Go To

Adventures. I hate them. From here to there, I'm being forced to climb, swim, and travel. Through snowy banks, hot factories, deep dark lakes, and then some. Crocodiles want me dead, fish want me dead, and, from what I've heard, a robot wants me dead. Plus, for some reason, Kiddy's crying again. Great. Is he hungry? Or did he crap himself. Of course. He crapped himself.
Dixie Kong

Double the Trouble by MaverickKayPrime is a novelization of the Donkey Kong game Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!.

The Kong Family are vacationing on the Northern Kremisphere after defeating King K. Rool in both Donkey Kong Island and Crocodile Isle. However, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong go missing overnight, and Dixie Kong sets out to find them. Before she can begin his quest, though, Funky Kong foists her huge and naive baby cousin Kiddie Kong on her.

Very soon, Dixie discovers the Kremlings are up to something again, and she is being hunted by their new leader, KAOS.

Tropes found in this fanfiction:

  • Attack Its Weak Point: When she fights a strong enemy, Dixie often looks for anything glowing or shiny on their bodies since they are usually weak spots.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: In its last-ditch attempt to kill the Kongs, the snowman Bleak grows to gigantic size.
  • Bad Boss: Krumple is prone to overwork and put his subordinates down, and he abuses them physically when they step out of line.
  • Bear Hug: Kiddy tends to give spine-crushing embraces with his oversized arms as soon as he sees someone he likes. Dixie does not appreciate them, though.
  • Beary Friendly: Barnacle, the bear who lives in the middle of Lake Orangatanga, treats Dixie kindly when she lands at his island, readily warning her of the dangerous nature of Northern Kremisphere and (not so readily) lending a map to her.
  • Big Bad: KAOS, the new leader of the Kremlings, has invaded the Northern Kremisphere, and to ensure the Kongs cannot interfere with his plans, has kidnapped Donkey and Diddy and sent his reptilian soldiers after Dixie.
  • Blatant Lies: Before taking off for the Northern Kremisphere, Diddy tells Dixie he has heard it is kind of boring. Dixie easily sees through his blatant attempt to talk her out of coming.
  • Death Glare: When Re-Koil points the Kongs have defeated Arich, which not even he could have done, Krumple glares him into automatic silence.
The blue crocodile's eyes sharpened into a threatening glare, making his subordinate close his mouth in fear.
  • Determinator: When Dixie and Kiddy reach Bleak's House, the monstrous snowman opens the battle Bleak opens the battle with a barrage of huge snowballs, and then making dozens of snow hands erupt from the ground and strike Dixie. Dixie is on the receiving end of a painful beatdown, but she refuses to give up because she is fighting for her family's lives. She will not be stopped.
But Dixie would not be stopped so easily. She wasn't just fighting for her life, she was fighting for Kiddy's life as well. Hell, she was fighting for Diddy and Donkey Kong's lives as well. She couldn't be stopped here!
  • A Dog Named "Dog": The pack of Kremlings who hound Dixie across the Kremisphere -Krumple, Re-Koil, Bazuka, Kobble, Koin...- are named after their respective species.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Dixie gets her Bubblegum Shooter, which she canonically got in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, eighteen years after Dixie's Double Trouble.
  • Friendship-Hating Antagonist: The Kremling Kommander, Krumple views the Kongs as weak because they care about their friends and family. In contrast, he views the Kremlings' lack of kindness and compassion as a form of strength.
  • Grim Up North: Bleak, one of the most dangerous minions of KAOS, is a snowman who lives on the snow-capped summit on the highest mountain in the K3 range, the northernmost region of the Northern Kremisphere.
  • Ground Punch: The Kongs are fighting Bleak but nothing seems to work until Kiddyy and Dixie start slamming the ground with his fists and her ponytail repeatedly until they bring Bleak's base down onto its head.
  • It's All My Fault: Dixie blames herself when Ellie is kidnapped by Krumple.
  • Kill It with Ice: Bleak uses its control upon upon snow to try to crush and bury Dixie and Kiddy under an avalanche of giant snowballs.
  • Neck Lift: When a Kobble dares to talk back, Krumple puts his hands around his minion's throat and lifts him high before threatening him.
Krumple suddenly latched his hands around the crocodile's neck and lifted him high. As Kobble choked in his hands, Krumple shot him a powerful glare.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Dixie is so frustrated when her boat is floundering in the middle of a great lake due to the actions of a trio of idiotic Kremlings that she curses angrily, prompting Kiddy and Ellie to stare at her in shock.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: Before blowing Bleak up, Dixie states "Say hi to Really Gnawty for me."
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: When Diddy tells he and Donkey are going out without Dixie, the blonde monkey dons her bubbly eyes and quivering lips expression. It almost works.
  • The Ruins I Caused: Dixie and Kiddy bring Bleak's underground base down, and then they rush out of there. Once they are outside, Dixie turns around to stare at the entire complex collapsing.
  • Spin Attack: As fighting Bleak, Dixie is surrounded by multiple snow hands pounding on her from all sides. Then Dixie swiftly spins her ponytail around and whips all hands at once, turning them back into mounds of still snow.
  • Stay in the Kitchen: As arguing with Diddy, Dixie has the feeling that Diddy does not want her to go to the Northern Kremisphere because he thinks it is too dangerous for her. She finds his overprotectiveness more than a bit galling, given that they fought their way through Crocodile Isle and defeated King K. Rool.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: As a last resort to get rid of Bleak, Dixie gets Kiddy throw a snow ski at Bleak, and then she shoots the gas container, blowing both the vehicle and Bleak up.
  • Super-Breath: When their boat's engine malfunctions, Ellie uses her trunk to propel the boat by sticking it in the water and blowing air.
  • Tagalong Kid: Dixie is cajoled into taking her baby cousin Kiddy Kong with her as she explores the Northern Kremisphere.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: When Bleak has grown into a giant monster, after normal methods have failed to kill him, Dixie decides they are hurling a snow ski at its face and blowing the vehicle up.
  • Virtue Is Weakness: Krumple, the Kremling commander, deems the Kongs to be weak and feeble-minded because they care for family and friends.
The apes had just left one very important detail. They were such weak-minded creatures, obsessed with family and friends. But Kremlings lacked such compassion for their fellow beings. It was a weakness, not a strength.
