Fanfic / My Hero Academia: Mega Izuku

Go To

My Hero Academia: Mega Izuku is a My Hero Academia/Mega Man crossover by SeerKing. Izuku, as always, wants to become a hero. Unfortunately, his Quirk allows him to turn either hand into an Arm Cannon, and Japan has a firearms aversion. Can he overcome this stigma and still become a hero?

Tropes found in this fanfiction:

  • Acid Attack: Apart from the canon examples of Mina Ashido and Masaru Bakugo, Izuku has a weapon based on the latter's Quirk. When he copies and keeps the former's Quirk, he gets an upgraded version of the same gun.
  • Adaptational Badass: Izuku has a Quirk of his own in this universe, so that's a given. Not to mention how All Might is still interested in gifting him One for All.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: All Might's experience in mentoring Izuku and Katsuki makes him realize that he doesn't have the skills to teach a full class of hero students, so he requests Nejire Hadou to act as his TA.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Bakugo is as crass as his canon version, but here he is Izuku's best friend and ready to beat anyone giving him crap over his Quirk.
  • Adapted Out: Mineta doesn't appear in the story outside of a brief look at his records, with SeerKing mentioning that while Mineta isn't as bad as fanon makes him out to be, U.A. still wouldn't take him in due to his overtly perverted nature.
  • Age Lift: Camie Utsushimi is made a year younger, attending U.A. as part of Izuku's class.
  • Arm Cannon: Izuku's Quirk allows him to transform either or both of his hands into a gun. Initially, he was stuck with a blocky design reminiscent of Mega Man's, but with training, he developed his Quirk so he now can make a wide array of firearms.
  • Ascended Extra: Camie really only appeared during the Provisional Hero License Exam Arc and the Remedial Course Arc, here she's bumped up into joining U.A. and taking Mineta's place in Class 1-A.
  • Blessed with Suck: While Izuku's Quirk is rather powerful, the fact that it takes the form of a gun in Japan, a country with a strong taboo against firearms use, means that he suffered discrimination for it as a child.
  • Crush Blush: Izuku blushes when he meets Uraraka.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Nezu notes that, while Sir Nighteye's heavily focused on the idea of Mirio succeeding Toshinori as the bearer for One For All, he hasn't considered if the blonde would want the Quirk or not. Nezu personally believes that Mirio would refuse the Quirk if offered; given how much time the boy has spent to master his Permeation Quirk, he would likely feel that accepting would render his efforts redundant.
  • Doesn't Like Guns: Like real life, the story's version of Japanese society has an aversion to guns. Unfortunately for Izuku, his Quirk takes the form of transforming either hand into an Arm Cannon, so he's suffered discrimination for it.
  • Fantastic Racism: Izuku has suffered from discrimination in the past, as Japanese society Doesn't Like Guns, and his Quirk is an Arm Cannon one.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Izuku has to fight the Sludge Villain as it attempts to escape All Might.
    • Izuku undergoes the hell-training of cleaning up Dagobah Beach to become stronger.
    • Izuku still saves Ochako from the Zero Pointer.
  • Logical Weakness: Izuku's Quirk can't copy physical Mutation Quirks, and there are Quirks that just don't do much as ammo even if he does copy them.
  • Magic A Is Magic A: Subverted by Izuku, despite his Quirk being a biological function and thus should have limits based on such, the fact that his power copying can only be made permanent by either defeat or permission frustrates Aizawa so much he nearly quotes the memetic Worm line "Powers are Bullshit."
  • My Suit Is Also Super: Since Izuku's Quirk is a Transformation one, he needs gloves specially made to react to his DNA and change with them, which takes up nearly a quarter of his costume budget (with him noting that it's lucky that UA covers that kind of thing in regards to suit upgrades).
  • Point of Divergence:
    • Izuku and Katsuki fight the Sludge Villain together. This leads to the latter being let in on One for All from the beginning.
    • Katsuki gets fifteen Rescue points in this story, whereas in canon he didn't get any.
    • Mineta does not make it due to a background check uncovering his misdeeds. He's replaced with Camie Utsushimi.
    • Koji Koda and Rikido Sato are sent to 1-B, while Itsuka Kendo and Yui Kodai take their 1-A slots.
    • Aizawa is forced to read his students' files and prevented from threatening to kick out his students after one that was fully expelled hacked U.A.'s records with his Quirk and warned the next year students about Aizawa's proclivities, causing a scandal that Nezu had a hard time fixing.
  • Semantic Superpower: Izuku's Quirk is rather flexible on the forms his Arm Cannon can take, from the "base" blocky design to replicas of real guns to even things that one wouldn't normally consider a "gun", like water pistols or tennis ball launchers.
  • Variant Power Copying: If Izuku touches someone, his Quirk copies theirs to form the base of a kind of ammunition for his Arm Cannon for five minutes. If he has permission to keep it or defeats the original bearer of the Quirk in a fight, he gains unlimited access to the Quirk from then on.
  • Weapon-Based Characterization: Izuku believes that the specific form of the weapon he gets from someone's Quirk is at least loosely a result of the original person's personality. For instance, he characterizes the Null Gravity Buster taking on the form of an M79 Grenade Launcher as a sign that Ochako is friendly, reliable, and adaptable.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Aizawa calls Todoroki and Izuku out for not using their Quirks' full potential. Izuku manages to get the teacher to apologize because he reveals that his copy of Ochako's Quirk (the one he used to fire the Zero Pointer into orbit) was only temporary.
