Tropes found in this fanfic:

  • And Call Him "George": In the first nightmare Jermaine has in "Dying Miracle", Luisa accidentally crushes Mirabel to death while hugging her.
  • Bear Hug: Jermaine hugs Mirabel this way after the second nightmare he has in "Dying Miracle".
  • Bitch Slap: Alma does this to Mirabel during their argument in one of Jermaine's nightmares in "Dying Miracle".
  • Commonality Connection: Jermaine and Mirabel bond over both their need for acceptance from certain family members and being/feeling different from their family as a whole. This gradually leads to Jermaine developing a crush on Mirabel.
  • Gasp!: The Madrigals collectively gasp when Jermaine bursts into Casita to defend Mirabel from Alma in "Saving the Miracle".
  • Get Out!: As mentioned below, Alma tells Jermaine to get out of her house during his "The Reason You Suck" Speech to her.
  • Glasses Curiosity: In the nightmare Jermaine has on Wednesday night in "Dying Miracle", Isabela steals and wears Mirabel's glasses to mock her while the latter's restrained by the former's vines.
Isabela: Look at me. I'm Mirabel. I always get in the way and try way too hard to be something I'm not.
  • Insecure Love Interest: As mentioned above, Jermaine gradually develops a crush on Mirabel, but he's apprehensive about telling her how he feels because he doesn't think he's good enough for her. He finally does confess at the end of "Saving the Miracle", and they go out on a date.
  • Kick the Dog: Both Isabela and Alma do this to Mirabel in Jermaine's nightmares in "Dying Miracle".
    • In the nightmare Jermaine has on Wednesday night, Isabela steals and wears Mirabel's glasses to mock her while the latter's restrained by the former's vines. After Isabela's done, she throws Mirabel's glasses on the floor and coldly crushes them with large, hard-shelled seeds.
    • In the nightmare Jermaine has on Thursday night, Alma slaps Mirabel's glasses off her face during their argument. Before Mirabel can retrieve them, Alma coldly crushes them under her shoe before kicking Mirabel in the stomach.
  • Manly Tears: At the end of "Dying Miracle", Jermaine cries almost uncontrollably while hugging Mirabel due to feeling overwhelmed by all of his nightmares. He tries to hold them back but just can't.
  • Once More, with Clarity: As mentioned in the description, the majority of "Saving the Miracle" is a retelling of a few of the film's events from Jermaine's perspective. The events in question are the proposal dinner, Alma and Mirabel's argument (and their reconciliation later), Casita's collapse (and eventual rebuilding), and Mirabel's return to the village.
  • Plagued by Nightmares: In "Dying Miracle", Jermaine has a series of recurring nightmares about bad things befalling Mirabel. The nightmares happen over the course of about a week, and he doesn't understand why he keeps having them.
    • Monday night's nightmare is Luisa accidentally crushing Mirabel to death.
    • Tuesday night's nightmare is Mirabel dying in Bruno's room.
    • Wednesday night's nightmare is Isabela restraining Mirabel with thorny vines, making fun of Mirabel for always being in the way and trying too hard to be accepted/loved, and feeding Mirabel to a giant carnivorous plant.
    • Thursday night's nightmare is Alma physically attacking Mirabel during their argument.
    • Friday night's nightmare is Mirabel dying inside the crumbling Casita while trying to get the candle.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Jermaine gives one to Alma right after she blames Mirabel for Casita's cracks and the magic dying in "Saving the Miracle".
Jermaine: Hey! Now, hold on there. What kind of grandmother are you anyway, Alma?
Alma: This is a family matter, and you're not family!
Jermaine: You're right, Alma. I'm not family, but I am Mirabel's friend. If you think I'm just gonna stand here and let you talk to her like that, you're wrong.
Jermaine: Make me! Oh, but wait. You can't, can you? As hard as you are on Mirabel about not having a gift, you don't even have one yourself. You're just a bitter old woman holding a candle.
Alma: I said get out of my house.
Jermaine: Listen here, you stubborn and insensitive- Curse Cut Short
