Be More Proactive This Time Around, Luckster is a Danganronpa fanfic created by jean010.

The main premise behind this work is that Makoto Naegi from the main series has traveled back in time prior to the end of the world, hoping to prevent the downfall of both it and the numerous characters who were involved. The story starts in media res after some level of success with his plans, now while dealing with old and new potential threats he also has to deal with being the main target of affection for his many, many friends.

Be More Proactive This Time Around, Luckster provides examples of:

  • Adaptation Amalgamation: Due to the nature of the plot for the third game installment, the work makes it so its cast is the newest year of Hope's Peak Academy, with some minor changes to certain facts to properly work whilst attempting to keep character intact.
  • Alternate Timeline: The entire point of Makoto's adventure backwards in time is to prevent the tragedies that caused his future. Its revealed later on that his future still exists, but atleast he still saves these same people from the same events his world faced.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Makoto isn't only protective of his biological sister, he is also the same for his younger classmates and the five Lil'Ultimates that he acts as a big brother towards.
  • Broken Ace: Makoto is an unusual example. He's not the ace in the same sense that Izuru Kamukura was but nevertheless he does come across as Hope's Peak Academy's Hypercompetent Sidekick. He juggles his work as Class Representative, helping Class 79, helps Kizakura with scouting and recruitment and there is his undercover work trying to stave off Despair. This all ends up taking a toll on Makoto's mental health and he's trapped between asking for help but causing his friends even more worry and possibly giving Despair an opportunity to start the Tragedy again or doing it himself but being helpless and unable to explain when his friends nonetheless try to help him anyway.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Makoto has not only the romantic attention of Kyoko, Sayaka, Mukuro, Celeste and Hina, he also has many outside of his own class. This also includes Miu, Kaede, Natsumi, Sonia, Mikan, and in a twisted form Junko.
  • Day in the Limelight: The work includes interludes describing past events prior to the start of the fanfic, through the eyes of those relevant such as Nagito, Toko, Korekiyo and Chiaki and a main chapter with Hajime.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: In a general sense, everyone tends to fall victim to this whenever Makoto is spending time with someone else. More specific examples include Monaca towards Komaru and the other 'Lil Ultimates, Junko towards the new Ultimate Despair, Miu towards Gonta when Makoto needed someone to help him.
  • Heel–Face Turn: By the start of the story, Mukuro has abandoned Junko and is essentially bodyguarding Makoto.
  • Hope Bringer: As a chance to quite literally save people from problems affecting them both internally and externally, Makoto lives up to his more recent title of Ultimate Hope.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother: Korekiyo is this immediately refusing to give Makoto a chance due to his relationship with his sister. He gets over it after Makoto shows genuine interest in anthropology and when he help Korekiyo through his sister's operation.
  • Loved by All: Per this work paralleling and expanding the natural conclusion of the main games school mode, our resident Ultimate Lucky Student has such strong relationships with so many eccentric personalities that they fight over his time and attention. Event the canon antagonist to the original game has a high level of affection for him, if in a extremely twisted corruption of it.
  • Magnetic Hero: Makoto. He's basically won the hearts of the entire school, either through being himself or by helping the students in their times of need. Deconstructed as he's become such a Magnetic Hero that his schedule is repeatedly blocked up by students fighting for his time or helping Hope's Peak Academy and because he's so adored everyone notices when somthing is wrong but Makoto doesn't want to open himself up because of the threat Ultimate Despair poses.
  • Noodle Implements: Regularly used and alluded to when describing Makoto's relationships with the other students.
  • Not Me This Time: Junko is not the Big Bad of the story. In fact she seems to be in a similar position to Makoto where she's being toyed with by said antagonist.
  • Peggy Sue: Of a sort. The main premise is that the Makoto of canon has gone back in time to before the Tragedy. However, because this part of Danganronpa's story was not particularly explored Makoto's experience with the Tragedy doesn't impact the story much besides giving him some angst to hide from the others.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Junko doesn't take too kindly to the new individual claiming to be Ultimate Despair when they lay claim upon Makoto. She has a worse reaction when their message manages to make him a array of negative emotion nearing or reaching some level of despair, something she usually attempts and is focused on.
