Go To

Psyche Soldier is a Persona 5 fanfic written by Righteous Maximus on AO3. The general premise is that the main character is female, and proceeds from there. This page contains spoilers for P5, P 5 R, and the fic as a whole.

This fic provides examples of:

  • Adaptation: Yeah, it’s a retelling.
  • Action Girl: Akira and the rest of the PT barring Futaba.
  • Adapted Out: Jose.
  • Adults Are Useless: Relatively averted. While most of the adults are useless, Labrys is an adult and does things, and we see the older Confidants pitching in at the end.
  • Advertisement:
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Maruki.
  • Battle Couple: Akira and Kasumi, Ryuji and Ann.
  • Break the Cutie: Akira goes through the ringer in the third semester.
  • Big Eater: Akira manages to polish off a Big Bang challenge in less than ten minutes.
  • Canon Immigrant: Labrys shows up from P4.
  • Central Theme: Making your own family
  • Completed Fic
  • The Conspiracy: Shido and Yaldy, like in canon.
  • Crossover: We get cameos of Dante and Lady from DMC, Alucard from Castlevania, and Jotaro and Kakyoin from JOJO’s
  • Demoted to Extra: many of the non-PT confidants rarely show up, but are mentioned.
  • Downer Ending: Akira sees a bit of this when Maruki is controlling her, showing her what life would have been like if things didn’t turn out well.
  • Early Installment Weirdness: Some bits show up before being adapted out, such as Akira’s memories of another timeline and access to high-end Personas.
  • Advertisement:
  • Elemental Powers: The Thieves’ Personas, as in canon
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Who doesn’t have a crush on Akira?
  • Foreshadowing: Pops up. One key moment is when the audience sees Maruki awaken to Azathoth.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Akira, mostly. She’s good, but she can be quite harsh.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: It’s persona.
  • Hurting Hero: Akira, in the third semester.
  • It's Personal: Third semester, given Akira and Maruki’s familial relationship.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Akechi, regrettably.
  • Karma Houdini: Maruki, like in canon.
  • Killed Off for Real: Akechi. Unlike canon, there is no post scene where you see a glimpse of him, so he’s dead.
  • Large Ham: Many. most of the shadow bosses and Akira at times.
  • Magic Knight: The Thieves, like in canon. Some value magic more than others, however.
  • Messianic Archetype: Minako, when she appears in a side chapter, as per usual.

  • Meaningful Echo: Several phrases are repeated for emphasis, and the start and relative end both feature Maruki dropping Akira off at a train station.
  • Mythology Gag: Aside from the Q2 chapter, there are references to P3, P4, and even P2.
  • Named by the Adaptation: We get the names of Akira’s family.
  • Official Couple: Akira/Kasumi, Ryuji/Ann.
  • Original Character: Akira's parents, grandmother, fiance, and the rest of Akira's hometown.
  • Parental Substitute: Sojiro for both Futaba and Akira.
  • Physical God: It’s Persona.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Akira is quite short.
  • Power Incontinence: Akira can’t summon Satanael right after Christmas.
  • The Promise: Akira promises to come back at the end. She eventually does.
  • Put on a Bus: Labrys does not show up during the epilogue, having left Tokyo after all that happened. The Thieves don’t blame her.
  • Remember the New Guy?: This fic uses the original Kasumi, the one who died in canon, but she acts mostly like canon Sumire, which makes sense.
  • Running Gag: Several. These include making fun of recent anime, the phrase 'an honest-to-cat human', and others.
  • Say My Name: Lots of it.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: As in canon.
  • Sequel Hook: For Strikers.
  • Ship Tease: Akira with Makoto, Ryuji, and Kasumi.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: The epilogue, and Akira not forgiving Maruki.
  • Thicker Than Water: One of the main themes.
  • Walking Spoiler: Labrys and Kasumi (at least for the main game).
  • Wham Line: "But your will - your power, your Wild Card - is mine . Maybe a glimpse of how bad life is will make you see.”
  • Wham Episode: Third Semester.
  • What If?: several - Akira is a girl, Maruki is her uncle, both Yoshizawa siblings live, and Labrys shows up.

How well does it match the trope?
