- Adaptational Backstory Change: Flash Sentry did not have much of a backstory originally, but in this story, he is the son of human Sombra and a woman named Sophia Hope. It is revealed later that Flash had heart problems when he was born, and some sort of magic was used to heal him.
- Adaptational Villainy: Human Zecora, who makes a shady deal with Timber Spruce.
- Enemy Mine: The Rainbooms and Flash end up working with The Dazzlings against The Black Stone Order.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Midnight Sparkle is very against Sci-Twi breaking up with Timber by text.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Timber Spruce becomes increasingly jealous of Flash when Sci-Twi starts spending more time with Flash than him. This leads to him trying to outdo Flash with grand romantic gestures, and at one point even telling him to stay away from Sci-Twi, all of which go wrong and end up pushing Sci-Twi further away.
- Harem Genre: Has a few shades of this due to Flash being teased with all of the Rainbooms. Discord is quite aware of this trope when he notices how close they are with Flash.
- Lethal Chef: As Applejack had to find out the hard way, Flash is not that good of a cook.
- Luke, I Am Your Father: Downplayed, because Human Sombra is (as far as we know) not evil, but he is Flash Sentry's father.
- Magic Enhancement: While Flash gains the Rainboom's own abilities, he enhances their own.
- Applejack gains plant growing abilities
- Rainbow Dash gains Shock and Awe abilities (that she has a tough time turning off).
- Fluttershy gains Shapeshifting abilities.
- Pinkie gains the ability to make objects bouncy and sticky like Jell-O.
- Nice Guy: Flash's niceness is one of his defining traits. He is also very wealthy, but is very generous.
- Our Werewolves Are Different: Thanks to a magic amulet given to him by Zecora, Timber turns into a werewolf-like being.
- Power Copying: Flash's magic allows him to copy the powers of the other Rainbooms.
- Princely Young Man: Flash's wealth is one of his characteristics in this story due to his father being an important figure in Canterlot. He is the gentlemen type.
- Shout-Out: Human Sombra tells Flash that one of the original names Flash's mom planned to give him was "Turbo".
- Spirit Advisor: After Sci-Twi comes in contact with magic from passing through a portal, Midnight Sparkle becomes this to her. Only Sci-Twi can see her and they constantly speak and argue with each other, with Midnight Sparkle giving her advice and acting like her shoulder devil at times.
- Unfortunate Names: Dr. Flatline. Both Flash and Flatline himself lampshade that his name is not a very good one for a doctor.
