Escape the Ronpa by ETNMystic is an Escape the Night and Danganronpa crossover series about students at the top of their talents being locked in somewhere and forced to play a deadly game to graduate.

The series is currently on its 1st season and the author has already cast the second, which is set to take place in a museum.

This series contains examples of:

    Escape the Ronpa Season 1
  • The Ace: Every single character is considered the best of the best in their field.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Played straight after the chapter 2 trial and before Tyler Jamison's execution, pulling a Nagito Komaeda and Gundham Tanaka.
  • All Crimes Are Equal: Pretty apparent right from the get-go, as two people are executed right off the bat. Why? They applied for the academy even though they're outside of the age range and, according to Monokuma, tampered with the application as well.
  • Ambiguous Time Period: It's unclear exactly when the game takes place, though the author does often provide a day and night count.
  • Anyone Can Die: Played pretty straight.
  • Audience Participation: All of the characters are submitted by authors on ao3, and whether or not the characters survive is in the hands of the readers, as they're charged with solving the mystery.
  • Black-and-Gray Morality: Played mostly with the Ultimates. Erica Vian, slightly. After she's found guilty of murder after the first chapter trial, from which she escapes execution and she's asked why she did it, she says that "it's kill or be killed", but also because she wants to see her sister again. However Autumn Michelson is a much better example of this trope. She tends to be the shadiest of the bunch, claiming to be helping the others by reminding them that death isn't too far behind them, but at the same time, she seems to make implications that she may be the dangerous one, such as when she bitterly describes who she thinks will be the next to go.
  • Break the Cutie: Abigail seems to be a bit broken each time there's an execution. However, to others, this happens twice in chapter 3. First to Roxanna after seeing the dead body of her recently-declared girlfriend. Then later on to Tristen after her girlfriend, Penelope is executed for the double murder of Remus and Erica.
  • Character Death: No surprise there. It's a Danganronpa killing game, after all
  • The Cutie: Moreso referred to as a cinnamon roll. This is played pretty straight with Abigail Morris, they are extremely sweet and don't want to believe anyone is dying, and slightly subverted with Tristen Tyler: she does tend to have a fiery streak and does drop a swear word here and there, but still manages to maintain her sweet side.
  • Dwindling Party: Each chapter has 2 people dying. However, just like in Danganronpa, this is subverted in chapter 3, in which 3 people die, 2 in a murder and 1 culprit executed.
  • Exposition Victim: Actually there's two of them executed in a single prologue chapter.
  • Hollywood Autism: Subverted by Tristen Tyler who Penelope Dowry figures out is autistic. However she's extremely emotional, female-identifying and female-assigned, is in a loving relationship with Penelope, the one who figured out she was autistic to begin with, and her talent is the Ultimate Novelist, as opposed to an Ultimate in science or math. Unfortunately her autism does make her a target for bullying from Autumn, who even has an entire monologue during the second trial, aimed at her and chalked full of ableism. Autumn does apologize to Tristen later, saying that she thinks she doesn't believe in even a quarter of what she said.
  • I'm Not Here to Make Friends: Outright stated by Autumn in chapter 3 when she tells Tristen "I didn't come here to make friends. I came here to stay at the top of my field. Either you're an obstacle to my success or you simply exist. There will never be an in-between."
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: Played straight in the chapter 1 and 2 trials; the culprit mentions the color of duct tape used on the victim in chapter 1, and chapter 2's culprit is revealed to have helped with the suicide video shown during the tragedy after they mention having worked on a video with Ryota Mitarai, as well as where the book on the Tragedy was hidden. Neither of these were brought up beforehand.
  • Rotating Protagonist: There's no singular protagonist, so the POV swaps between characters.
  • Self-Deprecation: Played straight with Tristen. Even her girlfriend's hypnosis talent seems to be unable to stop her from hating herself.
  • Ship Tease: Both with Erica and Roxanna and with Charlotte and Abigail.
  • Shrinking Violet: Played pretty straight with Tristen.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: Autumn Michelson has had several instances of bullying someone or being shady around others, only to break down into tears when they're out of earshot, indicating that there may be more going on than meets the eye.
  • Win Your Freedom: The primary objective of the murders.
