Ed, Edd n Eddy / DEVILMAN crybaby is a crossover between...well, what else? It is written by MasterOfNintendo, the same creator of the Review Team fanfiction series. The story can be read right about here.

When the Eds hastily dig a hole to escape an enraged Kevin's wrath after a scam goes wrong, they accidentally manage to dig themselves all the way to Tokyo, Japan. There, they meet Akira Fudo and get roped up in a world of blonde madmen, demons, blood, gore, and utter havoc. Are they ready for this world, but more importantly, is this world ready for the Eds?

This fic provides the following tropes:

• A God Am I: Devilbreaker's modus operandi is to become a God to rule over Akira's world. He certainly has the power to back it up...kinda.
  • A God I Am Not: At the end, Kronos actually asks Ed if he wishes to become a god due to his power. He declines, liking life with his friends better.
  • Vishnu doesn't say this outright, but his boasts during Part 10 due invoke this.
• A Simple Plan: All Eddy wanted to do was get as far away from Kevin as possible when a scam involving modifying his bike and stealing a jawbreaker went awry.
  • There is also the Nagasaki incident in Part 3, where the Eds and company weren't expecting Ghelmer or Ryo's more sociopathic tendencies boiling up.
• A-Cup Angst: Mikiko, when she gets flustered about girls in Playboy magazines, is quick to embarrassingly denounce the girls chests as fake. She may be a solid B (according to Vis) but this counts.
• Abusive Parents: We all knew that Ed's mom was rather domineering, but Ed offhandedly mentions a "Hush Room" as punishment. Eddy is a bit disturbed, implying it's worse than it sounds.
  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: And now, as of Part 3, we can add a pothead aunt into the mix, whom would keep Ed from talking to the neighbors and guard her stash of weed.
• Action Girl: Mikiko establishes herself as this when she uses both her Devilman powers and her strength to take down several demons at the Sabbath. She even brandishes a shotgun in Part 3.
  • Her ward, Yumi, is also keen on being this by use of a pistol.
  • We already know Miko, post-Devilman transformation, is this, but in Part 5, we get to see how she came to be and the havoc that ensued.
  • Later on, Trax joins the cast and, while she doesn't exactly get into combat that much, she's still very much willing to jump into the fray.
• Action Survivor: The Eds, by the end of the Sabbath. Every other human got slaughtered or possessed.
• Actually Pretty Funny: Miko is upset when Ed smashes his head through the wall of the locker room when she's confronting Miki in Episode 6. However, she admits that the look on her friend's face was nice. It helps that Ed calls her 'Miki' all the time.
• Adaptation Expansion: Part 5 brings two moments. We get to see how Miko became a Devilman, Kunkun's death, and Kaim's past (based on his word, which all turns out to be true). The next chapter, we even get to see a scene of Kaim and Sirene when they were kids.
• Adaptation Personality Change: Mikiko is much more outgoing than she was in the anime version she was clearly based on. Her ward, Yumi, is also much more sunny and easygoing, as well as a bit more foul-mouthed.
  • Jinmen is given his more sympathetic traits from the CB Chara Go Nagai World OVA. while still retaining his more sadistic tendencies.
  • Kaim is, for the most part, the same as he was, but as time goes on, he's revealed to be much more sad than he lets on.
• Adaptation Species Change: Trax, the unnamed Devilman from Episode 7, is an actual demon, now.
• Adults Are Useless: As in canon, slightly. The school administration is a definite example, as they bend backwards to letting the Eds attend without any need for actual classes.
• Affably Evil: The demons, when you get past their destructive and killer tendencies, are actually pretty helpful to each-other.
  • Evil Is One Big, Happy Family: Something like that.
• Agent Scully: Edd is this to the others during the trip to the Sabbath, but soon afterward...
• The Alcoholic: If what one demon says is true, Amon was this and his drinking problem usually resulted in rampages.
• Alternate Continuity: This takes place before the movie. Given how the fanfic ends, it's possibly that movie either never happened or did, but under far better circumstances.
• And Then What?: Ed actually invokes this when he questions Miko's goal of getting her name changed and whether or not it will be worth it in the long run. Naturally, she's not keen on responding.
• Antagonist in Mourning: Kevin, seemingly, when the Eds fall down their makeshift hole. It's stated he waited around that hole "for a long time".
• Attack Its Weakpoint: Devilbreaker's weakness happens to be his Jawbreaker core, which is exploited at the earliest opportunity.
• Attempted Rape: Edd is subject to this by a patron at the Sabbath. It's even stated that the Kanker Sisters would never go as far as what was about to happen, despite their faults. Thank goodness Mikiko was there in time.
• Ascended Extra: Mikiko, whom was reduced to a cameo in the original Devilman: crybaby series.
  • Jinmen and Kaim, in the context of this series at least, get even more prominent roles.
  • Trax, the Devilman burned alive in Episode 7 that didn't even have a name to begin with, joins the team when she's saved, thus giving her a prominent role (as well as her new status as an actual demon).
  • The God of the Go-Nagai Universe ends up getting a speaking role near the end, where his goals are explained and he even has a Heel Realization when all's said and done.
• Audience Surrogate: The Eds react as anybody would expect to the carnage that goes on around them. Namely, with sheer terror. Even Ed is brought to tears by the Sabbath incident.
• Autobots, Rock Out!: What's the music that plays during Ed's battle with Pazuzu and his army? THIS.
  • The final battle against Satan and King Ghidorah has an English cover of Ultimate Battle. Fitting, considering Ed has access to Ultra Ed-stinct.
• Ax-Crazy: Ryo, as expected, though the narration makes it sound like he's even more of this than in canon.
  • To say nothing of Jinmen when he gets in the heat of battle...
• Back from the Dead: Ed, despite being stabbed in Part 9 and being buried later, rises from the grave, the power of Ultra Ed-stinct flowing through him. His explanation basically have him walk away from the light, meaning he might have been either more powerful than he thought or LITERALLY too dumb to die!
  • Likewise, a lot of people are brought back when God resets the timeline, especially those that died in Akira's world.
• Because You Were Nice to Me: Edd's friendship with Mikiko (and later, Yumi) goes both ways with them in terms of this.
  • Miko is a lot more cordial and, despite some strife involving the meet, understanding with Ed for this reason, as well. Especially because he avenged Kunkun and calls her 'Miki' all the time.
  • Trax's relationship with Eddy boils down to this.
• Benevolent Boss: From the sound of it, Kaim is this to the other demons, as they give him encouragement to ask out Sirene.
• Beware the Nice Ones: Pazuzu and his company learn this FAR too late in Part 5, when Ed gets serious for once.
  • By Part 9, Double D when he fuses with Vis and becomes Vishnu.
• Big Damn Heroes: Before Edd can get raped at the Sabbath, Mikiko fires a discreet acid blast at the rapist's ass. Likewise, Akira does this for his friends when he becomes Devilman.
• Big Eater: As per usual, the Devilmen. Edd first witnesses this when Mikiko nearly devours an entire snack table full of meat. She still offers to share, though.
  • Ed is also this, as he manages to eat just as much food as Akira.
• Big Man on Campus: Akira. Eddy tries to become this through him, with predictable results.
• Birdsof A Feather: Ed and Kunkun, whom both like obscure comics and staying outside the norm.
• Body Horror: Demon possession, as per the norm.
• Breaking the Fourth Wall: The narrator will occasionally do this, referring to the actual episodes these are taking place in and, in one instance, calling out the word count system on Deviantart.
  • Ed and Jinmen engage in one in Episode 7, remarking about the plot and even serving as a Call-Back to Ed's home series.
• Brick Joke / Running Gag: The jawbreaker keeps showing up in random places, though, as Kaim observes, there might be more to it...It finally ends in Episode 5 when the jawbreaker becomes Devilbreaker.
• The Bro Code: Jinmen invokes this so Ed can run at the Meet without worrying about how Miko will react.
• Call-Back: In terms of the Eds, when Eddy plans for Ed to join the track-and-field championship, Ed brings up that one time he wanted to become a mascot. Naturally, Eddy's not having any of it.
  • Part 6 has Double D, once again, get overexcited over using firearms. Only, this time, they're not water-guns.
• Cannibalism Superpower: Sort of for Devilbreaker. He does gain quite some power when he absorbs demons, but they're sent to a pocket dimension within him, so they're not really dead. When he's destroyed, both Sirene and Saylos are freed.
• Cannot Talk to Women: Edd, though this is subverted when around Mikiko. He's obviously nervous, but because of how they met, he's much more comfortable talking with her. Doesn't stop him from blushing madly whenever they get close.
• Canon Foreigner: Vis, the new demon that now inhabits Edd's head.
  • Jinmen's wife and child are sorta this. While they're based off characters from teh Go Nagai World OVA, their appearances are massively different.
• Canon Immigrant: Mikiko, due to her much bigger role. She also retains her anime appearance from Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman.
  • As of Part 2, her ward, Yumi, has appeared. Zuboo is also mentioned, though he's implied to be dead.
  • Part 5 brings in Pazuzu, whom only made an appearance in the Devilman/Cyborg 009 crossover series.
  • Part 6 brings Saylos as well, also from Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman as Sirene's cellmate within Devilbreaker.
• Canon Welding: The concept of Kronos, a Review Team concept from MasterOfNintendo, is an important aspect of the Ed's religion.
  • Heck, by the end, it's revealed that the Portal Crisis caused by Sir Cinemacus is the root cause of this whole fanfic!
• Casanova Wannabe: Eddy tries to play it cool at the Sabbath to limited success.
  Eddy (referring to Edd): Man, he's not gonna last long. Unlike, you know, me! I'm a natural ladies man!
  Ryo (shaking his head): I severely doubt that.
• Cigarette of Anxiety: Kaim frequently does this when stressed, as in canon.
• Chain Pain: Kevin sports a chain he intends to whack the Eds with after they mess up his bike.
• Character Catchphrase: Vis will occasionally ask (very loudly, usually) Edd if he's afraid, especially when he's angling for the creation of their Devilman form. He gets it in Part 9, but it's done endearingly and tragically at the same time.
• Cheerful Child: Yumi, to an extent. Taro also counts, but we all know that won't last long...
• Chick Magnet: Akira, much to Eddy's delight when he tries to exploit it. It doesn't work.
• Childhood Friend: Aside from the Eds, there is Kaim and Sirene. We even get a flashback scene of them training together!
  • Beleaguered Childhood Friend: Kaim, NATCH.
• Chekhov's Gun: Broccoli and its effect on Ed. Namely, it causes him to run so fast that he's suddenly able to qualify for a famed meet. That, and the hours of training he does later on.
• Cool Big Sis: The best way to describe what Mikiko is to Yumi.
• Comic Trio / Big, Thin, Short Trio: Who do you think?
• Commonality Connection: Eddy and Kaim bond based on the fact that they don't get girls...even though Kaim is the kidnapper of the greedy one!
• Composite Character: Devilman gains the Devil-Beam he had in his other incarnations.
  • Jinmen has a wife and kid like he did in the O.V.A Go Nagai World. The only difference is that they don't look like him and the wife is considerably larger. He also has his accent from the Demon Bird O.V.A, as well as several powers from the manga (such as flight and extendable limbs).
  • King Ghidorah takes cues from his Rebirth of Mothra incarnation, as he feeds on the souls of children and is generally considered to be a walking apocalypse, even by Ed. A big trait unique to his Showa incarnation is his appearance as a ball of fire that forms into him, although this version is more dynamic. His defeat results in him turning into a single Dorat, which connects to his Heisei origin.
• Conservation of Ninjutsu: Pazuzu's army suffers this at Ed's hand and, eventually, Miko's wrath.
  • Devilbreaker, during Part 6, attempts to invoke this, but then his weakpoint is uncovered.
  • Ed manages does it again in Episode 7 to a bunch of army mooks, even managing to avoid their bullets perfectly.
  • Episode 9 has Double D/Vishnu unleash this upon Devilbreaker's forces.
• Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Ed, as one might guess. The only example so far of this in effect is the fact that he can run faster than 'Akira' when scared or excited. This is even more apparent in Part 5, where he kills a demon commander with his rage!
• Cry for the Devil: Literally, as Akira, even after all that Ryo/Satan has done, weeps for him when he's finally defeated.
• Cue the Rain: Happens when Kaim mourns the loss of Sirene.
• Dark Fic: It's a crossover between a wacky, lighthearted cartoon starring three wannabe scammer kids and a depressing anime about man's inhumanity to man and the complete breakdown of global society, with gruesome deaths galore. In the fic, the Eds wind up digging a hole all the way to Japan and get caught up in Akira Fudo's war against Satan and his demons, with all the horror it entails.
• Dark Messiah: Satan to all of the demons, but he just cares about using them to get back at God, really.
• Darkest Hour: Part 9, for reasons that should be obvious (the Demon-Human war, for one thing...)
• Death Seeker: From the sound of it, Vis doesn't seem that fazed by the possibility of Edd's heart overriding his soul. Edd even comes to this conclusion. Revealed to be because he realized God's plan. He actually does manage to die due to letting Edd take him over, but it's in the form of a Heroic Sacrifice.
• Defiant to the End: Kunkun, despite taking a heavy blow from Pazuzu, manages to slice off his snake head with a smile before being reduced to paste.
• Demographic-Dissonant Crossover: Essentially, this fanfic is a crossover between the mildly naughty but largely family-friendly Ed, Edd n Eddy with the violent and often sexual Devilman Crybaby.
• Dying Moment of Awesome: Near the end of the story, our heroes tend to do this. Nothing left, after all, right?
• Digging to China: Ed inadvertently digs a hole that transports the Eds to Tokyo, Japan, kick-starting the plot.
• Dirty Kid: Yumi, when she finds some Playboy magazines in Nagasaki's room.
• Do Not Adjust Your Set: Ryo, as in canon, attempts to invoke this at the arena, but, due to Yumi's tampering, it ends up showing this. This winds up humiliating him, but don't worry. Devilbreaker brings on the panic soon enough.
• Doesn't Like Guns: Edd is strong in this belief until Mikiko and Yumi help him out. From there, he only uses them if necessary, even getting WAY into it when he uncovers Devilbreaker's weakness.
  • The Gunslinger: Heck, Edd, of all people, seems to have become this!
• Dogged Nice Guy: Aside from Edd, there's Kaim. Even the other demons take pity on him. Later, Eddy starts to pity him as well.
  • Ed is shaping up to be this, as Miko grows more and more abrasive. She's thankfully calmer in Part 7, having her priorities more straight due to the havoc going on around her.
• Doomed by Canon: Due to the Edds' arrival, this could be averted, but several characters that died in the original DO indeed die anyway. Based on the start of it, though, Akira's world could be this.
  • The apocalypse DOES indeed happen, but it's all reversed at the end of the fanfic.
• Dragged Off to Hell: Satan by the Red Guy at the end.
• The Dreaded: Among Demons, they not only fear Devilman, but also 'Ed'.
  • To say nothing of King Ghidorah, who's mere presence is enough to send powerful and religious people mad, as well as absorb children.
• Driven to Madness: Donald Trump, due to Rex Formido's (actually, King Ghidorah's) coming, is reduced to screaming in despair and panic. Also counts as Go Mad from the Revelation. Heck, Ghidorah's mere presence does this to anyone who's politically powerful or religious.
• Dude Looks Like a Lady: Ed seems to think this of Ryo with his white coat, as he mistakes him for his mom. Naturally, he panics.
• Dumb Is Good: Ed, obviously.
• Earn Your Happy Ending: Boy howdy. By the end of the fic, to put in summary, everyone has gotten what they want, but mostly everything returning back to normal, a link between Akira's world and the Eds, a whole planet for the demons to inhabit, and the villains punished. The Eds even become popular among the kids like in the Big Picture Show!
  • That said, King Ghidorah has a good chance of returning...
• Easily Forgiven: Jinmen...if only because Ed believes the phrase "I'm sorry" is enough. Naturally, the demon turtle used it to his advantage.
  • Downplayed with the others when they find him out. Akira merely decides he's not worth killing in his current state. Thankfully, this doesn't come back to bite them, despite Jinmen gaining his form back later.
• Enemy Mine: Jinmen forms this with the unassuming Ed, as he either wants to kill Devilman in vengeance or get back to his family. Whichever comes first. Even after Ed discovers what he did to Akira's parents, he's easily forgiven based on him saying 'sorry'.
  • Kaim later joins the gang in Part 6 to defeat Devilbreaker, although he's much more cooperative and affable. Naturally, he pulls a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Trax's team-up would be considered this, due to her being a demon, but she's more grateful and there isn't a bad bone in her body.
• Entertainment Above Their Age: Yumi finds a few Playboy magazines in Nagasaki's room and clearly enjoys them.
• Epic Fail: Eddy's attempts at using Akira to net him cash fall utterly flat in Japan.
  Eddy: What's this place doing to my scams?
  Edd: Instilling a sense of humility and grace, I hope.
  Vis: Yeah, but not enough. He's still dumb as Hell in my book.
• Epunymous Title: A staple of the Eds manages to be incorporated into the actual titles of the Devilman episodes, as the first one is titled "I Need You...Like a Hole in my Ed".
• Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Kaim isn't exactly evil, if at all, but his devotion to Sirene is genuine.
  • Jinmen, despite the horrible acts he'll commit in Part 4, has a loving wife and child.
• Everyone Can See It: Maybe with Edd and Mikiko(confirmed in later chapters). Definitely with Akira and Ryo (despite it all coming from Ryo's side).
  Eddy: Just kiss already.
  Edd: It does seem there are some closed doors that need opening.
• Expy: From his music to his speech pattern to his motivation, Devilbreaker shares quite a lot in common with Zamasu. Heck, he's even British, bringing some Goku Black parallels.
• Eyes Do Not Belong There: As in canon, Mikiko has a pair near her crotch, courtesy of Tolg.
  • Vishnu's got, on each hand, an eye and his very HEAD is a giant eyeball with rows upon rows of teeth inside of it!
• Faster Than They Look: Turns out, Ed is very much this. Eddy even starts to have him train for the championship to make an actually honest buck.
• Fearless Fool: Ed, at first, is all for taking on the demons. However, he then gets a taste on what an ACTUAL demon attacks looks like at the Sabbath... Still, as time goes on, he shows less and less fear.
  • Eddy starts growing more bold in Part 7, as Devilbreaker can tell you.
• Feather Motif: One of Sirene's fallen feathers is this for Kaim, whom thinks she was killed by the Jawbreaker.
• Fire-Breathing Weapon: Eddy is given a flamethrower during the Nagasaki studio raid, which he uses to air-blast himself to where Akira heads off to and, later, incinerate Ghelmer.
• Foil: Edd is this to Ryo. Edd is is a nice, if not neurotic would-be professor, Ryo is an utter sociopath that would do anything to achieve his goals. Naturally, they don't like each-other one bit. Not only that, but while Edd becomes a vicious-looking and brutal Devilman for the sake of good, Ryo's true form as Satan is that of an angel.
• Foregone Conclusion / Failure Is the Only Option: The Demon-Human war, as shown in the prologue, will still commence. As well as the horror and pain that it implies...
  • Naturally, the war happens, but that's not where it all ends.
• Foreshadowing: Edd dismisses a quote from a random book he owns as ludicrous. Said quote is paraphrased from Ryo's "No such thing as Love" speech. It's a sign that the Eds and said character will certainly NOT get along.
  • To say nothing of the jawbreaker that keeps tormenting Kaim, whatever it is...leading up to, in Part 5, the Jawbreaker becoming sentient, powerful, and hostile. Come Part 6, it becomes another antagonist named Devilbreaker.
  • Every time Ed is shown to be stronger or (especially) faster than anybody imagined all leads up to him awakening Ultra Ed-stinct.
• Friend Versus Lover: Ed's dilemma in Part 6 is when he has to choose between fulfilling his promise to win in the run for Eddy or purposefully lose so Miko can feel more satisfaction. He goes with the former, but just in time for the chaos to occur.
• From Nobody to Nightmare: Devilbreaker began life as a simple jawbreaker until he suddenly became sentient, was filled with demonic energy, and soon became a powerful demonic entity.
  • Edd, when he finally becomes Vishnu. In fact, as in canon, becoming a Devilman guarantees this.
  • Ed, who awakens Ultra Ed-stinct within himself. Naturally, everyone is mystified when he gains nigh god-like power.
• From the Mouths of Babes: Yumi tends to curse a bit.
• Genius Ditz: Ed, when he calls curry a Japanese form of gravy. Even Edd is impressed by that form of flexibility and knowledge.
• Go Mad from the Revelation: Vis, when he learned of the infinite loop God set the universe on, didn't take it well and became a Death Seeker since.
• God Is Good: Kronos, God of Cartoon Network, is stated to be terrifying, but benevolent.
• God Is Flawed: This is in stark contrast to the God of the Go Nagai universe, who isn't nice at all. However, he undergoes a Heel–Face Turn upon seeing the final battle's results.
• Happily Married: Jinmen, surprisingly, to an un-named serpent/squid demon. They even have a daughter.
• Happy Fun Ball: The Jawbreaker, as it turns out, has demonic energy in it through unknown means and can absorb demons to increase its power, eventually becoming Devilbreaker.
• Harmful to Minors: Downplayed, as the Eds are mentioned to be young adults at this point. However, they're still woefully unprepared for what's about to go down.
  • In Part 2, Edd is still very much rattled. He gets better and the others are dealing with it in their own ways.
• Hazy-Feel Turn: Kaim, but especially Jinmen, whom has selfish plans, but ultimately looks like going back to his family is the highest priority. Kaim undergoes a full-on Heel–Face Turn, while Jinmen remains affable enough to stay on the good side at the end.
• Hearing Voices: Edd experiences this with Vis before they meet.
• Heel–Face Turn: Kaim, Sirene, Jinmen (sorta), and God.
• Heli-Critter: Trax, who can use her lower tentacles to function like propellers.
• Heroic Sacrifice: Vis, ultimately, allows Edd to take him over completely to save his friends from the mob and Devilbreaker in Part 9. He even says he's proud of him.
• Hidden Depths: Kaim, while nobody's looking, likes to listen to nightcore songs. Based on what he's listening to in Part 2 (Everytime We Touch), they're all romantic.
  • Sirene is also part Seagull and can call upon her family to assist her. As revealed in Part 6, she is also a HUGE fan of cheese, as Devilbreaker found out too well...
• Hitchhiker Heroes: The Eds to Akira and Ryo.
• Hollywood Acid: Mikiko's breasts can shoot out streams of this at her foes.
• Horror Hunger: Devilmen have to eat tons of meat a day or else they'll attack and eat humans, as in canon. Mikiko and Yumi have had to endure this for years and they don't want Edd to suffer the same fate.
  • This is eventually rectified by Rolf's sausages, which are easy to make and fill up a demon (as well as Devilmen) rather easily. It's one of the products that the new Demon world revels in.
• Hostage Situation: To lure Akira to Sirene, Kaim kidnaps Eddy, but is extremely professional about it. It even leads to a moment of clarity between the two.
• How We Got Here: The narrator intends to catch the readers up to speed as to the war in the beginning and how the Eds fit into all of it.
• Hypocrisy Nod: When Edd advises that Eddy should exercise more so he could dial down his stress, Eddy responds like this.
  Eddy: Hey, pot. Name's kettle. Have we met?
  • Jinmen loves to use these to psychologically torment his foes.
• I Have Many Names: King Ghidorah has such titles as "King of Terror/Red Formido", "Eater of Stars", and, of course, "Monster Zero".
• I Owe You My Life: Eddy is very much grateful for he and his pals being saved by Akira from the demons. Despite wanting to exploit him and the adventures they'll have, he still considers him such a great guy that he won't throw him under the bus too much.
• Ignore the Fanservice: Ed does this at the Sabbath, as he's more enamored with the neon lights and trapeze acts. He even starts dancing with the crowd.
  • However, upon seeing Miko's new body, he can't help but stare.
• Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Pazuzu, by way of Ed's fist.
• In-Series Nickname: Ryo is given two unflattering ones. Namely, "Ryo the Weirdo" and "Oreo". He does not appreciate this at all.
• In Medias Res: The start of the prologue takes place way after the fanfic truly begins. It's heavily implied that this is taking place during the Demon-Human war.
• Intergenerational Friendship: Maybe with Eddy and Taro, but a straight example with Edd and Yumi. The fact that they both wear hats to cover their deformities helps. Also, a bit with Eddy and Yumi.
  • A budding one seems to be forming between Kaim and Eddy, based on their talks in Part 5. They eventually become partners alongside Trax.
• Interspecies Romance: Another Master Of Nintendo staple, we have Eddy and Trax (Human and Full-Bloodied Demon), as well as Ed and Miko (God-like human and Devilman).
• Intrigued by Humanity: Vis, when he asks why Edd is still friends with his compatriots. In fact, he shows a few signs of this throughout his appearances.
• Involuntary Shapeshifting: Trax can shape-shift, but it's not usually the desired result. For example, she turns into a wheelbarrow...in the air...with Edd and Eddy holding onto her.
• Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Eddy, as in canon, though his moments of this are actually quite numerous. Trax and Kaim take his side rather well due to this.
  • Vis may seem like a crass and even violent demon, but he begins to show his softer side to Edd over the course of the fic, ending with a Heroic Sacrifice / So Proud of You moment.
• Jerkass Has a Point: Edd can't help but agree that Ryo's distrust against humanity doesn't have its reasons. It's just the rate.
  • Vis also agrees with Ryo about humanity's doom, but he hates how he puts it.
• Jet Pack: Eddy has one to combat Jinmen during Part 5, complete with a baton to whack his head!
• Lemony Narrator: Whomever is telling the story is rather foul-mouthed and crass at times.
• Light Is Not Good: Aside from canon examples (looking at you, Ryo), Devilbreaker counts.
  • From the looks of it, so does Rex Formido, as he's associated with light while people are panicking about him. And then it's revealed he's King Ghidorah...
• Literal-Minded: Edd, after mentioning he's mostly vegan, actually thinks a "Live Naturally" bumper sticker when he gets his license wouldn't be so bad. Mikiko was only joking, you know.
• Loser Protagonist: If Part 1 is anything to go by, the Eds are still this. Akira...not so much.
  • Downplayed later on, as the Eds show that they can still get through the adventure in their own ways.
• Losing Your Head: Jinmen suffers this by the end of Part 4. Even worse, his chosen company now is Ed.
• Made of Iron: Ed, when the patrons start beating up our heroes, merely responds to his beatings with a little game of "That's My Horse".
• Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Mikiko and Edd.
• Meaningful Name: Vis' name, possibly, is based on the Latin root word for "see". He keeps claiming he saw something he shouldn't have, so that might have something to do with seeing into the future.
  • Devilbreaker isn't just a pun off of "Jawbreaker", but it also reflects what he intends to do with other demons. Basically, beat them up to maintain a godly image (and absorb a few along the way).
  • Rex Formido, in Latin, means "King of Terror". Fitting, for something that can kill planets. VERY fitting for the one known as King Ghidorah.
• Morally Ambiguous Doctorate: Edd rightfully thinks this of Ryo when it's mentioned that he's a professor from the United States. Imagine if he noticed the American license on his car while they were in the middle of Japan! To say nothing of how low Ryo goes later on.
• More Teeth than the Osmond Family: Vishnu's eyeball head? It's filled with rows upon rows of sharp teeth!
• Morton's Fork: If Edd lets Vis take him over, his personality will be wiped and a new violent demon will be born. If he overcomes Vis (or if he allows him to, he becomes a Devilman with a serious hankering for meat.
  • In Part 9, the both of them agree on the latter, granting Vis a Heroic Sacrifice. Thankfully, the Horror Hunger is taken care of.
• Mythology Gag: There are plenty to be found related to the Eds, but a notable example is when Eddy is beset by a massive bird demon at the Sabbath. His hatred of birds just got made manifest.
• Named by the Adaptation: The flying demon in Episode 2 is named Samiral. Not that it saves him from dying in the same amount of time.
  • That Devilman from Episode 7 that was burned? She not only survives and has her species changed to that of an actual demon, but is named Trax.
• The Napoleon: Eddy, per the norm, snaps back at a drug peddler that calls him short.
• Nerds Are Sexy: Mikiko considers Edd cute.
• No True Scotsman: Pazuzu is quick to list Jinmen as a failure and worthy of death because of it.
  • Ryo calls out Kaim and Trax for their more admirable traits. If only he realized he's actually...you know? Later, Ryo/Satan makes it his mission to not only kill the humans, but also any demon that dared stray from the norm.
• Noble Demon: Aside from Kaim, Vis may have a foul-mouth, but he's giving Edd a fighting chance to overcome him. Of course, Edd is told by Mikiko that this means a serious case of horror hunger.
  • Trax is this even more, to the point where she's just a nice girl.
• Not So Above It All: Sirene may appear to be a stone-cold demon hungry for revenge, but, in Part 6, she essentially fangirls over types of cheeses to pass the time.
• Not So Stoic: We already knew Ryo had a few examples in canon, but one exclusive to here is when Yumi screws up the footage at the arena to humiliate him. Suffice to say, he throws a mini-tantrum and destroys his Ipad until the situation goes in his favor.
• Odd Friendship: By Part 1, the Eds have formed this with Akira. This is especially the case with Eddy, whom, while trying to exploit him, is legitimately grateful for him saving their lives.
  • Ditto for Edd and Vis, whom is a demon living in his head now.
  • Eddy and Kaim, based on the look of things.
  • Ed and Jinmen, but it's mostly Ed trying to be friends with him. The turtle demon is just stringing him along, but even then, he's respectful in a way.
• On the Next / Find Out Next Time: At the end of each part, it ends like this.
• Off with His Head!: Jinmen suffers this as well as getting impaled by Akira's arm. And even THAT fails to kill him!
• Only Sane Man: The moment Ryo enters the scene, the Eds, Akira, and Mikiko are quick to call him out.
• O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Whenever Ed gets serious. A prominent example is when King Ghidorah arrives. All he can do is refer to him as "Death". He's seen his movies, after all.
  • Actually, pretty much every time Ed gets serious, expect things to have gone REALLY south and/or for him to start kicking ass.
• Our Demons Are Different: The narrator makes no effort to hide that he's rather impressed that no two demons are the same.
• Pity the Kidnapper: Eddy towards Kaim, after he expresses his woes.
• Planet Killer: King Ghidorah and proud of it. In actuality, he feeds off of despair, but that doesn't mean he won't adhere to this.
• Playful Hacker: Yumi now fits the bill as of Chapter 6, when she hacked into Ryo's footage of the Sabbath, replacing it with a humiliating video.
• Please, Don't Leave Me: Ryo/Satan, while being dragged to Hell, begs Akira not to leave him, despite being beyond redemption at this point.
  • He also has a near realization that he truly loves him in that kind of way, but his possessiveness ruins it.
• The Resenter: Kaim to Amon, for obvious reasons.
• Ship Tease: Between Edd and Mikiko. It helps that she rescued him from a rapist at the Sabbath.
  • Also, Akira and Ryo, but it's as subdued as in canon. Akira and Miki is not out of the question (and it wins out).
  • As of Part 2, Ed and Kunkun harbor feelings for Miko. It just keeps growing from there.
  • Eddy with Trax in Part 7. Yep. In fact, all of the ships you see here (barring Akira and Ryo) come true.
• Seen It All: The Eds seem pretty okay when confronted with demons after the Sabbath, but they still had much to time to really think about it. Eddy keeps up a damn good facade, Edd adjusts to the fact that this opens up a new world of research (not to mention being helped by Mikiko and Yumi), and Ed is...well, Ed.
• Shout-Out: Edd quotes Dune while training with a gun in Part 5. It's even lampshaded by Mikiko and Yumi.
  • When Ryo/Satan rants about his hatred of the Eds during Part 11, he actually paraphrases Dan Backslide's meme-tastic speech from The Dover Boys! Complete with him drinking at the end!
• Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: By Part 5, the Eds cannot STAND Ryo, but work with him nonetheless. Edd almost loses it more times than usual when putting up with him, even.
• Say My Name: Kaim screams out Sirene's name when he thinks the Jawbreaker killed her.
• Skeptic No Longer: Edd, by the end of the Sabbath, will never again disbelieve the notion of demons among us.
• Skewed Priorities: After hearing Ryo's tale about how demons are rising, Eddy still has his doubts, but he's rather interested in making a scam based on demon hunting. When everything goes to Hell, however, his priorities are no longer skewed.
  • Miko, thankfully, isn't a victim of this in Episode 7.
• Spared by the Adaptation: Akira, Miki, Miko, Jinmen, Sirene and Kaim, by the looks of it.
  • And now, we have Trax from Episode 7.
  • It's easier to list those that stayed dead at the end of the fanfic, when Kronos and God fix everything.
• The Stoner: Ed's aunt to a seemingly violent degree.
• Strange Minds Think Alike: Both Mikiko and, subconsciously, Ryo agree that Akira might have become the most powerful, brutal, and ruthless devil of them all. The phrase is even stated in the narration.
• Superpowered Evil Side: Vishnu appears to be this when he revels in his power, considering this is Edd we're talking about, but he gains control of it rather well.
• Take That!: When Eddy comes up with the "Ed Demon Hunters" scam idea, he thinks it'll be much more believable than the fake ghost-hunting shows all around.
  • Vis, in Part 3, takes a jab at Youtube's copyright system.
  • Part 5, due to how much was cut out of it, lashes out against the Deviantart word count system. The NRA also gets a jab by Edd.
  • Part 6 offers one against Donald Trump, as he goes insane as a result of Rex Formido coming to the planet soon.
  • Part 10, when the heroes are traveling through the portals, potshots at Teen Titans Go!, Dude, What Would Happen, and even the original Devilman OVA. Heck, the second one has Eddy taking a tire iron to the hosts (considering that show put Cartoon Network in a state of Network Decay, can you really blame him?).
• Talking to Themself: Edd whenever he speaks with Vis.
• Tempting Fate: Edd decides to lay low until the Sabbath is over to both survive and keep his innocence intact. Then, he nearly gets raped until he's saved at the last minute.
• Thinking Up Portals: The whole reason this story starts, as per the Master Of Nintendo norm. The portal within the lake both gets the heroes in and out of Akira's world, causing them, in Part 10, to go through several portals before reaching the Ed's world. By the end of the fanfic, the portal is now in a different location that the Eds found.
• Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Between her recounting how she became an orphan and her somewhat foul mouth, Yumi has a case of this.
  • Later, she shows in interest in pornography and handling a pistol.
• True Companions: Aside from the Eds, despite their flaws, Akira is shaping up to be this with them.
  • Heck, any of the characters who treat the Eds nicely are bound to become this. Well, mileage varies really.
• Vagueness Is Coming: Whatever Rex Formido is, it's heading towards Akira's world and fast...
• Villainous Breakdown: Ryo and Devilbreaker suffer this in Part 6. The former when he's humiliated at the arena and the latter when he's getting beaten. They've gotten over it in Episode 7.
  • Devilbreaker suffers these a lot, especially around his defeat, where he's reduced to making toothless threats.
  • Satan falls into a full-blown one near the end after our heroes had escaped the apocalypse. Both he and King Ghidorah both have this when they're defeated, with the former being dragged kicking and screaming into Cartoon Network's version of Hell while screaming for Akira. The latter is humiliated until he's reduced to throwing a huge tantrum and being sent back into space.
• Villainous Friendship: King Ghidorah actually seems to think this of his team-up with Ryo/Satan, considering the latter caused so much despair for him to feed on. The feelings aren't shared, but they still manage to work pretty well together.
• Villainous Glutton: King Ghidorah, who feeds on despair, refers to every one of his rampages in terms of being served food, even calling Ryo/Satan a "waiter".
• Violence is the Only Option: According to Vis, that is, as he encourages Edd to shank Ryo with some glass during a confrontation in Part 3.
  • Kinda sorta the pep talk Edd gets in Part 5.
• Weaksauce Weakness: Downplayed. After King Ghidorah has been gravely injured after the final battle, he is able to be shrunken down to a Dorat due to being insulted multiple times. Given he feeds off despair, it's possible he can't be powerful whenever he's deprived of it.
• Wham Episode: Part 5, being the halfway mark apparently, brings us Ed's victory of a horde of demons and the Jawbreaker becoming a powerful demon-like creature. Oh, and it's heavily implied that this isn't taking place in the Ed's world or universe even!
  • Part 6 continues this, as not only are the demons revealed to the world, but some...thing named Rex Formido is coming and it just destroyed a planet in its wake! Also, the fact that the Eds aren't in their universe is all-but confirmed.
  • Part 7 goes on as normally as possible, but not only do the heroes gain another demon ally (Trax), but Rex Formido is revealed to be none other than King Ghidorah.
  • Part 10 has Yumi's soul devoured by King Ghidorah.
• What the Hell Is That Accent?: In-universe, as the narration is confused as to what kind of accent Jinmen has.
• "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: The series as a whole ends as this, with the heroes getting a well-deserved happy ending:
  • The portal to Akira's world reappeared behind Eddy's house, allowing the Eds access and vice-versa.
  • Eddy and Trax still hang out, with the latter as his Morality Pet.
  • Edd's parents have accepted his new Devilman lifestyle, with him still dating Mikiko and Jimmy even becoming his wingman (possibly because this allows him to get closer to Sarah).
  • Jinmen reunited with his family, taking up a diet of wild animals instead of humans. He's apparently been attempting to reconcile with Akira, leading to an "interesting" Thanksgiving.
  • Ed and Miko have a good relationship, though the latter occasionally has Miki and Akira over for most likely sexual ventures. They also hang around the revived Wam and his gang.
  • Speaking of which, there are rumors that Miki might become Devilwoman.
  • Kaim and Sirene produced a child, with Saylos as the godfather. The child, Raijin, is quite powerful and Edd and Eddy are the somewhat reluctant babysitters occasionally.
  • On the flip-side, Ryo/Satan is sufferign and crying in Red Guy's domain, while King Ghidorah is still at large, but in a weakened state.
• Yandere: Turns out, Ryo/Satan is (not surprisingly) this for Akira, hating Miki on sight when they actually meet during the final battle.
