A Chance Encounter
is a Harry Potter fanfiction. It deals with Harry meeting Daphne Greengrass and her family rather than the Weasleys at King's Cross, changing the direction of his time at Hogwarts.
There's a sequel called The Slytherin Reformation.

- The obstacles for the Philosopher's Stone are noticeably harder, with cursed fire, magical constellions and a mountain troll that nearly kills the kids.
- Dumbledore is the one to rescue Harry, rather than the Weasleys.
- In Spite of a Nail:
- Harry still saves Hermione from the troll and later befriends her and Neville;
- Harry and his friends still end up in the Forbidden Forest during a detention where they face Quirrelmort;
- Harry and his friends are still drawn towards the mystery of the Philosopher's Stone and have to face the obstacles when Quirrel tries to reach it.
- Harry still ends up with the Dursleys after his first year and the first act of Chamber of Secrets still occurs, albeit offscreen.
- Odd Friendship: Between the Ravenclaw Roxanne and Gryffindor Lily Potter.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Dumbledore gives one to the Dursleys. Downplayed in that we only hear the ending, though.
