The Inner Senshi at Hogwarts.
Serenity Malfoy and the Hogwarts Education is a crossover fanfic between Harry Potter and Sailor Moon, written by Obloquy on Spacebattles.

As Queen Serenity lays dying, she prays for her daughter to be reborn in a loving family that will protect her. Unfortunately, she forgets to ensure this new family would be good people.

Wizarding World, meet Serenity Malfoy.

Contains the following tropes

  • Absurdly Elderly Father: Played for Drama with Holly Bryce, who's distressed by the prospect of her adoptive father Frank dying soon — something that has very high odds to happen, since he's already a septuagenarian.
  • Adaptational Angst Downgrade:
    • Because the Wizarding World monitored the Dursley household more closely and because Lita adores her baby cousin, Petunia and Vernon's neglect towards Harry couldn't reach the cartoonish levels of canon. He's still The Un-Favourite and aware of it, but at least he has his own bedroom and a Cool Big Sis.
    • Makoto Kino lost her parents in a plane crash. Lita Dursley still has her parents — they did go on a plane, but Lita's panic triggered her accidental magic and forced the plane to land.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Usagi Tsukino grew up loved and cherished by upstanding citizens who supported her, no matter what. Serenity Malfoy knows her parents love her yet would have wanted for her to be different, and is deeply distressed by the hints about her dad being a criminal.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job:
    • Petunia isn't blonde here, as she dyed her auburn hair to make herself different from her sister Lily. She stops doing so after giving birth to the redhead Lita.
    • Amy Anderson only starts donning sapphire blue hair in her second year to honour her Sorting in Ravenclaw — she's actually a brunette.
  • Adaptation Origin Connection: The Philosopher's Stone that is hidden at Hogwarts during Harry's first year actually belongs to Albus Dumbledore.
  • All-Loving Hero: Serenity, who else? She's nothing but lovely towards other students no matter their blood status, is a Benevolent Boss for house elves, and created a whole new field study in Charms merely because she wanted to cheer the ghosts.
  • Awful Truth:
    • Serenity really, really doesn't want to believe Luna when the Moon cat tries to gently break out to her that Lucius and Narcissa supported a genocidal megalomaniac, to the point that she forbids Luna to talk about it again.
    • Petunia told her daughter that her aunt Lily died in a plane crash. Then Lita went to Hogwarts and heard how her baby cousin Harry became the Boy-Who-Lived — and she's nothing but horrified to learn her aunt was forced to do a Heroic Sacrifice.
  • Cool Teacher: Setsuna Meioh as the Defence teacher for the 1990-1991 schoolyear. Everyone is very disappointed to see her go after her term.
  • Disappeared Dad:
    • Mina Lovegood's mother is firmly tight-lipped regarding her father's identity. It leads Narcissa to suspect the woman from having indulged in an affair with a married man since Peregrina would have no qualms admitting having sex with a Muggle or a wizard bachelor.
    • Amy Anderson was raised by her surgeon mother without help. Narcissa actually considers that a good thing, as Amy might have a wizard as a father instead of being a Muggleborn.
  • Death by Childbirth: Miyabi Black doesn't survive her son's birth. It causes major trauma for her daughter Rei and her husband Leo.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Squibs in the Wizarding World are basically treated as heavily handicapped. Narcissa and Lucius went down to pieces as they wondered if their daughter was one, Walburga Black sneers at her nephew Leo for marrying Miyabi when she's unable to use a wand, and Squib children tend to be kept away from wizarding society and sent to Muggle schools in which nobody will look down upon them.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: As they start exploring the forbidden corridor, Serenity and her friends are operating on the belief that Professor Meioh left the obstacles for them to test their Defence abilities — a logical assumption since the woman did that for the exams.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Queen Serenity wanted for her daughter's new parents to love her, and her wish was granted. However, it's deconstructed since their idea of how the world should function heavily clashes with Serenity's ingrained morals, causing her much distress.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: The Malfoys used to think Voldemort's toxic ideology and terrorism campaign in Britain was a wonderful idea, yet they explicitely told Serenity she absolutely shouldn't think about using Blood Magic.
  • Exact Words: Queen Serenity wished for her daughter to be reborn in a loving family. Unfortunately, she forgot to ask for these new parents to have morals in line with good values...
  • Family Relationship Switcheroo: Because Lita considers herself more of a Cool Big Sis to Harry, everyone assumes he's her brother and not a cousin — helping to disguise his identity as the Boy-Who-Lived.
  • Fantastic Racism: Pureblood families apparently murdered their Squib children for failing to wield magic — the tradition waned in modern days but Squib children still are discarded in the Muggle world. Yet it's far better accepted for a wizard or a witch to marry a Squib than a Muggle, since a Squib can hope for magic grandchildren.
  • Flat-Earth Atheist: Sibyl Trelawney has made ten prophecies carefully recorded, fully establishing her credentials as a Seer. In spite of that, her colleague Minerva Macgonagall insists that Divination is hogwash, something that deeply annoys Sibyl.
  • Functional Magic: It turns out that wizardry and witchcraft are two different branches of magic. Wizardry is magic based on a Magic Wand specializing on Charms, Transfiguration and Wizard Duel while witchcraft is wandless magic based on potions, herbology and arithmancy.
  • Generation Xerox: Lita Dursley is a spunky green-eyed, redhaired witch from Muggle stock, just like her aunt Lily Evans.
  • Muggle Born of Mages: Squibs are very much viewed as shameful in the Wizarding World, to the point that Lucius and Narcissa despaired over the possibility of their child being one and rejoiced when she got a letter for Hogwarts. Miyabi Black also was one, but her children are magic and her husband is quite proud of that.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Rather than being synonymous with magic, witchcraft and wizardry are actual two different branches of magic and that only recently has those terms become gendered.
  • One Degree of Separation:
    • Darien Shields lost his parents in the Frame-Up that saw twelve people killed and Sirius Black condemned to Azkaban.
    • With her father being Alphard Black's son, Rei is a cousin to the Malfoy children and Sirius Black.
  • One-Steve Limit: Downplayed with Minerva Lovegood who goes by "Mina", so it's easy to differentiate her from Minerva Macgonagall.
  • Parents as People:
    • Lucius and Narcissa shower their children with love and wants for them to grow up happy and blossom as powerful witch and wizard. Unfortunately, their opinion about Muggles and how to treat them clashes with Serenity's ingrained morals, and she's painfully aware of the fact that they think she will never be an impressive witch, merely because her magic isn't "flashy".
    • Petunia and Vernon dote on their biological children while shunning their nephew, and their distaste for magic cause a lot of unease between them and Lita.
    • Leo Black thinks it's a terrific idea to let Rei believe he's a blood-purist in the hopes that she will rebel against his authority and the ever-present Fantastic Racism. However, she's at least conflicted about hating him, especially because she knows he's still mourning her mother.
  • Power Incontinence: A major problem with Rei, since she's gifted in fire-manipulation. After her mother suffered Death by Childbirth, her control issues flared with a vengeance and endangered her newborn brother, forcing her father to send her to her grandfather in order to fix the issue.
  • Raised by Grandparents: When Rei's unstable fire-manipulation endangered her infant brother, her father acknowledged he couldn't help her and asked for her maternal grandfather to take her in and teach her control. Rei quickly grew to enjoy her new living arrangements and is pretty upset about attending Hogwarts as a consequence.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Both Serenity and Lita are warm, compassionate and empathic girls, while their younger brothers Draco and Dudley are quite spoiled and bratty.
  • Vain Sorceress: Mina loves her beauty products and charms. Botanics is her least favorite school subject because of the dirt and the destroyed nails.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Animagery, which gives the user nearly complete immunity to tracking charms due to Loophole Abuse. When Dumbledore tried to track Sirius Black using Blood Magic it failed because he was in dog form, and even alchemy was not able to accomplish it, and other charms failed because it was impossible to distinguish a dog from seals as both are a type of canine.
