Fanfic / Mork and Memories

Go To

Mork and Memories is a Fan Fic of Mork & Mindy.

In it, Mork and Mindy have begun to fall in love, and when Mindy gets a phone call from her doubtful father, she says that it would be easier loving a human than an alien but it wouldn't be as fun. Mork overhears the part about it not being easy but doesn't hear the rest of it, and then he hits his head and is knocked unconscious. When he wakes up, he has no memory of being an alien and it turns out that he's "locked away" those memories, so Mindy has to "unlock" them.

Mork and Memories provides examples of

  • Alien Among Us: Mindy and Fred are the only humans who know that Mork is an alien, it's kept secret to the general public.
  • Alliterative Name: Mindy McConnel.
  • Amnesia Episode: Played with. Mork can't remember anything related to being an alien but can remember other things.
  • An Odd Place to Sleep: Mork sleeps hanging from a bar.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: While Mork is unconscious, Mindy remembers that Orkans (his species) have three hearts but there isn't one in the right place for a human, they're made of membranes, they shrink if they take cold capsules and they need to re-energize with a "gleek" on their birthdays.
  • Catch Your Death Of Cold: Mindy says, "Do you remember when you caught a cold because you were out in the rain?".
  • Dark Fic: Downplayed. While there is some drama and if it was in the show it'd be an Unexpectedly Dark Episode, it's still not awfully sad and there's a Happy Ending.

  • Genki Boy: Mork is described as being "normally a bundle of energy, always moving unless he was speaking to Orson".
  • Happy Ending: Yes, she does get the memories back.

  • Hold Your Hippogriffs: At one point, Orson says, "I don't know why on Ork he would do something like that."

  • Human Aliens: Mork is an alien that looks just like a human.
  • Human Outside, Alien Inside: Mork looks like a human but has three hearts and can drink with his finger.
  • Incredible Shrinking Man: Mindy says that she knows not to give Mork cold medicine or he might shrink.

  • Interspecies Romance: Mork (an alien) and Mindy (a human) have fallen in love.
  • Journey to the Center of the Mind: Mindy, Orson and Mork all take turns going into Mork's mind. That's where the memories are stored.
  • Just Friends: Mork and Mindy have been friends and have recently fallen in love.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Invoked. Mork erases/suppresses all the memories of being an alien and keeps all the unrelated memories.
  • Mental World: Mork's mind is another dimension where his memories are stored behind a door.
  • Missing Mom: Zigzagged. Mindy's mother is not around because she's dead, but she does remember talking to her on the sofa somehow.
  • OOC Is Serious Business:
    • When Mork doesn't get up after hitting his head, Mindy knows something is wrong as he usually likes to move about.

  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: Mork overhears Mindy say that it would be easier if she'd fallen in love with a human, but doesn't hear her say that she doesn't want it easier.
  • Precision F-Strike: The only swear word in the fanfic is "damn", which is Played for Drama as it's not something Mork would say.
  • Pun:
    • When Mork first finds out he's hit his head, he says, "I fell? Well, I guess I've taken falling for you to a whole new level."
    • Later, Mindy says a knock-knock joke.

      Mindy: "Orange."
      Mork: "Orange who?"
Mindy: "Orange you going to open the door and get your surprise?"
