Fanfic / Phantoms of the Bay

Go To

Phantoms of the Bay is a fanfic by Flameal15k, and is a crossover between Worm and the Persona franchise, primarily Persona 5.

When circumstances alter so that Taylor receives the power of the wildcard instead of her canon Pest Controller powers, she decides to roll with it and use them to save the bay. At least, that was the plan....Spacebattles Thread

  • Adaptational Badass: A slightly downplayed example for Taylor. See Adaptational Superpower Change below for more details.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Due to the nature of the crossover, Taylor gets the powers of the wildcard from Persona instead of her canon Pest Controller ability. At least at first... Quickly subverted, as QA still allowed her to trigger, giving her both her canon move-set and the ability of her persona. However, due to the bond Taylor and QA share, QA is able to expand that power to include control over birds in addition to bugs, with the implication that it will continue to get stronger as Taylor empowers the Judgement Arcana.
  • Ascended Extra: Greg goes from being a barely noticeable character to one of the founding members of the Phantom Thieves.
    • Danny also ends up joining the thieves' ranks.
    • And QA as well!.
  • Big Damn Heroes: The Undersiders show up to help Bitch take out some Empire 88 mooks... only for Taylor to have stolen their thunder and curb-stomping them while she's at it in her first official appearance as a cape.
  • The Cavalry Arrives Late: The Undersiders show up to help Bitch fight off Rune and se Empire 88 Mooks, but by the time they get there, Taylor and QA have already set the Empire packing.
  • Code Name: Taylor and her team have these (which also function as their cape identities):
    • Taylor is Owl/Weaver.
    • Greg is Morgan (after the horse breed).
    • QA is Silk.
    • Danny currently doesn’t have one.
  • Cowboy: Greg's motif, unsurprisingly.
  • Foil:
    • Taylor is one to all other Persona protagonists. Like all of the previous wild cards, Taylor is a relative outsider amongst her fellow students, and is the leader of her team. There are ''plenty of differences though.
    • Danny is also one to Ryotaro Dojima and Sojiro Sakura. Unlike the latter, he's related by blood to the Wild Card of this story. Unlike the former, he tries to make time for his daughter, even if he is unsuccessful in bonding with her. Unlike both, he eventually gets dragged into the Metaverse and escape being Locked Out of the Loop.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Noted both In and Out of Universe - In-Universe, Taylor is well aware that trying to steal Sophia's heart will inevitably put her on the warpath with the Protectorate and the PRT. Out of universe, readers have noted that Taylor's powerset, team name, and (likely) higher success rate will turn the public against her (with the latter being especially important for PR reasons, as the Protectorate can't really afford to appear impotent at catching criminals).
  • Historical Domain Character: Greg's initial persona is Billy the Kid.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Averted for Danny - not only does he find out Taylor has powers in the very first arc of the story, he ends up awakening his own persona in the exact same chapter. Later on, Taylor even tells him about her own shard powers from QA.
  • Named by the Adaptation: A variation - Miss Militia is given the last name of Moradi. Canonically, only her first name, Hannah, is given.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: Amongst the original personas introduced for this story is Sobek, an Egyptian Crocodile Deity.
  • Tarot Motifs: Given that this is a Persona crossover, this should be obvious:
    • Taylor Hebert represents the Fool.
    • Greg Veder and Morgana represents the Magician
    • Danny Hebert represents the Hierophant
    • Miss Militia represents the Justice Arcana.
    • Rachel Lindt/Bitch represents the Moon Arcana.
    • Queen Administrator represents Judgement.
  • Wham Episode: Interlude 1.x: The Caterpillar. The caterpillar Taylor encountered earlier in the arc, who becomes the final founding member of the Phantom Thieves, is Queen Administrator. And not only does said shard have a persona, but she's also still able to cause Taylor to trigger, without being noticed by Scion or the Simurgh, and thus lacking the Laser-Guided Amnesia.
