- Death by Childbirth: One of the deceased people Coleta meets on the day she first met Hector is "a woman lost to childbirth".
- For Want Of A Nail: This fic diverges from canon because Hector knows from the very beginning that Ernesto murdered him. Because of this, Ernesto cannot reap the benefits of his fame in the Land of the Dead.
- In Spite of a Nail: Ernesto is still adored by the living and Hector is still unable to cross the marigold bridge.
- Karmic Death: One of the dead guys who arrived at the same day Hector did is "a man who had been shot down while attempting a robbery".
- Meaningful Name: Coleta. Her job in the Land of the Dead is to collect new arrivals to help them accept the fact they're dead.
- Mistaken for Gay: Ernesto assumes Coleta "must be a lesbian" since she doesn't adore him like his female fans do.
- Oh, Crap!: When Coleta calls the authorities to arrest Ernesto for his crimes against Hector, Ernesto finally understands he's in the Land of the Dead and Hector is there.
- Villain with Good Publicity: Ernesto is still this among the living but not among the dead since Hector told them about his murder.
