"Don't worry," Naruto had said with a rapacious grin; even after more than a decade of marriage it disarmed Hinata without fail. "Nothing is going to fall apart if you take a month or two off. Trust me: you could use the vacation."

- Chapter 1, A Sort Of Vacation

With Naruto's encouragement and a solemn promise he'll take care of the children while she's gone, Hinata agrees to take a kind of vacation with her old team. Team 8 sets course for NGL, happy to be on a mission together once more, even if it is something as mundane as investigating insects. They have no idea what is waiting for them in the world beyond their own.

Crossing over the very similar yet different series of Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto and Hunter × Hunter by Yoshihiro Togashi, Myrmidon by Ser Serendipity focuses not only on the fast paced action of both universes, but the cultural differences as well.

This series provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Villainy: Shaiapouf, who already was a nasty piece of work in canon, decides that it would be a great idea to murder his fellow Royal Guards (specifically Pitou) in the insane hope that Meruem will favor him for his loyalty.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Shino gets his right leg and arm torn off by Neferpitou after he jumps in to protect Hinata from Pitou's attack. While he gets to reattach his leg via his kikaichu, his arm is taken by Pitou as food to nourish the King with.
  • Ax-Crazy: Shaiapouf's always had a few screws loose under his facade of sophistication, but this fic brings that side of him up to the forefront with his mad devotion to the King and how that skews his perception of reality.
  • Badass Family: The Uzumaki Family. With the husband being the strongest ninja in the world, the wife an heiress to the strongest clan in their home village, and two precious kids who are naturally talented compared to their parents at a similar age, they sure have their badass credentials down pat.
  • Berserk Button: Naruto and Hinata do not take kindly to those who would dare threaten their family, which Meruem learns after he attempts to rile up Naruto through the Ninshu link they have during their battle.
  • Break the Haughty: Naruto and Kurama inflict this on Meruem in spectacular fashion during their fight by forcing the Ant King to acknowledge that he isn't all that significant in the grand scheme of things.
  • Cruel Mercy: Gon, sensing that Neferpitou has become a Death Seeker after Meruem's surrender, decides to let her live when he and Killua run into her again since killing her would be giving the former Royal Guard exactly what she wants, and for him, the best form of revenge for Kite's death is to make sure that Pitou suffers for her actions.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • Meruem's fight against the Hunters and the Shinobi after chasing them. The reason why it's such a curb-stomp is that they were nearly defeated by a single shadow clone from the Ant King.
    • Sasuke vs the Royal Guard. Sasuke takes them out in two moves.
  • Deflector Shields: The Rotation technique of the Hyūga clan, which creates a barrier of energy. It saves Hinata's life more than once.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation:
    • Cheetu is melted by Meruem's overwhelming chakra rather than crushed in an aerial attack by Silva.
    • Rather than die from Miniature Rose poisoning, Shaiapouf here gets most of his body obliterated by Neferpitou’s imitation of Hinata's Gentle Fist before Palm incinerates the last of his fragments with a flamethrower.
  • Divide and Conquer: The Hunter Organization's plan in dealing with the Ant threat.
  • Equivalent Exchange: Clara's Nen ability, Give and Take, operates on the basis of her giving up a memory she has in exchange for one from the target she's linked to.
  • Evil Gloating: Practically an Ant requirement, regardless of the losses they've faced.
  • From Bad to Worse: Not only is the King still born, like in canon, but the King now has enough chakra to rival the Tailed Beasts!
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • Hinata detecting Illumi's needle with her Byakugan allows Killua to rip it out of his brain much earlier.
    • Kite being revealed to be Dead All Along after his battle with Neferpitou causes Gon to jump straight to swearing revenge on Pitou.
      • Since Gon already knows that Kite is dead, he just settles for landing a good solid hit on Neferpitou during his and Kilua's fight against her rather than sacrifice everything to make himself strong enough to kill her and later decides to let her live so she can suffer even more.
    • Meruem and his Royal Guard decide to leave the palace after they pick up on how Hinata is watching them, forcing the shinobi and hunters to fight them much earlier.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: In spectacular fashion. While they achieve greater success than in canon against the initial Ant Forces, they also fall prey to a Simple, yet Awesome counter attack by the Ants due to some overconfidence. Neferpitou rips off Shino's arm and badly injured Hinata, thus allowing the King access to Chakra on the scale of Tailed Beasts.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Due to Hinata's constant surveillance of the Ant Hive, they've built her up to be a boogeyman equivalent known as The Watcher.
  • It's All About Me: Practically Mereum’s slogan, though he later grows out of it thanks to Naruto.
  • Made of Iron: Hunters, Ninjas, and Ants all qualify. Their fights typically involve abilities and attacks that would pulp normal people. The stronger characters such as Netero, Hinata with Hamura's chakra, and Meruem exceed even others of their kind thanks to the sheer power they can muster.
  • Mind Rape: Dear GOD does Meruem inflict this on Hinata during their conversation at the palace thanks to the Ninshu link they share, with the Ant King simply invading Hinata's mind with impunity and forcing her to feel the taste of her own daughter's flesh.
  • No-Sell: The King tanks a direct Gentle Fist blow to the face by Hinata and shows no signs of it registering as anything other than an annoyance. Since Gentle Fist was created as a way to disrupt chakra pathways while inducing organ damage, and shown to work on even Nen... she is quite alarmed.
  • Obstructive Zealot: Clara. Considering she synced up her mind into the Hunter universe's form of the God Tree, this is to be almost expected.
  • Poor Communication Kills: It's not easy, but Team 8 specifically wants to avoid this from occurring while working with the Hunters. It's not completely successful, but points for trying.
  • The Reveal: Oh so many. Team 8 reveals their inter dimensional origins to the Hunter Association. There are multiple Shinju in this dimension as well. The King has chakra.
  • Sadist: Barring a few notable exceptions, most Ants we see enjoy inflicting pain on humans and each other.
  • Spared by the Adaptation:
    • Peggy is still alive to witness the Chimera Ant Queen's final moments since Meruem didn't murder him.
    • Meruem, Menthuthuyoupi, and Neterpitou get to live past the Chimera Ant War.
    • Netero never has to use the Poor Man's Rose implanted in him and gets to resign from his position as Chairman of the Hunter Association on his own terms.
    • All the Ants who aligned themselves with Meruem get to co-exist with humanity and have a new island home to themselves.
  • Taking the Bullet: Shino shoves Hinata aside after she is ambushed by Neferpitou so he can take the Royal Guard's attack in Hinata's place.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Despite superficial similarities, there are some major differences in how the Hunters and Ninja operate, cultural and ideological issues, and plenty of secrets held from each other when they initially start working together.
  • Undying Loyalty: The surviving Ants trust Youpi with their lives thanks to the Royal Guard choosing to make sure that they remained safe during the battle of Peijing even though he could have simply left them for dead. Youpi being Youpi, he's quite oblivious to how they also regard him as their new King.
  • "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: Chapter 39 has plenty of tidbits pertaining to what the cast is up to after the story's conclusion.
    • Neferpitou is Wandering the Earth as part of her journey of atonement and self-discovery.
    • Menthuthuyoupi is currently leading the surviving Chimera Ants as their de facto King.
    • Clara Megallane is still looking for the Shinju even after Hinata defeated her, and it's implied that she will steal knowledge pertaining to the portal between the worlds of Naruto and Hunter x Hunter for the sake of her goal with disastrous results.
    • Sasuke and Meruem are exploring the Dark Continent together as part of their investigation into the Shinju trees there.
    • Gon, Kilua, Alluka, and Netero are entering the Naruto universe for fun and adventure.
