Fanfic / The Fairy Mythos Series

Go To

The Fairy Mythos series is a series of Fairy Tail fanfics written by Navek. While Natsu and Happy still meet Lucy in Hargeon, this time the two are accompanied by two of Natsu's Childhood Friends, Zeke and Alyssa. Together, these five wizards form one of Fairy Tail's strongest teams, Team Morningstar!

While at first, things seem the same as the Canon, it soon becomes clear that this series is set in an Alternate Universe.

Part 1: Fairy Tail: A New Day

Part 2: Fairy Tail: Homecoming

It also has a few spin-offs from the main story, including the Wizarding School side story Avalon Academy and the comedic one-shots called Fairy Shenanigans.

This page is currently under construction; any contributions are appreciated.

The Fairy Mythos Series contains examples of:

  • A Boy and His X: Natsu and Happy
  • A-Cup Angst: Hoshi...sort of. At the very least, she compares her bust to Evergreen's during the Beach Episode.
  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: Zeke's Spiral Sword (and his later bow), Alexander's cutlass, Jackson's black sword, Lucy Meteore, etc.
  • Action Dad: Lyle
  • Action Girl: Aside from the Canon ones, we got Alyssa, Claudia, Marianne, Amelia, Hoshi, and many others (both heroes and villains) joining the list.
  • Adaptation Expansion: The series goes into more depth with the history of Fiore and the previous generations of Fairy Tail.
  • Adaptational Badass: Lucy is a major case. In Chapter 17 of A New Day, she manifests her Celestial Arm, Meteore. Her fight with Bickslow is more even than the Canon.

    • Happy becomes this a little bit by using Lacrima Bombs. He later becomes a full one in Homecoming when he gains the ability to transform into a Lion.
  • Adaptational Curves: Erza and Lucy have been described as having fit & toned physiques.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: A younger Yukino appears in A New Day.
    • Dan Straight appears as a student at Avalon Academy.
  • Adjusting Your Glasses: Navek seems to be a fan of characters doing this, as seen with Lyle, Reginald, and Lester.
  • Adorkable: It's a Fairy Tail fanfiction. It wouldn't be complete without the main characters being big dorks when they're not kicking ass.
  • Aerith and Bob: We have heroes named Natsu, Alyssa, Alexander and Hoshi...and then we have Lucy and Zeke.
  • Affably Evil: Silas the Shadowman has a calm attitude most of the time. Keyword being most.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Natsu and Alyssa take turns calling each other 'babe' and Alexander gives a few of his teammates nicknames, in particular calling Zeke 'Crack Shot'.
  • Advertisement:
  • Age Lift: According to Natsu, every member of Team Morningstar is at least 18. Their actual ages are later confirmed via Word of God, showing that the cast in their late teens or early twenties.
  • All Men Are Perverts: A recurring pattern for the series is to have many of the single or more impulsive men (such as Bickslow and Macao) be open perverts while the guys that are in relationships just roll their eyes at this. The only exception is Wakaba.
  • All There in the Manual: At the beginning and end of each chapter, Navek has Author's Notes that explain his reasoning behind the events of the story, his inspirations, and updates on his other stories (which also have Author's Note).
  • Alternate Universe: Considering that there are several Original Characters retconned into Fairy Tail's history. Chapter 16 of A New Day confirms it with an event 2000 years ago called the Forty-Year War, and one of the big players of that conflict was Zeref. A more solid confirmation comes in A New Day's final arc, which reveals that Natsu was a normal human who lived in a village until a series of unfortunate events led to him developing amnesia before being adopted by Igneel, pretty much getting rid of any relation he had to Zeref in Canon.
  • Amazon Chaser: Pretty much a given with all of the ladies being Action Girls.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Alyssa is described as such and is Natsu's Girlfriend.
  • Amicable Exes: Zeke and Levy seem to be this.
  • Arc Villain: Erigor & Lullaby, Lyon Vastia, Jose, and the Holy Crusaders in A New Day. Laxus, Yaza the King of Riders and Raven Tail in Homecoming (so far).
  • Archer Archetype: Zeke's magic called Arch Shot fits the bill.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Zeke gives one to Freed during the Fighting Festival Arc.
Oh, for the love of...Freed, stop thinking about Laxus! Think about yourself for once!" Zeke shouted. "Is this what you want? Do you want to fight your friends?! Do you want to hold all of Magnolia hostage?! All so that some arrogant, power-hungry jack off can toss everyone out on their ass?!"
  • Ascended Extra: The Celestial Spirit Pisces becomes one of Lucy's Spirits rather than Yukino's, becoming one of Lucy's 'Big Guns.'
  • Ascended Fangirl: Lucy, same as in Canon.
  • Asskicking Equals Authority: It's a fanfic of a shonen battle manga. What else do you expect?
  • The Atoner: The former enemies who join Fairy Tail have varying degrees of this. Lester also seems to have hints of this as well.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: One of Zeke's greatest strengths.
  • Ax-Crazy: Several villains (and a few of the heroes) are somewhat unstable. But the most insane example is Yaza, who Navek based off the Ultimate Warrior. Here's an example:
ARARARARARARARAH! What was unreal has become real! What is unjust is now just! I have come to tackle all those who seek to destroy my controlled chaos! You will face the power of the KIIIIIIIIINNNNNGG!
  • Badass Adorable: Happy and Lupus are certainly this.
  • Badass Boast: Too many to count. See the Moment of Awesome page for more details.
  • Badass Crew: All of the wizard teams are this by default.
  • Badass Family: The Hudson Family.
  • Battle Aura: Whenever someone has this, you can expect some crazy magic to follow.
    • Natsu gains the Beast Aura as his Second Origin Magic.
  • Battle Couple: Natsu & Alyssa are this when they fight Erigor and the Cold Emperor's Posse.
  • Battle Discretion Shot: Well, more like Weird Kinky Torture Discretion Shot. Lucy summons Virgo to interrogate one of the Holy Crusaders for information. We don't see what happens, it apparently involved nacho cheese and a log covered in suspicious-looking liquid. And naturally, Team Morningstar is horrified by this.
(The following 'punishment' has been removed due to this story being rated T. Seriously, you don't want to know what Virgo is doing behind this message. It's pretty damn weird.)
  • Beach Episode: The series has had two so far.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Subverted as the gals take as much of a beating as the guys in battle.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Most of the heroes are fairly jovial people, but are terrifying in battle.
  • Big Bad:
    • Jellal/Siegrain
  • Big Damn Kiss: Zeke and Juvia share one in Homecoming.
  • Bloodless Carnage: Subverted like crazy, with characters getting cut or coughing out blood during the fights. This becomes Hilarious in Hindsight as the Fairy Tail anime was rather infamous for this.
  • Breather Episode: One or two of these usually occur after each arc.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Explaining in-universe to strengthen spells via mental word association.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Zeke's ability to create barriers turns out to be a precursor for Emerald Aegis.
  • Childhood Friends: Natsu, Alyssa, and Zeke are this.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: While Juvia still has a few moments of jealousy, it's nowhere near the level she was in the original manga/anime.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: It wouldn't be Fairy Tail if it didn't have at least some crazy people.
  • Cool Guns:
    • Alexander's unnamed Flintlock
    • Desmond's Elemental Pistols, Tango and Waltz.
  • Create Your Own Villain: Natsu, although accidentally, started Fuyu's descent into madness when he awakens his fire magic and accidentally burns their home down with his immature magic. However, it's clear that something was wrong with her before her attempted filicide.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Zeke faces one during his battle with Lyon.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Alyssa seems to suffer this from time to time.
  • Decomposite Character: Mystogan from the source material. Jackon Zephyr takes on the Mystogan identity while Hoshi uses his Staff Magic.
  • Deconstruction: Of romance in Shonen action series. Usually, any kind of romantic resolution is left for the series epilogue with tons of Ship Tease until then. Characters in the Fairy Mythos Series are either already in a romantic relationship (Natsu & Alyssa) or show feelings for each other (Gray & Cana, Alzack & Bisca, Erza & Reginald). So far, the longest pre-relationship romance was Zeke & Juvia at seventeen chapters. Contrast with Lucy & Freed, who are set up on a blind date and immediately hit it off in the same chapter!
  • The Dragon: Silas is shaping up to be one for Jellal.
  • Drop the Hammer: Claudia's preferred method of combat.
  • Energy Bow: Zeke fires energy arrows as part of his magic.
  • Ensemble Cast: While at first glance, Natsu seems like the main character, the rest of Team Morningstar have also gotten their fair share of screentime (or rather page time).
  • Ensign Newbie: Lucy, but in her overall experience as a wizard than when she joined the guild.
  • Expy: Zeke's magic is based on the Quincies from Bleach, Alyssa's physique is based on Elle Ragu from Shadow Skill, and Alexander just screams of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger.
  • Fanservice: Extremely downplayed when compared to the source material, especially when it comes to Lucy's Clothing Damage.
  • Fantastic Racism: As a whole, the Holy Crusaders despise anything related to magic. Crosses into some hypocrisy as several of their abilities are clearly mystical in nature.
  • Flipping the Bird: Gajeel does this during the Mr. Fairy Tail competition. You can probably guess why.
  • Filler: Somewhat averted as they are either used for World Building or Character Development.
  • Gender Bender: The entire guild goes through this thanks to the Changeling spell.
  • Hard Light: Several Magics have elements of this.
  • He Is Not My Boyfriend: Erza tends to say this whenever someone questions her relationship with Reginald. No one buys this for even a second.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Team Morningstar is known as Fairy Tail's Demolition Team. You can guess why.
  • Heroic Build: Varies from character to character, depending on their magic or fighting style.
  • Heroic Fantasy: Similar to the original story, with some hints at the setting evolving into High Fantasy.
  • I Want Them Alive: In the final arc of A New Day, Fuyu orders her Crusaders to take Natsu alive, due to him being her son.
  • Killed Off for Real: This seems to be the case for Mythos Zeref.
  • Lap Pillow: Alyssa does this for Natsu whenever the team travels by vehicle.
  • Lemony Narrator: While the narration is mostly straightforward, sometimes even Navek is baffled by what's happening in the story. Here's an example:
(Please note that the author of this story does not discriminant against anyone based on physical appearances. But to paraphrase the Nostalgia Critic, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And anyone with eyes can clearly see that those maids are ugly as sin. We now return to your regularly scheduled fanfiction.)
  • Loads and Loads of Characters: Aside from all of the canon characters, we have the dozen-plus Original Characters for the Fairy Tail Guild, the other guilds, new Zodiac spirits, and all of the original villains.
  • Midseason Upgrade: Homecoming is turning out to be this for Team Morningstar with Natsu, Alyssa, Zeke, and Alexander unlocking their Second Origin Magics during the events of the story. Happy also gets this with his Lion form.
  • Mistaken for Gay: This happens in Homecoming when Zeke helps Natsu get an engagement ring. The store clerk assumes that Natsu and Zeke are getting engaged due to the archer having his arm around Natsu's shoulder at the time.
  • Nosebleed: Zeke tends to get this from Juvia.
  • Original Characters: A good amount so far.
  • Pirate: Alexander and the Star Liberators.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Aside from Natsu & Alyssa, everyone else in Team Morningstar is shaping up to be friends with no hints of romantic notions.
  • Posthumous Character: Zeref.
  • The Power of Friendship: Aside from the metaphorical kind, there's also a form of magic that weaponizes this; Unity Magic (The Mythos version of Unison Raids). Zeke and Natsu are the first among the main cast to accomplish this in Homecoming when they create Blazing Aegis.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Ur
  • Spell Book: Seward's Tome Magic.
  • Super Mode: Natsu's Azure Flames and Alyssa's Overclock.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Despite being the biggest woman in the cast who enjoys a good brawl as much as any of the guys, Alyssa enjoys discussing romantic gossip with the rest of the guild gals, has a weakness for cute things (her bed is covered with plushies), and even owns very feminine dresses and swimsuits.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Lucy does this during her battle with Bickslow.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Since Lucy has become an Adaptational Badass, many of her foes tend to underestimate her.
  • Wham Episode: The last arc of A New Day is a massive one for Natsu, as his entire past is revealed. Not only is his birth mother still alive, she's also the leader of an insane anti-magic cult who tried to strangle him to death when he was four. Earlier that same night, a criminal wizard threated to kill Natsu, forcing the young boy to involuntary awaken this magic. This caused not only the criminal to burn to death, but it also led to the death of Natsu's birth father (stabbed to death by his insane mother), his sister getting burned, and their house burning down. Naturally, all of this trauma was too much for a four-year-old Natsu to bear, so his mind repressed it so much that Natsu had severe amnesia up until the above-mentioned reveal.
    • It also serves as one for the entire series in a Meta-Sense. Up until this arc, A New Day had been following the Stations of the Canon with several details altered (mostly for the Original Characters). The revelations of this arc makes it so that the source material's endgame story can never occur and that several major events down the road will be insanely different from the Canon.
