive to the Heart in the first chapter, two stained glass platforms she stands on depict Ruby Rose and Steven Universe, foreshadowing their eventual involvement in the plot.
  • Expy: The Gummi Ship that Flash Sentry builds while in Radiant Garden is based on the Ghost from Star Wars Rebels.
  • Forced Transformation: Similar to canon, Twilight is transformed from a pony into a human after leaving Equestria and traveling to another world. Unlike canon though it was not due to the effect of the mirror portal, and she simply changes after arriving in Disney Castle. Spike also goes through a transformation after leaving Equestria, but instead of becoming a dog like when he travels to the human world in canon he instead takes on a humanoid appearance like Twilight does, but still maintains some of his dragon traits, like having claws, a few patches of scales, and his tail. Flash Sentry also changes from a pony to a human.
  • The Glomp: After getting Spike's message that Twilight is finally awake, Rainbow and Pinkie rush to the library and tackle-hug her.
  • Having a Blast: Spike's Explosion spell.
  • I Call It "Vera": Twilight decides to name her Keyblade "Spellstar" shortly after getting it.
  • Irony: One of the reasons Twilight chooses the shield in the Dive to the Heart is because "swords were never her thing anyway". Her main weapon ends up being the Keyblade, a sword-like weapon.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Twilight and Spike are established as having a loving "sister and brother" relationship.
  • Living Lie Detector: Twilight has been Celestia's student for so long and shadowed her in Day Court enough to pick up on signs when she is lying or telling half-truths, like when her right ear flicks. Because of this, she knows that Celestia is keeping something from her when she says she has no idea about the creatures from Twilight's dream or about the mysterious storm over the Everfree Forest.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me:
    • Twilight picks the shield as her weapon in the Dive to the Heart, and uses it throughout the first chapter. She then averts this when she gets her Keyblade and uses that as her main weapon.
    • Flash Sentry's main weapon is a shield.
  • Magic Staff: Spike finds one shortly after arriving in Radiant Garden. It is six feet tall and decorated with several runes and symbols. The top of it is shaped like a serpentine dragon with short wings, which holds a gem in its open mouth.
Spike: Wow. This is 100 times cooler than any of the staffs pictured in Ogres and Oubliettes.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Xehanort is called this word for word, when Twilight is told about how his actions led to the destruction of several worlds and several Keyblade wielders either ending up missing or dead.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The first chapter is essentially Twilight going through the Dive to the Heart the same way that Sora did in the first game, with different stained glass platforms and facing her own version of the Darkside Heartless, the Darkside Alicorn.
    • When Twilight awakens to find herself as a human instead of a pony, she lets out a giant scream, just like in My Little Pony: Equestria Girls.
  • Narnia Time: It is explained that sometimes, survivors of a destroyed world arrive on a different world at seperate times. Flash Sentry and Spike were both survivors when the Heartless destroyed Equestria and they both ended up in Radiant Garden, but Flash was there for almost two whole weeks before Spike arrived.
  • No-Sell: The Heartless Shadows, one of the weakest kinds, are able to shrug off magic blasts from Twilight with little more than a slight daze. This is averted when Twilight gets her Keyblade, and she slaughters them.
  • Noodle Incident: When communicating with Spike via mailing letters to each other, Twilight reminds Spike not to experiment with his magic without proper supervision. Spike agrees, saying they don't want a repeat of what happened in Magic Lab 15 on July 4th, only for Twilight to cut him off with her own letter saying they never speak of that.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: After Twilight gets her Keyblade and sees the Heartless surround her friends and Spike, and one preparing to attack Fluttershy, she does something that nobody would have ever thought possible, she swears at the top of her lungs.
Twilight: GET AWAY FROM HER, YOU BITCH!
  • Playing with Fire:
    • Just like in her home game, Toriel uses fire magic.
    • Spike has a high affinity for fire magic, most likely due to being a dragon, and is trained in using it by Toriel.
  • Post-Victory Collapse: Twilight defeats the Darkside Alicorn in Equestria, but her Stardust Laser takes everything out of her and she collapses to the ground and blacks out.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Twilight defeats the Darkside Alicorn in their battle in Equestria, but she is unable to save the world itself from destruction, blacking out after her victory and simply praying that her friends and Spike are alright.
  • Rope Bridge: The Mane 6 and Spike carefully cross the rope bridge to the Castle of the Two Sisters, while trying not to be noticed by Heartless overflowing the gorge below them. Most of them make it across fine but a plank falls loose when Spike crosses and the Heartless spot him. Twilight manages to save him and toss him to the other side, only for the rope bridge to snap with her still on it due to the added weight of the Heartless.
  • Ship Tease: After Twilight bumps into Flash Sentry in Canterlot, Spike points out her smiling, giggling, and jokes toward him are all signs of having a crush on him, though Twilight denies this.
  • Shout-Out: Twilight borrow's Ellen Riply's famous "Get away from her, you bitch!" line when protecting Fluttershy from the Heartless.
  • Simultaneous Arcs: Twilight's Awakening takes place during the events of Dream Drop Distance
  • Take That!:
    • Donald makes it a point to never visit Atlantica again, since he doesn't want to have his legs replaced by the tentacles of an octopus again. Atlantica is widely considered by many to be the worst world in the entire franchise. invoked
    • Spike shamefully recalls how he and everyone else abandoned Twilight during the events of A Canterlot Wedding.
Spike: Some little brother I was.
  • Throwing Your Shield Always Works: While fighting with a shield in the Dive to the Heart, Twilight throws it like a frisbee at one of the Shadows she faces, nailing it in the neck.
  • Throwing Your Sword Always Works: Twilight uses the Strike Raid technique against the Darkside Heartless, throwing her keyblade at it while it spins like a buzzsaw.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Once Twilight gains her Keyblade she begins fighting back against the Heartless, easily slicing them to pieces while daring them to come at her.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Once Twilight stops screaming long enough for Donald and Goofy to introduce themselves, she isn't shocked that the two of them are walking talking anthropomorphic duck and dog respectively or that they are dressed as a wizard and knight. She just says it isn't the weirdest thing she has seen in the last few days and is more concerned about her new body.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: This is essentially what Twilight's Stardust Laser attack is. Purple rune circles appear around her Keyblade and magic surges in it until a massive beam of purple magic shoots out of it. This easily defeated the Darkside Alicorn when she first used it.
