Fanfic / My Wizarding Academia

Go To

A My Hero Academia and Harry Potter crossover by Emma Iveli, that combines the two in a rather interesting way.

With the rise of Quirks came the fall of the International Statute of Secrecy. Witches and Wizard are open about what they can do. Healers are common place in Muggle Hospitals, Quidditch and other wizard sports are really only sporting events thanks to quirks, and Magic Heroes are fairly common. Izuku Midoriya is one such wizard who dreams of being a hero. But unfortunately Japan isn't a magic friendly country and "Magiphobia" is very common among muggles. But after a villain attack he meets All Might, not only does All Might reassure him that he can be a hero as a wizard but also chosen to be his successor. With the help of All Might, his foul mouthed best friend, his very eccentric Heroism Tutor and new friends he'll make, he'll be the strongest magical hero that there ever was.

It can be read at: here

My Wizarding Academia contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Downplayed with Katsuki, while he is best friends with Izuku and deeply cares for him like a brother, he's still a hot head with a foul mouth.
  • Assimilation Academy: Mahoutokoro has this reputation, unless they're there to learn how to play Quidditch, then muggle-borns are indoctrinated to the old ways (IE: Acting the way it was before the Statue of Secrecy fell).
  • Badass Teacher: Along with the canon examples, there's also Tsubasa who is a magical pro hero and Izuku's heroism tutor who has been teaching him for years.
  • Berserk Button: Katsuki's is someone looking down on Izuku because he has magic and to a lesser extent someone besides Izuku calling him Kacchan.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Although they're not blood related, Katsuki towards Izuku.
  • Bigger on the Inside: Izuku has a desk drawer that's filled with multiple rooms, including a room that's as a big as a school gymnasium.
  • Broken Ace: Izuku is very skilled at magic, however due to being bullied he has severe self-esteem issues that not even his tutors and best friend can help him with, and it takes All Might to reassure him that he can be a hero.
  • Cool Teacher: While she is rather eccentric, her methods are often strange (and sometimes distressing) and has been called "crazy" at least once, Tsubasa is a good teacher, has taught Izuku quite a few things and she clearly cares about him.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • Izuku uses Harry's tactic from Tri-wizard Tournament during the Obstacle Race. As most of the obstacles were not built with fliers in mind, he easily bypasses most of the race course and wins.
    • Todoroki VS. Monoma during the Cavalry Battle... Monoma doesn't even get to finish his sentence before he's frozen.
    • Yaoyorozu VS Mineta... it's not really so much of a fight as it is revenge for both climbing on her back and the cheerleader prank.
  • Cuteness Proximity:
    • The girls of the class (and Koda) when Izuku properly shows off his Animagus form.
    • Ochaco with Izuku's pet Puffskein Purin.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Japan's magical government knows that All Might is a wizard, but believes he's a self-hating wizard whose Super-Strength comes from a spell, taking the fact that Izuku seems to be using the same spell as confirmation.
  • Expy: Between his general lack of skill in magic, status as a well-known hero, and signature spell of Obliviate, All Might is technically an expy of Lockhart, though he's actually done all of his heroic feats.
  • Fantastic Racism:
    • In Japan the relationship between Muggles and Wizards isn't very good, with most Muggle-Borns being sent to Mahoutokoro because they weren't born with quirks. Tsubasa also overhears some spectators during the Sports Festival disparaging Izuku for having magic. Not only that, but when Inko learns that Izuku is a wizard, the social services witch is initially cold to her until Inko admits that it doesn't matter if Izuku has a Quirk or not as long as he's happy, she's happy.
      • This goes both ways. An Auror that comes to check on Izuku after the fight with Stain attempts to convince him to change to a magical school and dismisses the big role Todoroki and Iida played in helping stop the Hero Killer. It's made obvious that, should the magical press mention it, they will credit only Izuku with the feat.
    • Averted in Britain, as due to what has been dubbed The Death Eater Wars, the relationship between wizards and muggles is quite healthy, including the fact that the current number 1 hero there is a wizard.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Katsuki and Kirishima during the USJ Incident, so much that he ends up joining the friend group afterwards for lunch and training in Izuku's training room.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • Katsuki's fall off the log turns out much differently. Izuku stops it with accidental magic, causing Katsuki to realize that Izuku is very powerful and is not just a something to live his quidditch dreams through.
    • The rooftop conversation with All Might goes much differently, as not only does All Might assure Izuku that as a wizard he can become a hero, but is also shocked that Izuku puts himself down so much after learning that he's a very skilled wizard.
    • The second Sludge Villain attack goes much differently. After Izuku's initial attack of the villain, he uses a Stunner on the villain completely and utterly defeating him, meaning All Might didn't have to do anything during the attack.
    • As he's there during the initial sludge villain attack, Katsuki is let in on the secret of One for All much sooner than canon.
    • As Izuku has magic and the robots didn't have any shielding against magic, Izuku got over 30 points before destroying the Zero Pointer putting him in first place.
    • Thanks to magic Izuku places fairly high in the Assessment Test (which also renamed Ability Assessment due to Izuku being a wizard).
    • Izuku remains as class representative due to being the one to reassure the students when the alarm went off.
    • Thanks to a combination of All Might being there from the start (thanks to a potion regimen that lets him retain his hero form longer) and Izuku sending out a Patronus to alert the school, both Aizawa and Thirteen are spared their injuries during the USJ incident as well as the staff showing up much sooner.
    • As he never uses it during the USJ incident, The League of Villains is unaware that Izuku is the current holder of One for All.
    • As she recognized the tactic that Izuku used during the first event of the Sports Festival, Tsuyu has the condition of joining Team Mineta during the Cavalry Battle to not go after the 10 Million Point Headband. This tactic ends up working in their favor and they end up going to the next round.
    • With Team Mineta taking one of the top spots in the Cavalry battle, the first round fights of the Tournament are much different.
    • In the first round of the tournament, Shinso, Yaoyorozu and Tsuyu (who didn't even make to the tournament in canon) make it to the second round, while Mina and Tokoyami don't.
    • Bakugou went to intern with Gang Orca instead of interning with Best Jeanist as canon.
  • Foreshadowing: A couple things All Might says during his first meeting with Izuku hint at the fact he's secretly a wizard.
  • Forgot About His Powers: During the second Sludge Villain attack, Izuku jumps in without using magic. Once his mouth is free Katsuki demands to know why Izuku didn't use it. Izuku would have face palmed had it not been for the fact that his best friend was still in danger.
  • Friendly Rival: Izuku and Katsuki. While they're as close as brothers but they both know to push the other to give it their all while fighting.
  • Head Pet: Purin is introduced laying on Izuku's head.
  • Heroic BSoD:
    • Played for laughs, as Izuku literally blue screens after learning that All Might is a wizard.
    • Iida after Izuku gets the 10 Million Point headband back using the summoning charm, as not only that he berates himself when he should have known Izuku could have used magic after training with him, but the fact that he used his all or nothing move and it amounted to nothing.
  • Hope Spot: During their "match" Yaoyorozu seemingly tosses Mineta out of bounds, however before he could reach the boundary, she pulls him back in for more "fighting".
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Izuku is still bullied due to anti-magic sentiment, leaving him with serve self-esteem issues.
    • Both Sludge Villain attacks still happen, though what happens differs between attacks.
    • Izuku still obtains One for All, though he pretends that it's a spell that lets him imitate All Might.
    • Izuku still saves Ochaco during the exam and her saving him with her quirk.
    • Team Todoroki is the same as canon, and while the teams are different Izuku, Katsuki, Ochaco, Kirishima, Hatsume, Tokoyami, Mina and Sero all make it to the next round, while Shinso also moves on due to the fact that Team Mineta only had three members leaving a spot open.
    • Izuku, Katsuki, Iida, Todoroki and Kirishima still make it to the second round of the tournament.
  • Inept Mage: All Might of all people, as not only is he is secretly a wizard but is bad at magic.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While extremely foul mouthed and quick to anger, Katsuki deeply cares about Izuku and it's clear that he has come to care for his new friends as well.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: All Might is surprisingly good at the memory charm in case someone finds out about his quirk. Tsubasa also offers to let him do it her when she finds out about it, but he decides that she doesn't need it.
  • Mass Super-Empowering Event: Treated realistically; when the mass empowering event occurs and Muggles become functionally similar to people with Magic Genetics, there would be no real reason to maintain a Masquerade between them. With that said, that minor difference between people with quirks and people with magic is enough for bad blood to manifest between them out of pride, envy or history.
  • Mutually Exclusive Magic: Save for One For All being passed on to a wizard, it seems to be impossible to have a quirk and be a wizard.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • In chapter 17, Sero mentions that losing against Todoroki is more embarrassing than his loss against Izuku.
    • Chapter 18, Iida mentions that Hatsume could have tricked anyone in their class with her support items.
  • Noodle Incident: Koda helped the Japanese Ministry of Magic with dangerous creatures, however he was too shy to tell his classmates about it when they were talking about their ties to magic.
  • Properly Paranoid: Tsubasa has taken Moody's "Constant Vigilance" as a battle cry and even has taken precautions in case she's willingly obliviated. She also tries to teach Izuku to do the same, though it's hard to tell if she's doing it correctly.
  • Running Gag:
    • Ochaco calling Katsuki "Kacchan" and him yelling at her back to not call him that.
    • Someone bringing up the Jimmy Carter rabbit attack when trying to reassure Izuku that his rabbit transformation isn't something to be ashamed of.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: Much like canon, Iida uses Recipro Burst order to steal the 10 Million Point headband. However with the exception of Team Bakugo and Team Mineta, no one knew that Izuku could easily get it back using the summoning charm, meaning not only are his engines stalled, but he won't recover until after the event is over.
  • Squishy Wizard: When Izuku begins training to handle One for All he wonders why he has to do it. Katsuki points out it's his "Wimpy wizard body" and All Might agrees pointing out that most wizards don't work out unless they play Beaters or Quadpot.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: All Might during the rooftop conversation with Izuku.
All Might: You have to keep what I'm about to tell you an absolute secret, if you don't then I'm going to have to obliviate you.
Izuku: You mean have someone obliviate me.
    (All Might blinks)
All Might: That's what I meant.
  • This Explains So Much: All Might's reaction to Tsubasa admitting that her father is a Quidditch player who went to Mahoutokoro and her mother is a muggle who's a self-proclaimed "Quidditch Slut".
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Mineta's reaction when he realizes his first round opponent is Yaoyorozu.
  • Three-Point Landing: Tsubasa does this when she's pretending to be a villain against Izuku and his friends.
  • Translation Convention: Any use of the word "Muggle" spoken by the characters is them using the Japanese equivalent. However All Might does use the American "No-Maj".
  • The Unmasqued World: Happened in the past. Nowadays Quidditch is the most popular sport, House Elves can be hired by Muggles and unlike quirks Witches and Wizards can openly use their magic in public.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Izuku and Tsubasa are both Animagi, with Izuku being able to turn into a rabbit while Tsubasa turns into a raven.
  • Wham Episode: Chapter 15 reveals not only that Natsuo Todoroki is a wizard, but the Todoroki family was historically magical.
