Movie Night with these people goes exactly how you'd imagine.

Movies with Karkat is a Homestuck MST Fan Fiction by Anon_H taking place in a post-game AU where everyone comes back to life in the end and are now living relatively peacefully in the new world. One day Karkat decides to host a movie viewing stream to share Alternian culture, or more accurately his favorites, only to learn that Vriska is holding her own stream of a human movie at the same time. It all goes downhill from there.

The story is currently 27 chapters long, with a two-part finale. Below is a list of movies, the people who picked them, and their corresponding chapters.

After a multi-year hiatus, the final chapters were released near the end of 2020.

Tropes contained in Movies with Karkat:

  • Amazonian Beauty: Nepeta is mentioned in Chapter 8 to be on the muscular side, and she ends up in an three way relationship with Roxy and John.
  • And the Adventure Continues: Karkat discontinues his movie nights after the final chapter, but encourages Jake to carry on streaming them if he wants.
  • Batman Gambit: Karkat comes to the realization that the whole series might have been a Seer-Power assisted one on Terezi's part to get him a moirail in the last chapter.
  • Berserk Button: Seeing Filch for Aradiabot, or more accurately seeing David Bradley. Given her comments she's been watching Game of Thrones and wasn't pleased with the Red Wedding.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Feferi is perhaps the sweetest most friendly Troll of them all. She's also a frightening enough kismesis that when Eridan brings up the idea of a kismesis swap in Chapter 25, John is terrified of the idea of being the target of her black affections. For good reason too, she broke Eridan's legs during one of their "sessions" thanks to the strength her blood affords her.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Caliborn was reduced to his child form again without any of his God Tier powers in this canon.
  • Chick Magnet: Surprisingly enough, John. He ends up filling all his non Auspice quadrants with female characters. Vriska becomes his moirail, Terezi becomes his kismesis, and he ends up with both Roxy and Nepeta as his matesprits.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Feferi when it comes to her moirallegiance with Roxy.
  • Destructo-Nookie: Offscreen, courtesy of Feferi and Eridan's Kismesissituide.
CC: First )(e's all like: 'wweh wweh fef, i can take it'.
  • Doorstopper: The 25 chapters of the story round up to exactly 285177 words. This is also part of the reason why there's been a four year hiatus on the final chapter, because as of the latest news on the chapter's progress its estimated final word count is roughly 55,000 words.
  • Dramatic Irony: Damara is either a Loveable Sex Maniac or a Depraved Bisexual, depending on how forward she is. However, she ends up being Karkat's moirail, which is one of the two quadrants not to be sexual in nature.
  • Endearingly Dorky: According to Roxy and Vriska, John is this. When he tries to convince them he's more manly than cute, they just start calling him "Adorabeefy" to fluster him more.
  • For Want Of A Nail: The fact that the Alpha and Beta kids come from different timelines is finally brought up in full in Chapter 26 when Jane expresses shocked confusion at mentions of World War II due to it never happening in her timeline. When John tries to explain it, she unknowingly reveals why.
EB: Dude, Hitler was one of the most evil human beings in history, killing literal millions of jews in cruel and inhumane ways.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Cronus. Everyone finds him annoying at best and a total creep at worst.
  • The Gadfly: Jane. When given a chance to pick a movie she chose The Room of all things just to mess with people.
  • Guilty Pleasures: Despite having grown to hate Con Air over his three-year voyage over the Yellow Yard, upon rewatching John can't help but still enjoy the movie, to the point of following Cameron Poe's example with Vriska in the "Put the bunny back in the box" scene. Rose asks John if he knows what a guilty pleasure is, indicating she believes this is his current situation.
  • Harmless Villain: Caliborn. Once a destroyer of souls and the Big Bad of the comic, now reduced to his powerless child form and just as stupid as ever with no way to return to what he once was.
  • Head-Tiltingly Kinky: The human characters unintentionally come off like this to the Trolls due to their openness and lack of understanding of how quadrants work, primarily in regards to moiraillegiance due to friendship and mutual improvement being a rather common thing for humans but a sacred relationship on par with romance for Trolls. John pacifying Vriska in public is treated as being incredibly kinky for example.
GA: Humans Do Not Give A Proverbial Fuck
  • The Heart: Feferi is often the troll with the most emotional reactions and the most empathy to the situations of fictional characters. She has an incredible outburst and needs to be comforted by Roxy after watching the Death Star do its thing in Chapter 13.
  • Hourglass Plot: An odd double-reacharound version for John and Jade's views on Con Air. Initially, John loved the movie before and during the events of his session while Jade hadn't watched it herself. During the three year trip to the Post-Scratch session, John came to the realization that Con Air actually sucks while Jade saw it as rather silly. By the time the fic takes place, John is unable to fully commit to hating the movie and rather clearly still likes it despite knowing how dumb it is, while Jade hates the movie completely and utterly after having to constantly watch it during the trip.
  • Jerkass: Eridan is this in spades during Chapter 11. He chose Platoon because he thought it was a comedy. His callous behavior actually gets Feferi mad enough that they enter a kismesissitude. His later moirallegiance with Jake helps him grow out of this.
  • Odd Friendship: During Chapter 4, while naturally annoyed by his need for social justice, Jane praises Kankri twice over for saying things that make her recontextualize parts of The Shining that hadn't made sense for her before.
  • Klingons Love Shakespeare: By default any time a non-human character likes a movie. This also extends to human foods, especially chocolate.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Damara shifts between this and Depraved Bisexual at the drop of a hat.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Aradia, mixed with Perky Goth.
  • Sanity Slippage: A minor example. Karkat gets more and more irritable as the story progresses, not helped at all by his high movie standards making the streams frustrating for him. He mellows considerably in Chapter 25 due to choosing the movie and being in an attempt at wooing Damara for his pale quadrant.
  • Verbal Tic: Roxy picks up Nepeta's penchant for cat puns and Feferi's penchant for fish puns amongst her wonton disregard for proper spelling.
  • You Need to Get Pacified: Everyone thinks that Karkat needs to get a moirail, to his mounting frustration. He gets one in Chapter 25 in the form of Damara.
