A Tale of Two Kats is a BattleTech fanfic that can be read here
. Cloud Cobra mechwarrior Katherine Steiner joins the Wolf Dragoons' mission to the Inner Sphere after being captured in battle by Natasha Kerensky. However, it turns out she's the spitting image of Katrina Steiner, and arriving out of the Periphery right around the time Katrina vanished into the Periphery... something that embroils her in the politics of the Inner Sphere.
A Tale of Two Kats provides examples of the following tropes:
- Adopted into Royalty: Once the real Katrina Steiner turns up, Katherine thinks she can just go back to the Dragoons. However, Lisa Steiner has been mothering her for quite a while and isn't inclined to give up on that.
- Happily Adopted: Having grown up in a Clan sibko, Katherine wasn't mothered as a child. Having Lisa Steiner treating her in a motherly fashion is a significant emotional event and she's very nearly as happy to gain sisters in Lisa's biological daughters Katrina and Nondi.
- Mistaken Identity: Katherine looks uncannily like Katrina. To be fair, they are very distant cousins.
