Fanfic / Double Death of the Author

Go To

An alternate ending to Homestuck from Game Over onwards. The major nail in the story being that John didn't go back in time to receive instructions from Terezi, meaning that he didn't go back to prevent Vriska's death. Instead John goes back just before the events of Gameover and Roxy restores everyone's memories by removing the nonexistence of those memories, catching everyone up to speed on the situation.

What comes next is a fic that tries to continue the character development from before the retcon while also dodging the plot holes created from the original ending.

The story can be found on MSPFA.

Considering that this is an alternate ending, there will be spoilers for Homestuck.

This fanventure provides examples of:

  • Aborted Arc: One of the main reason for the fanventure is the amount of these caused by Homestuck's sudden ending.
  • Alternate Universe Fic
  • Back for the Dead: Erisolsprite
  • Brought Down to Badass: Jade knocks the Green Sun out of the range of the session, losing all the powers that she gained from being fused with Bec. She's still a god-tier Witch of Space.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Karkat and Kanaya know that the Condense needs them alive to bargain with Echidna. They use the opportunity to call her out for a few things.
  • Cloning Blues: Davesprite as in canon.
    • Lil Hal mentions that considering he was created from a brain ghost that from his point of view he was Dirk until he spontaneously was a pair of glasses.
  • Killed Off for Real: Aranea, Meenah, and Vriska.
  • No Waterproofing in the Future: Lampshaded. It's how they defeat the mind-controlled Jane.
  • Other Me Annoys Me: Dave and Davesprite.
  • Ship Tease: This is Homestuck.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Erisolsprite gives one to Jake, telling him that while he always asked for advice he never bothers to actually consider the advice given to him.
  • Stepford Smiler: Downplayed. Jake tries to act that he completely forgiven Dirk and Jane for what happened between the trickster incident and Game Over. Neither one of the two buys it.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Considering that John doesn't retcon all the way to before the Scratch, Davesprite doesn't get killed by Bec Noir.
  • Advertisement:
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Unlike in canon, Rose witnesses her timeline's Roxy's demise instead of finding the body a long time afterwards. She's genuinely upset that no one told her about the doomed Roxy.
  • You Kill It, You Bought It: The Condense as in canon is under an immortality curse where she has eternal life in exchange for being a slave to Lord English. Whoever kills her gains the curse. while in canon this is later forgotten about, here Jane decides not to kill her for this very reason, opting instead to capture her.
