A boy from New York moves to Paris for one year, because of his mother's job. Not only does he now have to get used to a new school, but also get used to work alongside Paris' heroes Ladybug and Chat Noir as the Raven Miraculous wielder Karasu.
Shadows
is a fanfiction related toMiraculous Ladybug and has been created by magiaburst. With thirteen (twelve, including an introduction chapter for the main character) chapters, it is complete.
It has two sequels, A Different Song and Prism, as well as a remake.
Shadows contains examples of:
- Action Prologue: The story starts with Ladybug and Chat Noir taking on Hawk Moth's latest akuma, the Architector.
- Animal-Themed Superbeing: Karasu is based upon the common raven.
- Karasu's ability is it to darken the sight of anyone he comes in contact with. That is referenced to how ravens often represent darkness. Also, the name Karasu is japanese and literally translates to "raven".
- Badass Normal: In the third chapter, Cyril witnesses a man trying to mug Aeon. His reaction? Provoking the man and then giving him a hard hook to the right. Unknowingly to him at that time was that it had been just a simulation created by Aeon to test his heroism.
- Call-Back: Marinette explains to Cyril how Lila once framed her.
- The Magician of Misfortune returns as the akuma of the second chapter, with a slight addition to his powers.
- The third chapter is focused on Cyril's backstory and what happened after the cliffhanger of the New York special.
- The eighth chapter starts with a battle against a villain called Gagotor. The name is a reference to the cancelled episode of Season 2 of the same name.
- Came Back Strong: This time around, Mayura granted Volpina a sentimonster that would allow her to empower her illusions to match the original. In that way, she had almost obtained Ladybug and Chat Noir's miraculous, if it was not for Karasu.
- Character Development: After Cyril convinces Chloé that Hawk Moth only manipulates her for his needs, she starts to soften up a bit to Sabrina. She also considers Marinette and Alya "not as ridiculous as before". Cyril is even considered "acceptable".
- Continuity Nod: Close to the end of the sixth chapter, it is mentioned that that day's akuma was none other than Mr. Pigeon.
- Nathalie slowly recovers from her illness (which she had obtained by the usage of the broken Peacock Miraculous), to a point she is physically capable of becoming Mayura again. Considering that the Miraculous is repaired, it will not do any further damage.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: In the eighth chapter, Volpina reveals to Karasu that the battle is a distraction to push him to a point of akumatization...leading him to turn the tides entirely and singlehandedly defeat her.
- Dark Is Not Evil: Karasu's outfit consists of darker colors, such as black and grey, but he plays the hero card straight.
- Domino Mask: Like any other miraculous wielder, excluding Carapace and Mayura. It has a little beak, akin to Eagle's mask.
- Easily Forgiven: Despite believing all of Lila's lies, Marinette accepts her classmates' apologies.
- Enemy Mine: Cyril enlists the help of Marinette, Alya and Chloé to bring down Lila and her lies.
- Feather Flechettes: Karasu's miraculous tool is a lightweighted metal feather which he can use to shoot smaller feather projectiles, or to draw a black line that he can turn solid, making him capable of tying up enemies or moving around Paris quite easily.
- Glamour: The fact that quantum masking exists is brought up again in the third chapter.
- Invocation: "Coraxx, shadowrise!"
- "Coraxx, shadowfall." to detransform.
- Le Parkour: It is shortly mentioned in the third chapter that Karasu does that occasionally.
- Liar Revealed: Lila Rossi's lies are revealed because of Cyril, Marinette, Alya and Chloé.
- Cyril has indirectly caused Lila's expelling back in New York.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Karasu's eyes are dark red irises with dark purple sclera.
- Secret-Keeper: Karasu is promoted to one by Ladybug.
- It is revealed that Lila has been promoted to one by Gabriel.
- Karasu also tells Ladybug his secret identity in the last chapter.
- Shut Up, Hannibal!: Cyril to Lila, twice over the course of the story, to be exact.
- Sequel Hook: The story ends with Cyril returning to New York, seeing Eagle and Uncanny Valley doing patrol.
- Spanner in the Works: Cyril, in a way, is this to Lila. Lila's life in class could have been perfect and no one would ever caught her lies, if it was not for him.
- Temporary Blindness: Everyone that is affected by Karasu's blackout will find their sight darkened to a point they can only see themselves, while everything else is dark.
- The Cameo: Jess and Aeon (Eagle and Uncanny Valley respectively) both appear in the fourth chapter. They are mentioned in the last chapter again.
- Eagle visits Paris through Doorman's help in the last chapter - simply to spend some time with Karasu. After all, they had not seen each other in a year.
- This Means War!: Lila threatens Cyril that they would forever be at war, after latter managed to outsmart her and get her taken out of school. Cyril, however, dismisses it, saying it is the end of their rivality, implying that he won't care about her anymore.
- Time Skip: The last chapter plays eleven months after the eleventh chapter - to be exact, the last two days Cyril is in Paris.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Karasu to Volpina in the ninth chapter.Karasu: Look at yourself. If it was not for your blatant lies, nothing of this would have come that far. But of course, this wouldn't get into your little head of yours. Where did you go so wrong, Lila Rossi? Soon enough, Paris will find out about what you do. You are Hawk Moth’s complice. The complice of a terrorist that tried to cause a world war simply for jewelry. Is it really how you want your life to be told? Do you really want them to spit on your name?
Volpina: They...won't find out...
Karasu: Oh, but how long until they will? Everyone will turn on you. Your friends, probably even your family. Would it be worth the struggle? Well, for you, it probably is. But know such...no one can run endlessly. It is only a matter of time until your streak...breaks. - Villain Team-Up: Lila is revealed to still be actively working with Hawk Moth.
- Nathalie returned as Mayura, too.
- Villain: Exit, Stage Left: Mayura jumps from the rooftop in Chapter 8 and disappears instantly.
- You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Jessica encourages Cyril after latter feels like anyone could have done the feats he did.
