N7 SOLDIER (FFN version) by ScreamingViking

A crossover fic between Final Fantasy VII and Mass Effect taking place after the defeat of the reapers but during Crisis Core.

The Crucible dumps Shepard on Gaia. The first human Spectre becomes the first female SOLDIER as well as their first elite Sniper. Her uncanny ability to bring reason to unreasonable situations will alter the fate of the entire planet, but especially that of her three First Class friends. "You can pay a soldier to fire a gun. You can pay him to charge the enemy and take a hill. But you can't pay him to believe."

N7 Soldier contains examples of:

  • Action Girl: Shepard, an infiltrator and biotic sniper, becomes the first female member of Soldier and opens the door for more female members in the military.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Sephiroth and Shepard.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When the reapers return and it seems like there's no hope of stopping them. Admiral Raan comes to the rescue with a Quarian and Geth fleet.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Angeal and Zack with the addition of Shepard and Kunsel.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: What happens to the Soldiers that go into Deepground.
  • Father to His Men: Shepard becomes a mother to the infantry troops when she realizes just how young and poorly trained they are.
  • Friendly Sniper: Shepard who later trains Kunsel, is another example.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Sephiroth has to balance what is loyal to Shinra vs what is loyal to Soldier. It's for this reason he gets Locked Out of the Loop a lot by Shepard.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Genesis, having inadvertently helped bring the Reapers to Midgar, sacrifices himself to give everyone time to escape.
  • Talking the Monster to Death: Shepard masters a phoenix summon, not through combat, but by talking. Genesis is incredulous that it worked.
  • What Have I Become?: Angeal is not happy about growing a wing, unsure if he can even be called human anymore.
  • What Measure Is A Nonhuman: Brought up multiple times as the parentage of the First Class soldiers comes out. Shepard, having been around nonhumans and having to deal with her own implants, is insistent that even being nonhuman isn't that bad.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Invoked throughout the fic but most apparent when Shepard refuses to raze an unarmed village. It's pointed out that no one would know, to which she replies: "We would."
