Fanfic / Drawn to Life (MHA)

Go To

Angrily, he took the pencil and began scribbling. Before he knew it, he had drawn a crude, stick figure version of himself and Bakugou, with his stick figure punching Bakugou’s in the face. He was so mad, that he just wished for nothing more for that picture to be reality.

POOF!

Midoriya Izuku jumped back, startled. The paper he had been drawing on was... gone! It was all gone! Instead, the two crude stick figures had come to life, and were on his desk. Stick figure Izuku was punching stick figure Katsuki, while the two made little... gibberish noises.

Drawn to Life by NicktheHuman is a For Want Of A Nail fanfic where Izuku starts with a quirk that lets him take his art to life.

No relation to the game of the same name.

Drawn to Life contains examples of:

  • Abled in the Adaptation: All for One is cured of all his injuries during the Shie Hassakai arc.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Without Uraraka to give a positive association to Deku, Izuku instead chooses Vinci as his hero name.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: All of Izuku's relationships with his peers in UA's hero classes are rewritten as a result of him being placed in 1-B. This applies to Tokage Setsuna and Yanagi Reiko in particular, as they're childhood friends here.
  • Art Attacker: Izuku's quirk, Animation, allows him to animate his drawings. It gets even stronger when he's given One For All.
  • Backstory: Yusuke Takemi gives his in Chapter 53. He is the original owner of Animation and his vestige has been with Izuku since he was four when All for One gave his son the Quirk. He was alive back when All for One was presenting himself as a sort of Hero and Yusuke's Quirkless son went to work for him to get his own Quirk. After a year passed with no news, Yusuke himself went to All for One for answers. All for One agrees to give them in exchange for Yusuke Animating his The Bad Guy Wins stories. Yusuke agrees but he eventually learns his son died due to getting an incompatible Quirk and Yusuke tries to leave only to be killed by All for One himself.
  • Batman Gambit: How Izuku and Shishida overcome Kendou and Tokage in the Heroes vs. Villains exercise at the beginning of the term: Knowing Tokage will float her head to check floors one at a time, Midoriya makes an elaborate and attention-drawing dungeon and decoy on the penultimate floor and hides the real bomb at the top floor. His plan to run out the clock works.
  • Big Sister Bully: Setsuna's older sister Sakura constantly derides her life choices. Their parents are furious with Sakura since the resulting toxic relationship causes severe familial tensions and is extremely damaging to Setsuna.
  • Brought Down to Badass: All for One may have lost his Quirk which reduces his threat level, but he still has enhanced strength and speed, necessitating heavy restraints anyway.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Reiko helping Izuku with One for All by doing a séance turned out to be important down the line. Because of that ritual, Reiko develops enough of a connection to One for All to remember the real world when all of the first year Hero students get trapped in a dream world.
  • Combo Platter Powers: By getting creative, Izuku can do a lot with Animation, including mimicking a fire Quirk in his battle with Todoroki.
  • Depower: Izuku permanently defeats All for One by using one of Overhaul's Quirk Erasing Drugs on him.
  • Disappeared Dad: Izuku's father was not around since he was four after All for One faked his death. Inko is furious to know the truth and said he should have come clean about his past at the very least instead of running like a coward. It actually leaves All for One speechless.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: All for One is personally unsure of his feelings, but through his actions, it is clear that he is genuinely attached to his son Izuku and his wife Inko.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: All for One is outraged to learn that Overhaul has been experimenting on a child for his quirk-destroying drugs.
  • Everyone Can See It: Izuku, Setsuna, and Reiko all liking each other is obvious to everyone around them. Yui actually checks with Setsuna and Reiko before she tries to make a move on Izuku.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: During the Festival, when Izuku realizes he doesn't actually need paper for his Quirk to work, and can just draw right on his skin.
  • Graceful Loser: All for One accepts his defeat at the hands of his son Izuku.
  • Heroic BSoD: Izuku enters a catatonic state in the aftermath of the Shie Hassakai raid where he learns All For One is his thought-to-be-dead father.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Class 1-A's rescue training is still disrupted by the League of Villain's attack in spite of Izuku being in 1-B.
  • Internal Reveal: Chapter 35 has All for One figuring out All Might gave One for All to Izuku.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: There were plenty of hints before then, but Chapter 35 confirms All for One is Izuku's father.
  • Mental World: During the Cultural Festival, All for One traps Izuku, all of the other first year hero students, and the One for All vestiges in a mental landscape created by Chris' Quirk. To escape, Izuku needs to find all the vestiges but only Reiko can help by virtue of being the only one to remember the real world.
  • The Mole: The traitor turns out to be Power Loader.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Izuku's hero name Vinci is obviously taken from Leonardo da Vinci.
  • No One Should Survive That!: Tomura manages to survive All for One putting a giant hole in his chest since the latter managed to miss the former's heart and Recovery Girl was able to stabilise him.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently, All Might dealing with Overhaul is the second time he had to deal with a yakuza boss who could merge with his subordinates.
  • Not His Sled: The outcome of the League of Villain's invasion of the Summer Camp is completely changed. The villains did not succeed in capturing anyone. They only got a decoy Izuku made that's actually a bomb which wipes out a lot of their membership.
  • Oddball Doppelgänger: The All Might Izuku creates during the Exam, which include the dwarfish Small Might, Cowboy Might, Slenderman All Might, and Randy Savage All Might.
  • Parents as People: The Tokage parents ultimately have come to support Setsuna being a hero, but because they work a lot/aren't home often, they have been unable to ease tensions between their daughters.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Shigaraki invites Eri to play video games with him.
    • All For One does his best to comfort Izuku after he is diagnosed as Quirkless, even giving him the art quirk he was using during the story to cheer him up with the discovery he has a Quirk after all.
    • Inko's relationship with Shigaraki develops from this to the point Shigaraki chooses to protect her from All for One.
  • Point of Divergence:
    • Izuku is placed in Class 1-B because Vlad protested Aizawa getting both Todoroki and Izuku.
    • The winner of the Sports Festival is Izuku instead of Bakugou, which results in the former getting over nine thousand offers.
    • Stain is defeated after the Summer Camp instead of during the Internship arc since Izuku never encounters him during the Internship arc. Without Izuku there to save him, Iida is injured severely enough to enter into a coma.
    • All Might's confrontation with All for One does not happen after the Summer Camp arc, so the world does not find out about his true form and he holds out as a hero a little longer.
  • Polyamory: Izuku, Setsuna, and Reiko eventually settle into a triad relationship. Yui also wants in and they accept her.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Inko gives one to All for One that throws him off completely. Being accused of cowardice for abandoning a civilian who loves him to fight Heroes who despise him leaves him completely speechless, and he has to walk away for some time to evaluate himself even.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Several to Phineas and Ferb:
      • The fake backstories Izuku uses when he plays the villain in class exercises, such as being raised by ocelots and having to work as a lawn gnome, are pulled directly from Dr. Doofenshmirtz's backstories.
      • While up against the Shie Hassaikai Yakuza, All Might comments if he had a nickel for every time he fought a yakuza boss who could use his Quirk to merge bodies with two of his underlings, he’d have two nickels.
All Might: Which isn't a lot, but it was weird that it's happened twice.
      • During the beginning of the Summer Camp arc, Izuku draws up a very familiar hovercraft to fly over the Beast Forest.
Pixie Bob: A platypus-shaped hovercraft? *Izuku adds a fedora to the hovercraft* ''PERRY THE PLATYPUS-SHAPED HOVERCRAFT?!
  • Slut-Shaming: Setsuna's sister Sakura calls her a whore for being in a polycule with Izuku and Yanagi. Their parents are outraged at Sakura talking about her sister like that.
