Midoriya Izuku gave up his dream of becoming a hero a long time ago, and not long after, realized how corrupted society was. In a world where quirks were the basis of everything, he didn't stand a chance, instead opting to provide for his mom and live a normal life. Now, if only everybody would stop pestering him to be a hero!

Accidental Hero is a My Hero Academia fanfic by CashewsAndCoconuts, following a rather oblivious Izuku as he accidentally takes down villains in his pursuit to financially support his mother. Unfortunately, this story is now a dead fic since the author has left the Archive.

Not to be confused with the trope of the same name.

Tropes contained in Accidental Hero:

  • Accidental Hero: It’s literally the title of the work. Izuku has stopped dozens of villain attacks simply by not knowing his own strength and being completely oblivious to when there are villains in the area.
  • Accidental Truth: During his ranting to "Yagi" about All Might exploiting him, Izuku states that Endeavor could be a child abuser for all people know.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: When Izuku is young, his father ends up dying in a villain attack in America, forcing his mother to find work to support them and ultimately causing Izuku to give up on his dream of being a hero.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Izuku acts far more oblivious and innocently naive overall, along with being less shy. He also has some minor greed added to his character.
  • Badass Adorable: Izuku is regularly described as precious by other characters. He also has enough strength to carry fully grown adults like they weigh nothing and managed to take out 47 different villains in two weeks by accident.
  • Broken Pedestal: Downplayed and Played for Laughs. Izuku loses some of his respect for All Might after discovering he overworks the sickly Toshinori, unaware the two are the same person and the secretary's introduction is just a cover story.
  • Commonality Connection: Izuku and Ochako almost immediately bond and become partners after realising they both have the same goal: money.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Katsuki ends up believing a whistle Izuku gave him will summon the green-haired boy via his All Might fanboying to eliminate a target. In actuality, all the events were unrelated to Katsuki blowing the whistle.
    • Katsuki also comes to the conclusion that Izuku is a hitman because of this and Izuku’s suspicious explanations.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Izuku is quirkless but has an absurd amount of strength that allows him to crack stone and knock out villains without trying.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: The deciding factor that made Izuku decide to join the UA Entrance Exams (he was given a job to do so) was seeing the amount of injuries that come as a result.
  • Crack Fic: Of the crack treated seriously variety.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Izuku's regular acts of accidental vigilantism often end up like this, with him taking out his opponents before they can even see him coming.
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: Izuku, to the point of being utterly oblivious to just how strong he is. He has a bad habit of literally running into thugs with such a great force that it slams them into walls and believes someone messed with the hinges on his locker when he accidentally rips the door off.
  • Enemies List: Subverted. Everyone thinks Izuku’s notebook is a hitlist, dubbed the Blacklist, but he notes that the only list he has in there is a grocery list.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Katsuki ends up believing that Izuku has become a hitman after witnessing Izuku taking down several people. He ends up getting his entire junior high to believe so as well.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: During Izuku’s crusade to help out injured examinees during the Entrance Exam, everyone he rescues ends up crushing on him, with several boys apparently having gay awakenings in the process.
  • Gilligan Cut:
Izuku: [narration] The school wouldn’t release an unstable giant ass robot in the last few minutes of the exam, right?
    [cut]
Nezu: Release the unstable giant ass robots now.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Tsukauchi and Aizawa’s general reaction whenever they have to deal with the general insanity Izuku ends up accidentally causing. During the Entrance Exam, Aizawa drinks a tequila and a whiskey bottle just from seeing Izuku ripping the robots apart.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Izuku still meets the Sludge Villain in the underpass, All Might drops the villain after beating it, and then Izuku helps save Katsuki from the villain’s second attack.
    • All Might still offers Izuku One for All.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Apparently Izuku one time started a nationwide hunt for a mothman at three in the morning. And, as with most things he does, he did so completely unintentionally.
    • Whatever caused Izuku to gain his strength is also a mystery. The most Izuku ever says about it is that he’s had heavy-lifting jobs before.
  • Point of Divergence: Izuku’s father ends up dying when he’s still young, ultimately pushing Izuku to give up on being a hero.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Both Izuku and Nezu refer to the Zero Pointers as "unstable giant-ass robots".
