Boiling Isles and Beyond is a The Owl House fanfiction series that functions as a Fan Sequel to Season 1. It fellows the episodic nature of the series, but features darker content and more swearing, the author revealing they intend on following Dana Terrace’s original ideas for a more mature, but no less whimsical series.

After the events of "Young Blood, Old Souls", the residents of The Owl House have been lying low to avoid the Emperor's Coven. After a while, Luz decides to return to Hexside to continue her training to become and witch and maybe find a way home. Unfortunately, Belos has learned Lilith had taken Eda’s curse, and is looking to take them out before "The Day of Unity".

As of February 2021, the series is currently on hiatus while the author deals with mental health problems. A few months later in July, the author confirmed that the series is effectively cancelled on a whim after a bad mental breakdown.

Tropes in the fic include (SPOILERS ARE UNMARKED):

  • Abusive Parents:
    • Eda and Lilith are revealed to have suffered from this. Their parents were equally abusive to them and each other. They were so bad, Eda admits to having Catapult Nightmares about them.
    • The Blights are absolutely monstrous excuses for parents. Every interaction with their children is laced with domineering orders and threats of physical harm, and they’re homophobic to boot. When Amity comes out in the most spectacular fashion, they kick her out during the boiling rain, knowing full well this could get her killed.
    • Luz of all people is implied to suffer from this. Watching Boscha abuse Bo caused her to pull a memory out of the deepest part of her mind to see a man who might be her father standing over and beating her mother. Just like any child from an abusive home, she fears becoming like this unnamed man.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Both Clawthrone sisters were revealed to have Abusive Parents before Lilith cursed Eda. Individually, Eda was mentored by a Con Artist who stole everything from her and left her to fend for herself. Meanwhile, Lilith found happiness and love with a woman named Jade, only for her to be killed in a raid on a rebel base.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: While Luz and Amity are still their confirmed sexualities, the author has also confirmed and/or changed the sexualities of other characters. Eda and Skara are Bi, King and Lilith are gay, Gus and Hooty are asexual and Willow is Pan.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Jade was absolutely terrified while dying, begging Lilith to save her.
  • And I Must Scream: While in their Owl Beast form, Eda reveals one is forced to relive the worst moments of their life over and over until they’re pulled out. Lilith can attest to this, seeing as she took the Owl Beast part of Eda’s curse.
  • Anti-Villain: A lot of focus is put on the fact the Emperor’s Coven, outside of its leadership, is mainly filled with good and normal people. Jade, Lilith’s late wife, was unambiguously a Nice Girl who genuinely believed Belos was doing right by the Boiling Isles. Despite killing rebels, she thought they were terrorists and she’s presented as just as much a victim of Belos’ dictatorship as the rebels they killed. Even Eda, despite her hatred and distrust of the Emperor’s Coven, admits she sounded like a remarkable woman on the wrong side of history.
  • Arc Villain: A lot of the “episodes” having a main villain of their own.
  • The Atoner: Lilith is still making up for her actions in canon. Not only has she taken the curse, but she also helps Eda with anything she needs.
  • Ax-Crazy:
    • Bloudhound is a sadistic Psycho for Hire who kills for profit and fun.
    • The Salesman gets rather rabid about some his employees stealing from him.
    • Tibbles previous defeats have left him quite unhinged.
    • Boscha is a abusive, murderous sadist of a girl with a Hair-Trigger Temper.
    • Odalia Blight has a short fuse that results in an explosive rage. After Amity comes out, she screams for Warden Wrath to kill Luz and the others. Even Alador wasn’t expecting her to be so blatantly homicidal.
  • Batman Gambit: Amity fully knew that coming out and revealing her relationship with Luz would cause her parents to throw her out and that's also what she was banking on.
  • Big Bad: Emperor Belos, of course.
  • Butch Lesbian: Lilith is a downplayed version. She was sporty in her youth and wore a tuxedo during her wedding, but other then that is pretty Straight Gay.
  • Cool Teacher: While she is no longer teaching after turning on Belos, Lilith proves herself to truly care about her students when she comes across two being held captive by The Salesman. She risks her life to save them, and when one of them is killed, the rage and despair is enough to cause her to finally lapse into her Owl Beast form.
  • Darker and Edgier: Explicitly Abusive Parents, violent death, homophobia and much more brutal violence then in canon.
  • Dark and Troubled Past:
    • Luz is implied to have an abusive father who would beat her mother in front of her. She doesn’t remember this, so it’s implied she locked the bad memories away.
    • Eda, on top of what happened in canon, also suffered from Abusive Parents before hand, and was also mentored by a Con Artist who ended their final lesson by stealing all her belongings and leaving her to fend for herself.
    • Lilith, Lilith, Lilith. Suffered the same abuse as Eda did, with it being revealed her mother often called her nothing. Then canon happened when she cursed Eda only to learn she was going to throw the fight for her. Then the even worse thing happens when she meets a woman named Jade, fell in love and married her, only for her to get killed in a raid on a rebel base. The fact that Lilith now knows the rebels are the good guys only makes this cut deeper.
  • Death Wail: Lilith throws her head back and screams at the Heavens until her throat gives out after Jade died in her arms.
  • Determinator: While he is definitely evil, Tibbles has survived being ravaged by crazed Unicorns and being struck hard enough to shatter every bone in his body while also sent flying into the boiling sea to be broiled alive.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: Jade died in Lilith’s arms after getting an ice shard through the chest.
  • Domestic Abuse:
    • Luz's mother is implied to have suffered from this.
    • Eda and Lilith’s parents were mentioned to be as equally violent to each other then they were to their daughters.
    • Boscha is horrifically abusive to her girlfriend Bo, although she wasn't always like that.
  • The Dragon: Since Lilith has turned against him, Kikimora now serves as Belos’ right hand woman.
  • Duck Season, Rabbit Season: Eda pulls this trick on King to get him to wear a Dalmatian costume for Halloween.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Played straight but tragically subverted. Even Amity and Skara, who hate Boscha now, admit she was nothing but kind and loving to her girlfriend, Bo. Unfortunately, Boscha’s increasing stress caused by Willow stealing her popularity and her friends realizing how toxic she was and cutting her out of their lives lead to her abusing Bo. Any love she had left for her is extinguished when Bo leaves her.
  • For the Evulz:
    • Bloodhound kills a Cyclops family to use their house as a lure for Luz, and because he was bored about having not killed anything in a while.
    • Boscha is confirmed to have no Abusive Parents who pressure or abuse her. She, as Skara put it, was born bad and embraced it.
  • I Just Want to Be Free: Amity longs to be out from under her parents’ thumbs. Thankfully, after coming out by singing a song from girl in red at gala hosted by the Blight family, and while she was kicked out in the middle of a boiling rain storm, Amity finally gets her freedom.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Deconstructed Trope. Eda looks back at the times Luz believed she was the chosen one and went to fight Grom against Eda’s words were because Eda and King mocked her instead of explaining why she was wrong, so Luz was too hurt by their mockery to listen. It left Eda feeling guilty and that she failed as a mentor, especially because it’s how her father treated her, and Luz, being the Nice Girl that she is, is much more supportive when she’s teaching Eda.
  • The Lost Lenore: Jade to Lilith. Jade was the only person Lilith had for a long time, and her death absolutely shattered her.
  • Please Wake Up: After Jade died, Lilith desperately shook her body, begging her to wake up. She did this for minutes on end before the ugly truth clicked in and she realized her wife was well and truly dead.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Aside from being abusive monsters of parents, the Blights are incredibly homophobic.
  • Smug Snake: Alador believes he has complete control over his children. When Amity gives him a not-so-subtle hint she’s going to ruin the Blight Gala, he just shrugged it off. When Amity’s plan began, he was completely blindsided.
  • Tickle Torture: Amity learns that Luz is ticklish and fully intends to take advantage of it. Luz quickly realizes that she's screwed.
  • Unishment: After Amity comes out, her parents disown her and throw her out. Amity is overjoyed by this as she is finally free from their grasp and she gets to live with Luz.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: They haven't started dating yet at that point, but Amity goes berserk on Bloodhound when she finds him about to torture Luz.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Bloodhound murdered a Cyclops family, including their child, and was fully planning to torture Luz.
