Young Heroes Stay Gold

Young Heroes Stay Gold is a crossover fanfiction featuring characters from Lilo & Stitch, Kim Possible, American Dragon: Jake Long, Gravity Falls, Amphibia, and The Owl House written by TalktheWalktheTalk.

In it, the stars of the aforementioned shows are pulled from their world by TOM of Toonami fame to watch their respective series in order to prepare for something greater than anything they’ve encountered before.

Read the story here at Archive of Our Own.

Young Heroes Stay Gold contains examples of:

  • Big "WHAT?!": Those who don't know Jumba let out this after seeing him immediately agree to help Stitch after all he put him through.
  • Call-Back: When called a "metal dunce" by Jake, TOM says he deserves that for the potshots he did at the former.
  • Creepy Hairless Animal: Invoked by Rufus in an attempt to make Anne, Luz and Mabel let go of Stitch. Unfortunately for him, they find him cute too and also grab him.
  • Cuteness Proximity:
    • Anne, Luz and Mabel’s reaction when they first see Stitch is to gush over him. Luz even says the same Spanish phrase from when she first met King.
    • Double Subverted by Rufus, who, in the above scene, tries to scare the girls so they let go of Stitch. Unfortunately for him, they just coo over him too.
  • Fangirl: Since she's Famed in Story, Kim Possible finds she has a lot of fangirls amidst the viewers. Mabel, Anne and Luz are the most obvious, but they are joined by Hayley, Grenda, Candy, Wendy, Sasha, Marcy, and even Camila. They even manage to drag everyone to sing "Call me, beep me" with them in chapter 5.
  • Fantastic Drug: The subject of discussion after viewing Tick-Tick-Tick, thanks to Junior.
  • Go Back to the Source: As part of preventing spoilers from occurring, everyone part of the viewing have had their appearances altered to more closely match the versions depicted in the viewing. For many this is largely just a change of clothes or hair, with it noted their actual appearances are still the same, it's just how they're perceived that's different. For others though it's more drastic. Many with scars now lack them, several individuals who lost limbs like Grime or Eda have been granted hardlight replacements, several characters have had their voices heighten in pitch as if they've reverse puberty, Polly has her legs hidden, and Edric has had his full body cast removed even though he can still feel the phantom pain. The American Dragon cast in particular are shown to now more closely resemble their Season 1 designs before the Art-Shifted Sequel. Attempts to try and change their appearances manually only end up triggering the "spoiler alarm", such as Wendy trying to give her hat back to Dipper only for a force to stop them from doing so.
  • Hostile Show Takeover: Implied: the third chapter ends with the Lilo and Stitch movie allegedly resuming earlier than expected, only to play a Darker and Edgier version of the film that contains some scrapped content, all outside of TOM's doing. It happens again on the fourth chapter.
  • I Hate Past Me: From the very first showing, it seems like there will be a theme of characters cringing at their pre-character development. Exaggerated with Sasha, who while still in the prologue goes from fangirling at Kim Possible to having an anxiety attack at thought of her reacting to her screwups.
  • It's Personal: Even though they're not in the same room together, Jumba's "You can never belong" remark earns him the ire of Hunter, Vee, and to a lesser extent Rose.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: The focus of the fic is a "Let's Watch Our Show" Plot focusing on six Disney Channel properties, specifically two sets of shared universes: Lilo & Stitch, Kim Possible, and American Dragon Jake Long; and Gravity Falls, Amphibia, and The Owl House. In addition to the main leads, numerous characters from each series that are close to them are brought with them. The emcee meanwhile is TOM of the Cartoon Network (later [adult swim]) Toonami programming block. Aside from the leads:
    • Lilo & Stitch: Nani Pelekai, Jumba Jookiba, Wendy Pleakley, David Kawena, Cobra Bubbles, Gantu, Experiment 625/Reuben, Experiment 624/Angel, Victoria, and Experiment 277/Snooty.
    • Kim Possible: The Possible family, the Stoppable family, Wade Load, Monique Lydia, Drew “Dr. Drakken” Lipsky, and Sheila "Shego" Go.
    • American Dragon: Jake Long: The Long family, Trixie Carter, Arthur "Spud" P. Spudinski, Rose Thorn, Fu Dog, and Sun Park.
    • Gravity Falls: Stanley & Stanford Pines, Wendy Corduroy, Jesús "Soos" Alzamirano Ramirez, Grenda Grendinator, Candy Chiu, Pacifica Elise Northwest, Fiddleford Hadron McGucket, Tambry, Thompson, Nate, Lee, and Robbie Stacy Valentino.
    • Amphibia: The Plantar family, Sasha Elizabeth Waybright, Marcy Wu, Oum & Bee Boonchuy, Grimothy/"Grime", Olivia, Yunan Longclaw, Bessie, Frobo, Maddie Flour, Ivy Sundew, Mr. X, Jenny, Jan, Terri, and Andrias Leviathan.
    • The Owl House: The Owl House residents, the Blight family (sans Odalia), Willow Park, Gus Porter, Hunter, Camila & Vee Noceda, Lilith Clawthorne, Darius Deamonne, Eberwolf, Raine Whispers, the Palismen, and The Collector.
  • Named In The Adaptation:
    • Shego's actual name was never actually revealed in canon, just the idea her surname was "Go" by virtue of the time she spent as the teacher "Ms. Go". Here, her real name is revealed to be "Sheila Go", though she makes clear she prefers being called "Shego" when Ron takes notice.
    • Monique's surname was never confirmed in canon, but is revealed to be "Lydia" here.
  • Riddle for the Ages: Amity questions why the Demon Realm basic language is identical to English, and has been since before Belos came to power.
Amity: Why do we speak a language developed by humans? Did we even have one of our own? And if we did, what happened to it?
  • Shared Universe: Part of the premise behind the fic is that all six series take place in the same universe, albeit in different time, with TOM being tasked with bringing them together to prepare for a future threat, and each group being taken from the end of their respective series. It helps that, canonically, this is in effect for them anyway.Explanation An Author's Note would clarify the timeline.
    • Lilo & Stitch come from 2005, their adventures spanning three years, and being from 15 years in the past.
    • Kim Possible comes from 2006, her adventures spanning three years, and being from 14 years in the past.
    • American Dragon: Jake Long comes from 2006, his adventures spanning one year, and being 14 years in the past.
    • Gravity Falls comes from 2012, their adventures spanning that summer, and being 8 years in the past.
    • Amphibia comes from mid 2020, their adventures spanning roughly a year.
    • The Owl House comes from 2020, their adventures spanning half a year. This is notably the one series to have it's timeline different from canon, as a Freeze-Frame Bonus in the episode "Reaching Out" indicated the series took place in 2022,note  with TalktheWalktheTalk stating they will be ignoring that detail.
  • Take That!:
  • The Watcher: TOM tells the kids that he was told by one of these to bring them together to prepare them for the coming crisis.
  • invokedWhat Could Have Been: The hijacked showing of the Lilo And Stitch movie contains some IRL scrapped scenes like Lilo's tsunami prank and the plane fight.
