A hypothetical version of Kingdom Hearts III, the fic details Sora and his friends' final journey to save "those who are hurting" as Xehanort makes his return.
The author has also produced three other fics, both set in this one's continuity: Another Side, Another Story, which details Riku's side of the first game, Radiant Days, Hollow Nights, a series of short stories set in Hollow Bastion/Radiant Garden at several different points in the timeline, and The Dark Heart Rises, which serves as an Origins Episode for Xehanort that details his Start of Darkness.

- All Animals Are Dogs: Kyra's pet fox, Rusty, tends to act like a dog and, at times, a cat, often wagging his tail and barking.
- Badass Normal: West is the only member of Sora's group with no real magical aptitude or powers, with the exception of her Limit Break, but is able to keep up with them through her pickpocketing and knife skills.
- Bloodier and Gorier: While not overly violent, several characters visibly bleed when injured at times, a direct contrast to the games' Bloodless Carnage.
- Curtains Match the Window: West has brown eyes and hair.
- Cute Clumsy Girl: West; her first scene in Reconnected chapter 8 has her tripping over a piece of wood.
- Genki Girl: West is established as very perky and enthusiastic.
- Girlish Pigtails: West's default hairstyle.
- Hairstyle Inertia: West has worn her hair in twin pigtails since age 6.
- Honor Among Thieves: West is a pickpocket, but largely limits her targets to those who have hurt her; for example, stealing potions and items from enemies in the heat of battle. She is also a perky Genki Girl who serves as Riku's Love Interest and easily fits in with Sora and his True Companions.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: West is unable to remember anything before she arrived in Traverse Town at age six, including her real name. It's revealed in Reconnected chapter 47 that said amnesia may not be entirely natural, as some form of mystical mental block prevents Naminé from delving back into her memories and helping her remember.

- In chapter 13, West lets out one when Aerith reveals that her shoulder wound may be infected with darkness.
- In chapter 35, Cloud lets out one of his own when Phil announces that his, Herc's, and Sora's opponent in the Games is Lightning.
- Easily Forgiven: In chapter 37, Sora, having seen that Lightning was just Hades' Unwitting Pawn, is quick to forgive her for nearly killing him and asks if she will come with them to stop Hades. Lightning is quick to lampshade it:Lightning: Are you kidding me?! I tried to kill you not even five minutes ago and you already forgive me enough to go on this mission with you?! Are you always this trusting?
- The Fog of Ages: In chapter 48, Sora, Riku, Kairi, and West meet Clarabell Cow, Horace Horsecollar, and Clara Cluck; Sora, having met their Timeless River counterparts during the events of Kingdom Hearts II, is disappointed to discover that they have no clear memories of the Timeless River days, it having been sixty years since then, but nonetheless comforted to discover they vaguely remember him.
- Healing Hands: In chapter 13, Kairi discovers she has this power when she inadvertently heals and purifies West's darkness-infected bullet wound, which she received from Braig in the previous chapter.
Another Side, Another Story
- Another Side, Another Story: It's the title of the fic.
- CPR: Clean, Pretty, Reliable: After West is nearly drowned by Ursula in Atlantica, Riku swims her to the surface and revives her with CPR, reflecting that it was mandatory for everyone on the Destiny Islands to learn it.
- Hero of Another Story: The fic details what Riku was doing during the events of Kingdom Hearts.
Radiant Days, Hollow Nights
- Flash Forward Fic: Some chapters details life over 21 years after the events of Kingdom Hearts II, giving snippets on the adventures of Avalon, daughter of Sora and Kairi, and the other children of Sora's gang.
- Villainous Crush: In the Flash Forward Fic chapters, it's shown that Tenebrae, the villain, lusts after Avalon.
The Dark Heart Rises
