When Misato stops the Jet Alone robot, nobody could predict the consequences she must face...or account for the deadly secret in her blood.

Superwomen of Eva: Emerald Fury by OrionPax09 is the very first story in the Superwomen of Eva series, and has Misato Katsuragi as the She-Hulk (though based on The Incredible Hulk himself, and not the She-Hulk character).

Following the Jet Alone incident where, in a twist of canon, Misato is accidentally irradiated, she finds herself not dead, but instead transformed into something powerful...and savage.

Sadly, with the self-imposed 'retirement' of OrionPax09, this story would not see further updates.

Tropes:

  • Abusive Parents: While drunk, Maya confesses that her mother used to beat her.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Asuka's depiction in this story is outright unsympathetic, whereas in canon she at least had her sympathetic moments.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Asuka is happy to let She-Hulk and Spirit potentially kill each other, and sports a Slasher Smile when given the go-ahead to kill Spirit herself.
  • Affably Evil: Grey Gargoyle is quite friendly even to his enemies, and agrees to Fuyutsuki's insistence that he not "make an example" of his third hostage just to prove he's serious; he actually looks rather pleased by the request.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Take a guess. People (most of them men) going ga-ga over the She-Hulk's near-constant naked appearances (courtesy of Clothing Damage during changing or because of battle) is a Running Gag (although not always a "funny" one). This also applies to Maya and Asuka with their respective Absorbing Woman and Red She-Hulk transformations.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Several people dismiss the idea of the She-Hulk as completely impossible, despite having to deal with the Angels on a regular basis.
  • Armor Is Useless: Given that She-Hulk can tear through an AT field with raw physical might, even the thickest armor has little chance of slowing her down.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: Hikari gives several to Asuka when lambasting her for her treatment of Shinji, such as when Asuka asks why NERV would possibly sabotage Jet Alone, and Hikari retorts they'd do it to eliminate any financial competition.
  • Author Appeal: The author really liked his women with lots of muscle.
  • Badass Normal: Even as a human, Misato easily takes down both armed thugs and Section-2 agents.
  • The Big Damn Kiss: Misato gives one to Shinji after he shows unconditional support for her, even after she becomes She-Hulk.
  • Blessed with Suck: Misato thinks of She-Hulk this way at first, envious of how Spirit has super powers without losing her mind to a rage monster.
  • Bothering by the Book: When Gendo gives orders to focus on repairing the MAGI and making sure the 11th Angel has been defeated, rather than trying to save Maya, Fuyutsuki points out to the others that they've technically already fulfilled said orders, so now everyone can do whatever they want. Naturally, they all decide to continue working to save Maya.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall / Fourth-Wall Observer: Misato gets this power (an explicit Shout-Out to the John Byrne She-Hulk run) in the story's Omake. Sometimes she uses it to voice her displeasure about something towards the author. A Running Gag amongst the other Superwomen of Eva stories' Omake (especially the Marvel Comics-based ones) is the other Superwomen requesting that Misato take them through the Fourth Wall so they can speak to the author about what displeases them.
  • Breast Expansion: The already-curvaceous Misato gets this as part of her transformation into the She-Hulk. The same happens to Maya as part of her Absorbing Woman transformations. Also Asuka as of chapter 25, with her transformation into the Red She-Hulk, or Red as she's come to be known as.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Gendo's thug of a Section-2 head, Chiron, has a habit of insulting Misato, despite being well aware of what she is.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Played for Laughs when Misato suggests Shinji's not impressed by her bust now that he's seen She-Hulk's.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Shinji's years of playing the cello have given him a good ear for pitch and tone, causing him, in one chapter, to realize the animalistic cries he's hearing aren't coming from She-Hulk.
  • Clothing Damage / Shapeshifting Excludes Clothing: Given that Misato becomes She-Hulk in this story, this should come as no surprise. Thus far, if her clothing isn't completely destroyed in her transformation, it will be in the subsequent battle. This also happens to Maya and Asuka with their respective first transformations into Absorbing Woman and Red She-Hulk, with the former's uniform and the latter's plugsuit ending up torn to ribbons, barely covering their modesty upon finishing their metamorphoses.
  • Composite Character: Despite being called She-Hulk, Misato's alter-ego functions a lot more like a female version of The Incredible Hulk. While still a woman, and thus turning into an Amazonian Beauty with massive, attention-grabbing breasts when transformed, Misato's She-Hulk is depicted as a separate personality with a simpler, more emotion-driven mentality, and a tendency to use Hulk Speak. Several omakes run with this fact by bringing in direct comparisons to alternate personas that the Hulk has undergone in comics, such as "Joe Fixit", the Gray Hulk.
  • Crossover: Spirit. Her origin is the same as in her own story, although how much of her story still happened offscreen is unknown.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Most of She-Hulk's fights end this way. The hard part is getting her to curbstomp the right opponents.
  • Declaration of Protection: Misato's first sort-of-conversation with She-Hulk is Misato swearing she'll kill her if she ever harms Shinji. She-Hulk likewise agrees.
    "Never hurt Shinji. Never."
  • Didn't Think This Through: When Shinji proves capable of getting through to a berserk She-Hulk, Ritsuko goes to confront her in hopes she can do the same. Kaji decides to go along as well to help, forgetting (or possibly ignoring) that his and Misato's relationship is complicated at best and a Destructive Romance at worst. She-Hulk roars in his face and throws him into a lake.
  • Disappointed in You: When Kaji learns that Asuka's been abusive towards Shinji, he makes it clear just how disappointed he is in her.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Most people have this reaction in regards to She-Hulk, even if she's currently smashing up her surroundings while being mere feet away from them.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: While feeding, Absorbing Woman moans in pure ecstasy, especially while feeding off of She-Hulk. Also, Misato and Asuka cry out in exhilaration as they transformed into their Hulk forms in Chapters 17 and 25 respectively, implying that the Hulking Out process elicits arousal.
  • Domestic Abuse: While not in a romantic relationship, Asuka verbally and physically abuses Shinji constantly once Misato is forced to live in a Gilded Cage inside the Geofront.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Gendo learns the hard way that grafting an Eldritch Abomination onto his body has serious repercussions.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!:
    • When she first spots them, Spirit pegs Rhino as "fairly large" and Grey Gargoyle as "rather small". Then when she gets up close, she realizes that Grey Gargoyle is over a foot taller than her, making her realize just how large Rhino is.
    • After Kaji promises to come by more often, Asuka gleefully plans how she'll show him how mature and grown up she is, only to remember he's coming by because, in his words, Asuka's proven that she isn't mature enough to take care of herself and has to be monitored more.
  • Extreme Mêlée Revenge: She-Hulk dishes one out to Absorbing Woman after she thinks the latter killed Shinji.
  • Fan Boy: Kensuke gushes about how "cool" the various happenings in the story are, including Maya becoming Absorbing Woman and fighting She-Hulk, and Gendo making his own versions of Spirit, only for the others to remind him that in the real world, things like that have very serious consequences.
  • Fastball Special: Pen-Pen does this to Asuka in an omake via giant robot.
  • Frame-Up: Gendo frames Maya as a murderous monster in order to control her.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: Misato beats up a group of delinquents while nude. It was only one of them taking Shinji hostage that forced her to unleash She-Hulk. Similarly, any battle involving She-Hulk.
  • Gilded Cage: When NERV discovers Misato is She-Hulk, they create one of these in the depths of the Geofront to be her new living quarters. It is armor-plated and rigged to fill with sleeping gas to prevent Misato from changing.
  • Good Feels Good: Fuyutsuki and Ritsuko both remark to themselves how nice it feels doing something because it's the right thing to do, rather than because it advances Gendo's scenario.
  • Good Thing You Can Heal: Like usual, Spirit takes a ton of damage (this time from She-Hulk), but is able to survive thanks to her healing factor.
  • Growing Muscles Sequence: Misato's transformations into She-Hulk are often portrayed as this. Same goes for Maya and Asuka's transformations into Absorbing Woman and Red, respectively.
  • Healing Factor: Spirit. Probably She-Hulk too, given that Misato's scar from Second Impact was healed up, but she never really gets hurt.
  • High-Altitude Battle / Free-Fall Fight: She-Hulk vs. the Tenth Angel.
  • Honor Before Reason:
    • Initially, Toji and Kensuke refuse to tell Shinji and Hikari why they can trust two hackers Kensuke wants to bring into their group, citing that they promised they wouldn't tell anyone about said hackers. Shinji and Hikari counter that they need more than that if they're to trust a pair of strangers with a secret that could get them all killed.
    • Gendo's insistence on never showing weakness, and thus refusing treatment when he's injured, means no one learns in time that Adam is using She-Hulk's blood and the 11th Angel's nanites to forcibly evolve Gendo's body and take him over.
  • Hulk Speak: She-Hulk does this when she's not roaring at everything and everybody, mostly when Misato has some control.
  • Hulking Out: She-Hulk, naturally. Also Asuka, as of chapter 25.
  • Hypocrite: Asuka insults Spirit for "being a glory hog and acting like she's better than everyone else", mere moments after mentally lambasting Shinji for not realizing that being an Eva pilot made him better than everyone else and not milking his fame for all it's worth.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Asuka has a moment early on when considering Misato's situation, where she notes that she has experience with your life falling apart for reasons beyond your control. She then immediately decides their situations aren't the same and continues being a Jerkass.
  • I'll Pretend I Didn't Hear That: Fuyutsuki declares he's going to take a nap so he doesn't notice the bridge crew defying Gendo's orders.
  • Kid with the Leash: Shinji is the only one who can get She-Hulk to do anything, and she's willing to follow his wishes, even if she doesn't understand why he wants her to do something.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Maya decides that this is NERV's only option when the 10th Angel appears. Misato convinces her otherwise.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Misato being She-Hulk, and her powers, are frequently described as being "straight out of a comic book".
  • Let's You and Him Fight: She-Hulk is tricked into thinking Spirit is Adam, and Spirit, in turn, thinks She-Hulk is a dangerous, hostile monster.
  • Logical Weakness: As strong as She-Hulk is, she still has to breathe, making her vulnerable to knockout gas.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Gendo as usual. The fact the his target tends to brutally attack the first thing she thinks attacked her makes it all the easier.
  • Marshmallow Hell: She-Hulk subjects Shinji to this. Subverted in that he, on some level, likes it.
  • Morality Pet: Shinji functions as one to She-Hulk. NERV command quickly realizes that he's the only one who can get her to do anything.
  • Most Common Superpower: She-Hulk is strong enough to fight Angels, and so busty that Shinji can't see her face when standing close to her, unless she bends down. As Absorbing Woman and Red respectively, Maya and Asuka are quite strong in their own right and also pretty buxom themselves.
  • Mugging the Monster: A gang of thugs find Shinji and Misato alone in an alley and decide to harass them. It does not end well.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Thought verbatim by Ritsuko multiple times, particularly when Misato seemingly goes to her death to stop Jet Alone, and when she transforms into She-Hulk. She tries to rationalize her culpability in both by stating that if she hadn't sabotaged Jet Alone, Gendo would have had someone else do it.
  • Mythology Gag: Some of the omakes reference some of the Hulk's other personalities, such as She-Hulk turning grey and calling herself "Misato Fixit".
  • Never My Fault: Asuka blames all her problems on Shinji. Even when she gets in trouble for punching Shinji, she claims it wouldn't have happened if he had done her homework correctly.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Absorbing Woman is only interested in satisfying her hunger and doesn't attack anyone, until she spots She-Hulk, who has more energy than anything else nearby.
  • Noodle Incident: Kaji and Ritsuko mention that the last time Misato was mad and drunk rather than happy and drunk, the entire class had to clean the mess up, and they're not certain if the wall ever got fixed.
  • Not-So-Imaginary Friend: The mental Fuyutsuki Gendo finds himself debating turns out to really be Adam.
  • Now You Tell Me:
    • Maya calls Asuka and Shinji to let them know they have to keep Misato calm...roughly ten minutes after Misato has already transformed into She-Hulk.
    • Spirit finally gets a chance to ask Shinji what She-Hulk's weakness is, and learns she'll change back once she calms down, right after Spirit blasted her into a mountain.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Misato's reaction when she almost falls off Jet Alone, and when she sees her face shield has cracked.
    • Chiron's verbatim reaction when he realizes the tranq rounds are bouncing off She-Hulk's body.
    • Spirit's reaction to realizing just how large Rhino is.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Asuka realizes how seriously Hikari is taking her assault on Shinji when Hikari speaks to her impersonally and professionally, rather than as a friend.
  • Older Alter Ego: Red serves as this for Asuka.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Shinji sees Spirit powered down when she's hiding out from She-Hulk (without her wings, hair color and enhanced physique), and is rather quickly able to recognize her as Hikari.
  • The Peter Principle: After Misato is revealed to be She-Hulk, Gendo deems her unfit to remain as NERV's official Operations Director. Acting on Ritsuko's recommendation, he and Fuyutsuki assign Maya to take Misato's place. To say that Maya does not take it well would be to put it lightly.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Misato gets accused of this by Ritsuko regarding her hatred for the Angels.
  • Secret-Keeper: Most of the NERV staff for Misato. Shinji is both this for her, and for Spirit, after he recognizes her.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Asuka claims that NERV would have not motivation for sabotaging Jet Alone while also stating that if it hadn't failed, it might've replaced the Evangelions.
  • Slut-Shaming: Asuka's go-to insult for She-Hulk, Misato, and Spirit is to call them sluts, even though Spirit at least shows no sort of promiscuity.
  • Spider-Sense: After Jet Alone, Misato can sense the presence of Angels. Getting too close to the patch of Adam in Gendo's palm causes her to pass out.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She-Hulk, naturally. Same for Absorbing Woman and Red.
  • Straw Misogynist: Chiron can't stand women, and regularly argues that they're inferior just for being women. He holds a significant grudge against Misato for being his superior officer.
  • Super Mode: When She-Hulk thinks Shinji's been killed, she grows past her "normal" size and goes from struggling against Absorbing Woman to knocking her around with ease.
  • Super-Scream: She-Hulk's "Impact Roar", a blast of gamma energy from her mouth, as opposed to the Hulk's "hurricane clap".
  • Taken for Granite: Grey Gargoyle can turn people to stone by touching them.
  • Take That, Audience!: One of the omakes in the most recent chapter has the author himself basically saying that he thinks people who like Asuka have no taste.
  • The Tease: Misato, as usual. When alone with Shinji, She-Hulk can behave like this as well, fiddling with her damaged clothing and snuggling him against her massive breasts.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Shinji and She-Hulk.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Besides Misato becoming She-Hulk, Maya becomes a female version of Absorbing Man and in Chapter 25 Asuka becomes Red She-Hulk.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Asuka goes from verbally abusive to demanding Shinji do all her chores and homework, to the point where she's kicking him in the ribs or punching him if he refuses.
  • Unstoppable Rage: She-Hulk of course, if either Shinji is threatened, or if someone attacks her. Usually both.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: She-Hulk towards Shinji. Very protective, and extremely violent.
  • Wham Line:
    • When Gendo is writhing in pain, seemingly caused by his injuries, the mental Fuyutsuki makes an unusual comment.
Fuyutsuki: It hurts, doesn't it? Being born usually does.
    • Ritsuko keeps an audio journal when she starts on a project to make herself un-killable and ends her first entry with this line.
Ritsuko: And as such, from now on this project will be referred to as...Project: Titania.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: When she learns Asuka has been forcing Shinji to do her homework, on top of physically assaulting him, Hikari lambasts Asuka over her actions rather thoroughly.
  • The Worf Effect: As powerful as the Evangelions are, they'd be near worthless against She-Hulk, as a Humongous Mecha simply isn't designed to fight a (relatively) man-sized opponent.
  • You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry!: Shinji says this in regards to Misato when they're being harassed by thugs. They don't believe him...
    • In Chapter 25, as a result of past experience with She-Hulk and Asuka's attitude towards him thus far, Shinji feared this to be the case with Asuka after she transformed into the Red She-Hulk right in front of him, which led him to call She-Hulk for help upon noticing her in the background. However, it turns out to not be the case as Red, Asuka's resulting She-Hulk Split Personality, is shown to be more stable if rather free-spirited alongside being more amiable. She is also implied to be manifested from aspects of Asuka's personality that have been buried beneath her 'normal' persona for quite some time.
Samson: Oh? Then…I take it that you know Asuka?
Asuka as Red: Sure I know her! That damned bitch has ruined my entire life! [...] I used to have friends! I could have been happy! But that damned arrogant whore threw away all of that so she could be a pilot! That stupid, selfish, bullying bitch! [...] "I mean, you should've seen Shinji when he was here earlier! I'd just come out for the first time in – what, a decade?! And the first thing he does when he sees me? He panics and thinks I'm about to beat him up! [...] Not that I blame him! After all, that's what Asuka would do! And how could he know that I'm not Asuka?!
