Fanfic / Playing With Legos

Playing with Lego's[sic] is a Supreme Commander/Worm crossover fanfic by Potato Nose.

In response to the bullying, Taylor gets the idea to build the perfect cleaning device, but she's not long into using it when a mysterious supervillain kidnaps her, convinced she can do so much more.

He's right.

By the time her ordeal is over, she has become convinced that the only way to fix the system is to become a Seraph...

And yes, unlike the rest of the competition, she does get her ACU.

This fanfic was completed on December 7th, 2016.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Adults Are Useless: Averted. Mr Laborn is the only adult on Taylor's team and The Team Normal at that, but his experience and maturity serve a vital role by giving much-needed perspective.
  • Anticlimax: Scion/Zion is Killed Offscreen by Taylor's army.
  • Ascended Extra: Mr Laborn, Aisha and Brian's father.
  • And I Must Scream: In 78, Taylor and Armsmaster rescue Alabaster from 11 days of regenerating, drowning, regenerating, drowning again...
  • Bittersweet Ending: Scion is killed, but not before he makes Earth uninhabitable from the collateral damage of his trying to kill Taylor and co. All the remaining parahumans who weren't killed in the fighting were De Powered as a result. Abaddon and the Seraphim are on their way to Earth with most likely hostile intentions. However, Taylor did manage to get a few thousand people off the planet, meaning humanity will endure, and with 10 years of prep time they just might be able to beat the incoming threats.
  • Big Fancy Gun: Shotgun Wesley uses a weapon that Taylor compares to "the mutant offspring of an elephant gun and a double barrel shotgun that then spent a few years on steroids." He has to make his own ammunition for it, since it doesn't take anything like standard calibres, and calls it Big Susan. The report is uncomfortably loud even from a street away.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Amidst the chaos of someone attacking her base in 76, Taylor gets an eyeful of Brian and his father without their shirts on. She has trouble thinking for a moment, though they thankfully don't notice.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Taylor does not appreciate it when people call her Livewire or Terawatt, the cape names given by Coil and the PRT, respectively.
  • Forced to Watch: The three words Scion/Zion tells Contessa and Doctor Mother before dragging them through devastated Earths are "You will watch."
  • Game Changer: Taylor finally finishing a T1 Engineer in 76 obsoletes everything she's done up to that point and what follows afterwards very quickly pushes her from playing around at street level with the riffraff to becoming the planetary-level superpower a Supreme Commander faction is supposed to be. Also applies in the meta sense as this also made the fic the first Supreme Commander/Worm crossover where Taylor actually operates at strategic level.
  • Guilt-Free Extermination War: In the backstory, an Entity found a way to access the Quantum Realm and destroyed a Seraphim settlement, prompting the Seraphim to retaliate with extreme prejudice. Both sides want each other dead. Scion/Zion is a descendant of many generations of Entities that have survived Seraphim attacks. His reaction to seeing Taylor's ACUs is to go into killing mode and forget about the collateral damage his attacks will inflict on the cycle and mankind.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Armsmaster may be quite prideful, have No Social Skills, and very stubborn, but he does mean well. When they are forced to unmask Taylor by removing her suit to heal her, he stops by later and reveals his identity to her as an apology. And while he is rather rude and blunt when trying to get her to obey the various rules while she is trying to help people after Leviathan's attack, Dragon manages to calm him down, and he explains that he's trying to keep her safe from any potential legal issues and trying to keep the public safe in case there is an issue with her tech. He also tells her that, as a fellow Tinker, he is forced to abide by the same rules, understands they are a hassle, but points out it is the only way for the government to protect the public from potential issues with tinker tech should it go haywire.
  • Killed Offscreen:
    • Regent and Bitch are killed by Lung in retaliation for the Casino Heist before Taylor ever meets them.
    • Word of God confirmed that the Slaughterhouse Nine were collateral damage of Scion's rampage.
  • Meaningful Rename: To show that they are leaving their past as villains and members of the Undersiders behind, Tattletale and Grue change their cape names to AWACS and Blackout, respectively.
  • Mundane Utility: Taylor initially builds a miniature D gun to use as a cleaning tool. She also uses her fabricator to construct extremely comfortable chairs that adjust to every motion of the body, something the Protectorate heroes and even Lung note.
  • N.G.O. Superpower: Taylor officially becomes this after making her T1 Engineer. Within hours of starting production, she's able to launch 800 single-use fighters at the Simurgh. Congress actually meets to discuss how to respond to such a action (thinking the fighters were missiles).
  • No, Mr. Bond, I Expect You to Dine: In 8, Coil makes Taylor join him for dinner.
  • Pummeling the Corpse: Upon hearing that Coil was responsible for the death of half the Undersiders and his body is just outside the door, Grue steps outside to kick him several times.
  • Running Gag: "This chair is really comfortable."
  • Sequel Hook: The Seraphim are watching Taylor's progress with intent to visit in 11 years, while Abaddon is also returning to the solar system in 10.
  • Shout-Out: Lisa and Brian joke about various names Taylor could take, and one of them is The Techno Queen.
    • When Lung starts residing in the refugee camp that Seraph built, his musings on how the balance of power in Brockton Bay has shifted dramatically are interrupted twice by his thoughts on how comfortable his new chair is, a shoutout to the popular fan meme of Lung enjoying a Laz-E Boy armchair.
  • That Man Is Dead: With her links to her old life dead, Taylor rejects her birth name, instead going by Seraph.
  • Wham Episode:
    • 6, where Taylor gets abducted.
    • 90. Taylor's powers don't come from a shard, but from Seraphim nanites.
    • 94. Scion destroys an ACU after seeing it and proceeds to begin Gold Morning ahead of schedule.
