Rude Awakening: Redux
is a High School D×D fanfiction published on March 26, 2018 and written by RedXEagl3.
The story begins with the protagonist, Roland, falling from the air seemingly out of nowhere. With nothing but rags for clothing and a broken arm, he walks aimlessly around the forest he suddenly found himself in. Hours pass, and just when it looks like he found civilization, he is attacked and murdered by an abomination. Fortunately, this is not the end of Roland's tale, as he is sucked into a world beyond his imagining.
Tropes that apply to this fanfiction are:
- Ascended Extra: Several major characters are minor or background characters in canon. Most notable of these are Seekvaira Agares, Alivian, and Bafeel Furcas.
- Cannon Fodder: Most of the minions that follow Iudex are this. Most of them die with minimal effort.
- Deadpan Snarker: Roland a majority of the time, though Seekvaira gets a few in too.
- Eating the Eye Candy: Bafeel openly admits doing this to Roland. Roland himself is guilty of this from time to time.
- No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Roland when he fights the stray devil that murdered him.
- Trapped in Another World: It's quite obvious that Roland isn't from the universe High School D×D takes place in, even discounting appearing out of no where in a place he's never been, he's also technically traveled back in time as well.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Bafeel and Seekvaira are shown to have this kind of relationship. Later on Seekvaira and Roland develop one as well.
