Examples

  • Badass Family: The Arisatos, with Minato and Minako having the Wild Card ability and Naoto's Persona having a wide range of abilities. And their children are no slouches, of course.
  • Badass in Charge: Mitsuru leaves the reigns of the Shadow Operatives in Aigis's hands, most of the time, but she's still the head. And of course, Aigis herself is no slouch.
  • Beach Episode: SPIES gets to visit Yakushima in August.
  • Bishōnen: Most of the male characters are this.
  • Call-Back: Of course, with the setting being Port Island.
    • For one, Hidetoshi is the homeroom teacher for the second years and Bebe is now the history teacher for Gekkoukan.
  • Central Theme: Restoring hope in oneself. All of the characters have lost hope and faith in the world somehow and throughout the story, it's restored.
  • Childhood Friends: All of the main characters have this, as their parents have stayed on Port Island/Inaba for the most part after starting their families.
  • Advertisement:
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Yukio/Satomi and Hiro/Mikoto.
  • Class Trip: They go to Shibuya of all places, rather than Kyoto.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Out of the main cast, Satomi has varying shades of red and pink, Hinata has pale pink, Kaito has black, Yukio has gold, Ruri is teal, Tetsuo is blue, Mikoto has indigo, Hiro has red, Reika has purple, and Mamoru is green.
  • The Comically Serious: Kaito does want to take the investigations seriously but his friends derail his attempts.
    • And naturally, Naoto and Ken play this role for the adults.
  • Custom Uniform: Almost everyone customizes their uniform, save for Satomi. The P4 kids has a tendency to customize their uniform more, having a bit of a distaste for how much more formal the uniform is to the Yasogami uniform.
  • Disappeared Dad: Minato, for obvious reasons.
    • Satomi's father is also unknown, though unlike the twins, she doesn't really lament over how she doesn't know him.
  • Doomed Hometown: Port Island seems to be getting this, especially with the Shadow nest trying to replace the real world.
  • Elemental Powers: All of them.
  • Everyone Can See It: Yukio/Satomi and Hiro/Mikoto get hit with this especially hard.
    • In the latter's case, it doesn't help that Mikoto gets tongue tied with Hiro a lot in the beginning.
  • Family Theme Naming: Shinji and Fuuka's daughters are all named with flowers in mind.
  • Girly Bruiser: Reika is this especially. She's a feminine tomboy but is the main hard hitter.
  • Happily Adopted: Raiden, Satomi's adoptive little brother, and Hikari, Ken and Nanako's adoptive daughter.
  • Henpecked Husband: Kanji and Junpei are mild examples.
  • High-School Sweethearts: Yu/Rise, Akihiko/Minako, and Shinjiro/Fuuka all fit this. Yosuke and Chie have known each other since high school but they don't start dating until after university.
    • Minato and Yukari probably would have been the same, had Minato not died, seeing that Minato had given her a promise ring shortly before the fight with Nyx.
  • In-Series Nickname: Yukio mostly calls Tetsuo "Tetsu".
    • The IT kids also call Reika "Rei" sometimes.
    • Kaito rarely uses Hinata's full name, opting for "Hina".
  • In the Blood: Averted. The various Fools' children are all considered quite powerful but none of them possess the Wild Card. However, Kaito's Arcana is Death, an arcana greatly associated with his father.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Reika and Touya are especially this, since they are close despite the year gap between their ages. However, Reika has more interest in girls.
  • Noodle Incident: How exactly Ken revealed that he's a Persona-user to the Phantom Thieves after meeting them. It's only mentioned that the Phantom Thieves staked him out, due to his resemblance to Goro Akechi.
    • And that Shinjiro ended up nailing Ryuji in the face with a wok.
  • Only Sane Man: Ruri is usually stuck with this role.
  • The Quiet One: Ruri is this, though she can talk a lot when she feels like this.
  • Someone to Remember Him By: Hinata and her older brother Kaito are this to Yukari.
  • Truly Single Parent: Mitsuru has no interest in marriage, but that didn't stop her from getting a sperm donor to have Satomi.
  • Tsundere: Ruri is a type B.
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Ruri has Fuuka's teal hair and Hinata has blue hair like Minato.
    • Mikoto's hair is black most of the time but looks blue in certain lightings.
