Fallout Equestria: Wasteland Jewel
is a fanfiction set within the universe of KKat's fanfiction Fallout: Equestria.
Set five years after the events of the original fanfiction, Stable 26 is opened up and the medical Pony Ruby Starlight leaves. However she finds herself in the middle of a massive war between the New Canterlot Republic and the Crimson Empire. The young mare has to decide whether or not to get involved, but winds up siding with the NCR to fight in the city of Neigh Orleans.
What will this mean for the future of Equestria?
This fic includes the following tropes:
- Action Girl: Primarily the characters Bluesky and Midnight, but Ruby Starlight has some elements of it as well.
- After the End: Well it is a crossover between My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and Fallout, so that's kind of a given.
- Burn the Undead: The Burning Pony Ghouls play with this idea, and they're physically burning with the flames from the Megaspells.
- Call-Back: There are several references to the events of the original fanfic:
- In Chapter 1 Bluesky asks Ruby if she left to chase after a mare she had a crush on.
- When Ruby mentions that she had been given aid by The Doctor, Bluesky comments that she thought the Watcher had stopped doing that.
- Melody makes reference to Homage from the original fanfic in chapter 9.
- The appearances of Velvet Remedy, Calamity, and Ditzy Doo in chapter 13 refer to the Elements of Harmony.
- Call-Forward: Several to Fallout Equestria: Hidden Legacy, a fanfic by the same artist, such as mentioning New Pegasus and the Three Families.
- Crossover: Of Fallout and My Little Pony.
- Dressing as the Enemy: Twice during the Northern Fields Standoff arc, Ruby and her allies wear Crimson Empire uniforms to infiltrate their bases.
- The Empire: The Crimson Empire.
- Foreshadowing: A little bit for Ruby Starlight and Bluesky's relationship, mostly through the characters teasing her about it and dreams.
- Hero of Another Story: Senior Paladin Nova is implied to have had several adventures in the city of Seaddle prior to this fanfic.
- The Hero's Journey: Ruby's adventure has many qualities of this.
- Mythology Gag:
- Chapter 5 reveals that Midnight is from Stable 13, a reference to the Vault Dweller in Fallout 1.
- In chapter 8 Ruby and company comes across the TARDIS in the middle of an empty desert, a reference to the random chance of encountering it in Fallout 1.
- In chapter 9 its revealed that Melody keeps her identity hidden like Homage from the original fanfic.
- Melody also commonly greets her listeners with the line, "Greetings everypony out there in Pony Post-Apocalyptia," a reference to Three Dog in Fallout 3 who used a similar phrase.
- Official Couple: Ruby and Bluesky as of chapter 9.
- Race Against the Clock: A rare non-video game example, the fanfic takes place over the course of a year.
- Running Joke: Ruby getting scared up until later chapters.
- Shout-Out:
- During the infiltration of the Imperial Camp, Midnight comments that she doesn't have a cardboard box as a reference to Metal Gear Solid.
- The Doctor refers to several enemies from Doctor Who including the Daleks and Cybermen.
- In Chapter 8, Midnight comments "I hate Temporal Mechanics," a reference to an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
- The Undead: The Ghouls and the Burnt Pony Ghouls play with this trope.
- Weapon of Mass Destruction: The Megaspells as usual, but this time brings in a new one called Burning Rain which when detonated not only caused massive destruction, but the lasting effects turned the weather deadly and keeps the Pegasi and even the Single Pegasus Project from changing it.
