"So we're off on an adventure that nobody else here understands! Alright! Let's go!"
Bendy, Chapter 6

The Indieverse is a Massive Multiplayer Crossover fanfiction written by hitthepin.

It's the absolute end of the line for the Player. The finale of Doki Doki Literature Club! has been reached, Monika being the only one left in the game.

Rather than deleting her file and killing her or leaving her be, the Player decides to Take a Third Option and shift her file into Undertale instead.

Chaos, mass murder, and hilarity all ensue as it's quickly revealed that every game on the Player's computer has achieved sentience. Monika begins a ruthless genocide of everyone in the Underground, and it's up to a bunch of famous indie game characters to band together in order to save the entire multiverse from destruction.

The story can be found on fanfiction.net, AO3, and Wattpad.

The story also has a sequel, The Indieverse: The Hands of Time, which can be found here.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • From Bad to Worse: Much of the story focuses on Monika undergoing a classic Undertale genocide route. Through the killing of many alternate Sanses, Gaster, and Chara, she ends up reaching a LOVE of 99.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Applied many times over throughout the course of the story. Many characters who have been corrupted by Monika's influence are un-corrupted by being defeated in battle, after which they are more than happy to join the very team they lost to.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Employed constantly. Many characters, when beaten into submission, take up the cause and join the very team that defeated them.
  • The Man Behind the Man: A great many villains rise up in the indie game character's way throughout the story, every single one of them corrupted and influenced by Monika herself.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: The story contains characters from nine different indie games.
  • The Multiverse: Each game visited in turn is its own distinct universe. All the games together are frequently referred to as "the multiverse", all entirely existing on the Player's computer. In sequential order, the nine indie games included in the first Indieverse include: Doki Doki Literature Club!, Undertale, Five Nights at Freddy's, Hello, Neighbor, Bendy and the Ink Machine, Tattletail, Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning, Cuphead, and Little Nightmares. Braid is added onto the roster in the sequel.
  • Not Quite Dead: Applies to Sans and Gaster. Monika kills Gaster in Chapter 15 and Sans in chapter 19. However, Gaster was not entirely killed, enabling the last fragments of his soul to enter whatever dust that Sans had left behind to reanimate him.
  • Reset Button: The end of the story literally has this, with Frisk resetting the entire multiverse and putting everything back in its place. It seems as though everyone remembers the events that transpired in the previous timeline, however, leaving the door open for the sequel.
  • Shout-Out: Bonnie the Bunny uses the same "fowa" Verbal Tic that EthGoesBoom's depiction of the character uses.
  • Sorting Algorithm of Evil: The first true enemy the heroes fight in the story is just some lame Fubry spinoff (although that's not to say she isn't threatening). The foes being fought quickly ramp up in difficulty, however, culminating in a battle against Monika herself.
  • Soul Power: Both the Lady and Six from Little Nightmares possess this, just as they do in canon.
  • Surprisingly Happy Ending: Most of Chapter 24: The Final Battle is just Monika absolutely kicking all of the heroes' asses. It's only thanks to a last-minute arrival from a revived Sans that manages to save the day.
  • The Team: One of the main characters from eight of the nine indie games ends up joining the group to bring down Monika. In sequential order, they are: Freddy Fazbear, Mr. Peterson, Bendy, Mama Tattletail, Baldi, Frisk, Cuphead, and Six. The Player is universally thought of as their leader, despite being in an entirely different world and being mostly impotent. By the end of the first story, the team has essentially become True Companions, bonded together into an inseperable unit thanks to all the killing and ass-kicking they've done together.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Monika. Still the same as she is in her native game, now on a much larger scale.
  • Yandere: Monika, again. She vows to destroy everyone in her path to the Player.
