"After the events of episode four Clementine's situation only gets worse, that is until she is given a second chance to make things right. Sent back in time to the events of episode three, Clementine must prevent the deaths of her friends and make dangerous deals with the devil himself, while making new friends along the way."

No Going Back? and Spoils of War are both riveting Peggy Sue Fanfics of The Walking Dead. The hero of Season 2 has to go back in time to stop things from becoming the way they are now. She must save some friends, meet some new ones, and sacrifice some for the greater good. Will she get the happy ending that she so desperately wants?

These two fanfics provide examples of:

  • Bittersweet Ending: Jane and other characters die on the journey to taking over Carver's camp and the remaining characters are obviously affected by that (e.g. Stephanie feels horrible over Shel's death).
  • Crapsack World: Lots of decent human beings die, society is in ruins, and there is some hope, but not always. Even if the protagonists do try to rebuild society, it is still very easy for something to go wrong, as shown in Ruin to Redemption.
  • Downer Beginning: Near the beginning of No Going Back? Clementine's group dies off and she commits suicide.
  • Grey-and-Gray Morality: Although Clem's group is pretty bad, Carver is definitely worse.
  • Hurt/Comfort Fic: The fanfiction is partially labeled as this and contains much about the characters helping as much as hurting one another.
  • Our Time Travel Is Different: The second chance thing only seems to happen after you die.
  • Peggy Sue: The whole fanfic is all about how Clementine went back in time to stop certain people from dying.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: After Clementine dies near the beginning of No Going Back?, the story shows that she remembers the end of the original timeline and everything that led up to it. She vows to change that no matter what now that she has more knowledge of things to come.
  • Title Drop: There are a couple of times where the title is mentioned, such as near the end of Chapter 51 and Chapter 52.
