Standing in Awe of Death is an ongoing Crossover between My Hero Academia and Ajin; namely, an Alternate Universe in which Bakugou's bullying goes a little too far, and Izuku discovers that he isn't Quirkless. Rather, he can instantly recover from any death. Diverging from canon, it follows Izuku's life and ramifications of being unable to stay dead.

The series can be found here.

As of 2019, the fic has been declared a Dead Fic- however, Ramabear has begun a rewrite entitled Trustfall here.

Standing in Awe of Death provides examples of:

  • Abuse Mistake: Although certainly not healthy, Bakugou and Izuku's relationship is mistaken as physically abusive repeatedly.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Izuku shows interest in Bakugou rather than Ochako.
  • Alternate Universe: Beyond the premise itself, several key moments change due to Izuku's Quirk.
  • The Atoner: Bakugou views himself as this, deciding to devote himself to protecting Deku after witnessing his suicide; the validity of his feelings are questioned in-story.
  • Black Comedy
  • Closet Key: Played rather disturbingly with Todoroki overhearing Bakugou and Izuku being intimate. The disturbing factor mostly comes from the fact that Bakugou strangles him to death during it.
  • Driven to Suicide: Izuku; it doesn't stick.
  • Erotic Asphyxiation: One of the perks of immortality.
  • Harmful to Minors: Bakugou and Izuku's childhood 'experiments' with death clearly warp their personal views of it.
  • Living Emotional Crutch
  • Mama Bear: Inko, to the point of bludgeoning her own husband to keep Izuku safe.
  • The Masochism Tango: Bakugou and Izuku form a complex example of this trope, primarily due to most of their violence being meaningless.
  • Only Sane Man: Hisashi comes across as this; he immediately wants to tell the police when told about Deku and Bakugou's experiments, and generally displays the most concern about their quasi-abusive relationship.
  • Primal Scene: Played for Drama with Todoroki hearing Bakugou and Izuku.
  • They Would Cut You Up: Bakugou's main fear.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Todoroki's outburst after said Primal Scene sparks the explosion that injures and kills several of his classmates.
  • Yandere: Bakugou and Izuku both show shades of this, mostly due to their crippling codependency.
