Fanfic / A Load of Bulk

Go To

A Load of Bulk is a fanfiction of The Loud House.

The fanfiction was written because the author wanted to write a multi-chapter story, felt that Lana didn't have enough fanfiction about her, and felt it would be cool to write a story where Lana needs to learn a lesson.

While Lisa is away at Boston for a week to give a lecture at MIT, Lana finds a strength-boosting formula in Lisa and Lily's room (it has a B for "beta" labeled on it, but Lana thinks it means "big") and, wanting to be strong, drinks it. Sure enough, it definitely does make her strong, but because it's in the testing stages, it also makes her mean, aggro, and very muscular and she needs to eat a lot more.

Interspersed with the story is a series of journal entries written by Lisa before she left for MIT. These entries chronicle Lisa observing the effects of the formula on a lab rat, who exhibits similar symptoms as Lana does.

As a side note, this fanfic was authored by MrTyeDye, a prominent Loud House fanfiction writer who also wrote Peeking Through the Fourth Wall, but he has confirmed that the two fanfics don't take place in the same universe, meaning Lana isn't huge and shredded during Peeking.

A Load of Bulk provides examples of:

  • Afraid of Needles: Apparently, Lana is nervous about getting shots, which is part of why she doesn't trust doctors.
  • Agony of the Feet: Discussed when Lynn says that there's no way the beefy Lana could hurt herself with the weight set unless she dropped it on her foot.
  • Anger Born of Worry: When Lana finds Hops, she's irritated at his habit of wandering away because she gets scared whenever she can't find him.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Interruption: Lana thinks, "I'm huge! I'm ripped! I'm—" only to have Lola shout her name. Granted, she probably wasn't going to think, "I'm Lana", but the two sentences still make sense when pieced together.
  • Bathroom Control: When Lana becomes very mean as a result of drinking a serum her Child Prodigy sister Lisa made, one thing she does is block the doorway to the bathroom, making her other sister, Lucy, wet her pants.
  • Big Eater: One of the side affects of the potion is it causes Lana to become extra hungry, eating about 50% more than she usually does.
  • Big "WHAT?!": When Lisa finds out what had happened to Lana, she exclaims, "She WHAT?!"
  • Bratty Half-Pint: The potion makes Lana mean, insulting her siblings, glaring at them, and demanding she armwrestle with Lincoln (leading to him being injured).
  • Death Glare:
    • Lana gives Lynn an intimidating glare when the latter suggests the former go to the doctor.
    • Lana glares at all her siblings when they look at her in fear/disgust/shock at the dinner table.
    • When Lana dislocates Lincoln's arm, her sisters (except Luna and Lynn who are busy carrying him) and Lynn Sr. all glare at her.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Although Lisa experimented on a rat, she stopped her experiment when the rat was in pain.
  • Fight for the Last Bite: Played for drama. There's one slice of pizza left, and everyone is hesitant. Eventually, Lincoln suggests having it, but Lana decides to armwrestle for it, which ends up injuring him.
  • Foul Medicine: When Lana drinks the potion, she notes to herself that it tastes bad but "medicine isn't supposed to taste good".
  • Handwriting as Characterization: Lana misspells many words because she is only six years old.
  • Healing Potion: The potion Lana drinks was initially created to heal broken muscle.
  • Injured Limb Episode: When Lana armwrestles with Lincoln, he ends up dislocating his arm.
  • Jerk Jock: The potion makes Lana mean (insulting her siblings, not letting Lucy go to the bathroom, and armwrestling with Lincoln despite her new muscle) and also makes her inclined to do exercises.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: When Luan makes a joke about it being breakfast, Lana rolls her eyes.
  • Literal Ass-Kicking: Lana painfully slaps Lucy on the butt when teasing her for wetting her pants.
  • Little Miss Snarker: While Lana is big while under the affects of the potion, she's still a six-year-old girl, and the potion gives her a snide mouth and makes her say things like "What are you looking at?!" to Lola and "Get used to it, scrawny!" to Lynn.
  • May It Never Happen Again: Lana drinks a chemical she found in Lisa's laboratory, which causes her to become ripped and gives her a shocking change in personality. Later, she nearly dies from the contents of the formula, and she promises herself not to touch anything in Lisa's lab without permission again. Lisa also decides to keep anything particularly dangerous out of reach.
  • Naked People Are Funny: When Lana starts to grow too buff for her clothes, she wonders if her parents will let her walk around naked and giggles as, being a six-year-old, she finds nudity hilarious.
  • Not a Morning Person: Leni is described as having "tired eyes" in the morning.
  • Potty Dance: When Lucy needs to pee, she has her legs clenched together.
  • Potty Failure: Lucy wets her pants when Lana doesn't let her go into the bathroom.
  • Pun: When Luan sees Lana eating her breakfast quickly, she quips, "I know it's called breakfast, but still!".
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: When Lana lifts weights for the second time, she says, "They're... too... LIGHT!".
  • Stylistic Suck: In contrast to Lisa's lab entries in the first four chapters, Lana's diary entry in Chapter 5 has several grammar and spelling errors... which is par for the course for a six-year-old with average intelligence as opposed to a four-year-old Child Prodigy.
  • Super-Strength: The main affect of the potion Lana drinks is that it gives the user superhuman strength, with the user's strength growing with time.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Lori asks Leni to get Lynn (as in Lynn Jr.) to lift the couch:
Lori: "Leni, could you go get Lynn?"
Leni: "You mean our sister, or Dad?"
    Lori: "Either."
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: Downplayed as she’s treated as a bully, so she starts acting like one. It is even lampshaded in this quote.
Lana: “If everyone's gonna treat me like a bully, I'll start acting like one.”
  • Waxing Lyrical: Luna exclaims, "Good golly, Miss Molly!", which is a lyric from the song "Splish Splash, I Was Taking a Bath".
