Introverted is a Naruto fanfiction by Shadenight123. Naruto has become introverted due a mistake that ended up with Teuchi being killed.

He, Sakura, and Sai end up as members of Team 13, under the guidance of Aoba. Unique in that it takes a realistic look at what the shinobi world is like and how death is sudden and quick, with Naruto forced to deal being the Jinchuuriki as well as the live of a shinobi. It's a Dark Fic, fair warning.

This fic is now completed.

Tropes found in this fanfiction:

  • Aborted Declaration of Love: Hinata, during the first part of the Chuunin Exam.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Naruto has black hair here by dying it.
  • After the End
  • Anyone Can Die: The author mentioned this outright and has so far killed off Teuchi, Ino, Tazuna, Gaara, Tenten (Gutted Like a Fish), Sakura's Parents, Hiruzen, Hidan, Yamato, Obito, Jiraya, Kabuto, Ao, A, C, Chojiro, Mei, and Aoba.
    • By the end of the fic every named major character is dead with few exceptions like Naruto and Sakura.
  • Attack Pattern Alpha: Aoba's Contingency book.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: Team Thirteen's general group tactic involves much back-to-back.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Orochimaru used Naruto in order to do it, but he got what he wanted in the end.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: From the moment the Kyuubi starts talking, he begins trying to mold Naruto his way. Especially visible in chapters 17 and 29.
  • Beneath the Mask: Who doesn't have one in the shinobi world?
  • Bittersweet Ending: Peace has been brought about to do it nearly every named character died.
  • Advertisement:
  • Blatant Item Placement: Naruto learned his mother was Orochimaru's student and was killed when Kyuubi broke free by a scroll far way from the section it was supposed to be and open...then Danzo, who wasn't there, conveniently asked him the right questions. Averted, since Chapter Three and Thirteen foreshadow Danzo's purposefully placing the scroll in the archives for Naruto to find.
  • Body Horror: What Orochimaru does to his experiments.
  • Break the Cutie: The author must hate the kids for the sheer amount of angst.
  • Break Them by Talking: The Kyuubi does this. A lot.
  • Child Soldiers: Yeah, this series doesn't try to glorify it either.
  • Combat Sadomasochist: Karin, apparently.
  • Crapsack World: Pointed out, numerous times.
  • Cry for the Devil: Kyuubi, Shukkaku.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Sai
  • Duel to the Death: Naruto Versus Gaara. Naruto wins.
  • Advertisement:
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Orochimaru spares Hebi, an orphan girl who reminds him of Anko. then again, considering what we gleam of Anko's own training, maybe it wasn't a good thing at all. He also shows genuine remorse for Sarutobi's death.
  • Every Man Has His Price: Naruto managed to buy off Kakuzu for Fuu by giving him the Rasengan, outright betraying the village, which bit him in the ass.
  • Eye Scream: When Sakura is tricked into torturing Naruto, she stabs and rips out his eye with a kunai.
    • Kabuto ripped out Sasuke's eyes in Chapter 31. In the following chapter Hiruzen rips out Danzo's Sharingan and crushes it. In chapter 37 Anko takes the one in his arm.
  • Faking the Dead: Ami and the Kusa and Leaf Genin "Killed" during the first test. Danzo faked his own in the front lines to infiltrate the Land of the Sky. Naruto faked his own and became a missing-nin.
  • False Crucible: The Chuunin First Exam for some Genin.
  • Famous Last Words: "I'd wager my life on it." Aoba, just before taking the mission that would kill him.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Kushina.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Team Thirteen.
  • From Badto Worse
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Sakura gets this bad after Chapter 23. Extends towards just about any woman showing a remote interest in Naruto, including their Sensei.
  • Harmful Healing : While this is already presented in canon, the drawback Naruto's healing factor does greater damage because he has been using more of Kyuubi's chakra than in canon. According to the Kyuubi, he's already lost about 90 years of his life. But that was a lie.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: When ever the Kyuubi takes over, he has a tendency to turn Naruto into a cannibal. Also, as part of his contract with the Carrion Crows he must feast with them.
  • Interrogated for Nothing: Naruto, by Sakura after both were tricked by someone posing as their teacher. Naruto was told it was a pain tolerance test and Sakura was told he gave the mission that got Ino killed away.
  • In the Back: Karin launches senbon needles to Naruto in Chapter 39 to prevent him from running away.
  • Leave No Witnesses: Naruto kills an entire village after being forced to use his Shadow Clones to save them in the first place.
    • Sakura has to do this a lot. It has only made her sanity worse.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Danzo and apparently the Sandaime to an extent, given the events of chapter 14. Kyuubi's Mind Rape driven manipulation may take the cake, however.
    • Orochimaru too.
  • Mind Rape: What Danzo did to Naruto using his sharingan, according to Kyuubi.
  • Monster Sob Story: Shukkaku's story.
  • Motivational Kiss: Karin gives on to Naruto in Chapter 23 on the cheek. Sakura promptly tops it by kissing him on the lips.
  • Necessary Evil: Naruto, in the end. Orochimaru as well.
  • Never My Fault: Naruto has, sadly, developed a case of this.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: In preparation of the Chuunin Exams or rather, so that they can't participate Kakashi delivers this to his own team, completely crushing Sasuke especially.
The Uchiha had its limbs twisted and broken; his eyes snapped shut because of sand and his breathing irregular.
    • Naruto versus everyone at the Peace Talks.
  • Out-Gambitted: Orochimaru managed to get around all the precautions the Hokage and Danzo set into place by not attacking Konoha but its allies instead while Kabuto got Sasuke's eyes and samples. Kyuubi outsmarted the seal and Naruto outsmarted him. In the end Orochimaru sort of wins in that Naruto accomplished his plans.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Kyuubi arguably.
  • Secret Test of Character: The mining village mission of chapter 44. Moral Event Horizon for Naruto.
  • Sympathy for the Hero: Kakuzu has a surprising amount of this for Naruto. Won't stop him from collecting him in a few years, but still.
  • "Take That!" Kiss: Kurotsuchi to Naruto, after trapping him and his team and stealing their scrolls during the Chuunin Exam. Kyuubi-Controlled Naruto to Kurotsuchi, later on.
  • Through the Eyes of Madness: Mostly with Naruto, but Sakura in chapter 29 is disturbing. Even more so later on.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: Karin finds pain synonymous with love.
  • Tournament Arc: Chapters 29 through 31. Not Just a Tournament for Danzo as he mind-controlled Naruto to ensure the might of the Jinchuuriki could not be having him show no mercy to his opponents, and Orochimaru, who used the heightened paranoia to attack somewhere completely different than expected.
  • Tragic Monster: Shukaku, you have to feel bad for him.
  • Training from Hell: Sakura via Anko. Deconstructed in that we see what happens in the end result and it is not pleasant. She may never regain her sanity.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Orochimaru and Naruto. Both wanted peace in the end and both got it.
  • Wham Episode: Chapter 46 has Hidan killed and Naruto betraying the village by giving a member of Akatsuki the Rasengan after he killed Yamato in exchange for Fuu, marking the end of his innocence after everything. At the same time, Sakura quits Anbu and awaits him to answer if he loved her or not.
    • Chapter 52 has Naruto a missing-nin after having been called out on betraying the village and had his death faked.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Hinata and Ayame and other minor characters who weren't featured in the final arc of the stories. The Author leaves it up to the readers to decide on their own.
  • Will Not Tell a Lie: Kyuubi, at least, that's what he says.
    • I Lied: Turns out that was a lie and he tells many others to benefit himself.
  • Worthy Opponent: Kakuzu is expecting this of Naruto when he returns for him.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Naruto kills every child, down to a newborn, personally in chapter 44.
    • Sakura in 57.
