You Got Whacha Want

Go To

During the final battle, Hawk Moth entrusted the stolen Bee and Fox Miraculouses to two of his biggest helpers: Chloé Bourgeois and Lila Rossi. While he managed to steal the Ladybug Earrings and Black Cat Ring, the heroes rallied while he was summoning Gimmi... and the girls took advantage of their distraction. Driven by Envy, Lila convinced Chloé to combine their desires into a single, spiteful Wish that they'd both get everything they desired and deserved, while singling out Marinette to get what she deserved for her naïveté as well.

...To be fair, they didn't exactly have much time to consider their phrasing. Or rather, had to rush to seize their chance before the window of opportunity completely closed.

Still, the Wish was made, and reality was rewritten accordingly. Now everyone has to live with the consequences of Chloé and Lila getting what they thought they wanted... and what they deserved.

You Got Whacha Want is a Miraculous Ladybug fanfic by cornholio4 that was inspired by ChaoticNeutral's The Lament Series. Specifically, it combines the premises of Chloé's Lament with the planned Lila's Lament, as the pair wish to swap lives with Marinette and Adrien, respectively.

Along with Archive of Our Own, the story can also be located at FanFiction.Net here.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Costume Change: Adrien sports a more punk-rock style in the new reality, reflecting how his wardrobe is no longer dictated by his Control Freak father. In Chapter 7, it's revealed that Gabi Grassette dresses the same way, with Chloé and Lila outright gawking at the sight.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: An In-Universe example. Lila finds after waking up in the new reality that she’s joining François Dupont earlier than she did originally in "Volpina".
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Instead of swapping places with Emilie, Lila's mother trades roles with Gabriel, and is much sterner with her daughter than she was before. Given the remarks she makes about how Lila's reputation can't survive another hit, this harshness may well prove to be Justified.
  • Adaptational Job Change:
    • Thanks to Chloé's Wish, Sabine and Tom traded professions with her father; Sabine is now the Mayor of Paris while her husband runs a hotel, and André became a baker.
    • Downplayed with Gabriel/Gabi; while he's still a fashion designer in the new reality, he works independent rather than running a major brand. He also works as the head pastry chef at Tom's hotel.
    • Mrs. Rossi used to be an Italian ambassador, much like Lila often claimed/bragged about in the original timeline, while her husband ensured their surname was recognized as a major fashion label. When he disappeared, Mrs. Rossi started managing it on the side; she gained more time to focus on that after her political career got scuttled.
    • Due to Damocles losing his job prior to Lila and Chloé waking up in the new reality, Mendeleiev became principal of Collège Françoise Dupont much earlier than in canon. Damocles himself is a street sweeper now.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Unlike canon, Gabriel chose to keep his birth name of Gabi Grassette, which leads to Adrien going by the same surname rather than Agreste.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Gabi Grassette is a much nicer and far less strict parent to his son Adrien.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: In this universe, the powers of the Ladybug and Black Cat go to Kagami and Juleka respectively.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • Not only did Lila's mother take over Gabriel's position as head of a high-profile fashion company, she also has the Butterfly Brooch and serves as a supervillain named Queen Moth.
    • Damocles explicitly abused his position as the Principal of Collège Françoise Dupont; not only is it outright stated that he deliberately ignored rich kids being bratty, he tried getting into contact with Audrey in hopes of brokering a deal with her regarding Chloé's bullying of Marinette. On top of that, he was downright eager to spread Malicious Slander about Marinette as part of a plan to sabotage her mother's career.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Compared to Lonely Rich Kid Adrien Agreste, Adrien Grassette is much more energetic, relaxed and openly mischievous, no longer worried about maintaining a "golden boy" image.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Adrien and Marinette’s relationship has a massive change in the new timeline. Instead of Marinette having a crush on Adrien to somewhat concerning degrees and Adrien later reciprocating her feelings, they have a Like Brother and Sister relationship with each other.
  • Alliance of Revenge:
    • Implied to be part of how Hawk Moth recruited Chloé and Lila to assist him during the Final Battle, coupled with good ol' fashioned bribery; both girls had grudges against Ladybug for denying them the things they felt they deserved.
    • Also factored into Chloé agreeing to Lila's proposal to combine their Wishes, specifically the spiteful phrasing. She hates Marinette just as much as Lila and was keen to see her "get what she deserves".
  • As You Know: Luka meets Marinette for the first time at the Jagged Stone concert, but is already familiar with her reputation thanks to his sister. He serves as a means to get Marinette talking about her own history and altered circumstances, along with alluding to an incident from their last semester she hopes will serve as a "wake-up call" for her long-time bully Chloé.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: The original timeline ended with Hawk Moth successfully stealing and combining the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculouses, followed by Lila and Chloé making the Wish while the heroes were distracted dealing with him.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For:
    • The central premise: Lila and Chloé Wish to trade lives with Adrien and Marinette, only to find themselves suffering Laser-Guided Karma as they get what they truly deserve.
    • Despite having the fame and fortune she Wished for, Lila still spun lies about herself because she wanted to ensure people would never stop talking about her. Of course, all the scandals that resulted from her misbehavior certainly ensured that she'd stay in the public eye...
  • Beat: When Damocles brazenly orders all the students gathered around him to rejoice as their "rightful principal" has returned, the whole crowd stares blankly at him for a bit before somebody beans him in the eye with an empty soda can.
  • Became Their Own Antithesis: Gabriel Agreste was an utter Control Freak obsessed with micromanaging his son's image, as well as an utterly unrepentant villain who sought to warp reality to suit his selfish desires. Gabi Grassette, by contrast, is a much more loving and doting parent, who's even shown to share his son's tastes in fashion.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Implied; when Kagami idly remarks to Adrien that it's "Surprising that your mother's side of the family led to you Grassette," he immediately stops teasing Marinette and shoots Kagami a Death Glare.
    • During their falling out, Lila declares that she can understand why Audrey wants nothing to do with her daughter, spurring Chloé to furiously lunge at her.
  • Bookends: Somewhat subtly done. While not explicitly stated who used what Miraculous during the final battle with Hawk Moth, we know that Marinette used either the Fox or the Bee for her final stand. The very last scene reveals that Marinette still has the Fox Pendant, which is now a family heirloom from her grandmother's side.
  • Caught on Tape: Lila and Chloé both fell victim to this in the new timeline; Lila was captured on cell phone video driving the actual girlfriend of an idol she claimed to be dating to tears with her harassment, while Chloé was caught pulling the fire alarm by the school's security cameras.
  • Celebrity Lie: Lila still spins these about herself, despite how her family was already high-profile. This bit her on the backside when her lies were publicly exposed, along with outing her as a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing.
  • Childhood Friends: Marinette and Adrien grew up knowing each other since childhood in the new reality.
  • Class Princess: One of the reasons why Chloé despises Marinette so much is because she saw her as "stealing" this position from her, by virtue of being a Nice Girl who supported her classmates all the time. This status gets solidified in the new timeline thanks to her being Mayor Sabine's daughter, much to Chloé's fury.
  • Composite Character: Downplayed with Gabi Grassette; in addition to being a small, independent fashion designer, Gabi also works at the hotel owned by Marinette's father. Specifically, he's the head pastry chef, borrowing elements from the Dupain-Cheng's bakery and how Marlene worked at the hotel in the original timeline. Chapter 3 reveals that Marlene has just started working at the Dupain-Cheng's hotel as well, with Adrien expressing jealousy that Alya's mother now outranks his father.
  • Defiant Stone Throw: Very Downplayed, but when Damocles declares that he's come back to Collège Françoise Dupont, he takes a soda can to the eye in response.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Chloé arrogantly believed that everything would play out precisely the same way it did in the original timeline, despite the obvious differences, and that she and Lila would get the Earrings and Ring just because they'd "traded places" with Marinette and Adrien. Both are blindsided when a completely different akuma shows up and, more importantly, they don't get the Earrings and the Ring.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • Hawk Moth recruited Chloé and Lila to assist him during the Final Battle, giving them the stolen Bee and Fox Miraculouses. This came back to haunt him in two different ways: first, it allowed the heroes to recover those Miraculouses by defeating the girls, then use them to transform and continue the fight even after he'd successfully stolen the Ladybug and Black Cat from them. Secondly, Lila and Chloé promptly betrayed him and decided to steal the Wish for themselves while he and the heroes were busy fighting each other.
    • Lila and Chloé specifically Wished that both they and Marinette would all get what they deserved, underscoring their arrogance — neither considered how Gimmi might twist their Exact Words around to punish both of them while rewarding Marinette.
    • Chloé schemes to sneak into the hotel using a secret entrance that her father never bothered to cover up... without bothering to confirm whether or not it's still there first, seeing it completely sealed off to her confusion.
  • Disappeared Dad: Lila's unnamed father was the one who ran a fashion empire; his wife took over after his mysterious disappearance.
  • Disinherited Child: Emilie's parents effectively disowned her over her relationship with Gabi. For his part, Adrien isn't especially fond of her side of the family, though he mostly has to deal with his aunt and her "smug little jerk of a son", Felix.
  • Dramatic Irony:
    • Chloé incorrectly assumes that she and Lila will receive the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculouses simply because Marinette and Adrien wound up with them in the original timeline. She even yells at Master Fu to get out of her way because "destiny is calling!", blissfully unaware that her callous treatment of him is actually ensuring she won't get the Earrings.
    • In one Flashback, Principal Damocles laments that Chloé is just a baker's daughter and doesn't have the clout to really ruin Marinette's life, and that the wealthy parent she does have won't return his calls. Not only is he unknowingly referencing how things were originally, he's also unaware of how often Chloé used the threat of André's wrath against him.
    • At the end of the story, the only comfort that Lila and Chloé have is that their shared nemesis Marinette is no longer Paris' beloved hero. The scene then cuts to Marinette's room, where it's shown that she's in possession of the Fox Miraculous, hinting that she'll still become a hero in the future. To add insult to injury to Lila, it's said to be a family heirloom passed down to her from her grandmother — the same story that Lila gave to Adrien when she claimed to be the Fox heroine.
  • Driven by Envy:
    • Lila covets Adrien's fame and fortune, while Chloé sees Marinette as "the school sweetheart" who doesn't deserve to be Loved by All for her kindness and consideration for others.
    • Jealousy also drove Lila to harass the girl who was actually dating a teen idol whom she'd falsely claimed to be secretly dating. Unfortunately for her, she was Caught on Tape mocking her at school...
  • Entitled to Have You: Chloé still feels this way towards Adrien; upon seeing his punk-rock style in the new reality, she promptly complains about having to "sort him out" and force him to dress the way she prefers.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Chloé simply can't wrap her mind around the concept of Marinette not abusing her status as the mayor's daughter.
  • Evil Is Petty:
    • Lila goes out of her way to bring up Marinette while making the combined Wish, as both she and Chloé are spiteful enough to want her to suffer in the rewritten reality... even if that wound up working against them.
    • A Flashback reveals that Principal Damocles was completely on board with targeting a young Marinette when she first started attending his school purely out of a desire to spite her mother for insisting on the installation of security cameras. Driving this home further, his first priority as Street Sweeper is breaking said cameras and going after Marinette.
  • Exact Words: Lila and Chloé specifically Wished to get not just what both of them Wished for, but what they deserved, along with a spiteful desire for Marinette to "get what she deserved" as well. Suffice to say, this ensured that both would suffer Laser-Guided Karma while Marinette recieved a Karmic Jackpot.
  • Fatal Flaw: Chloé and Lila have plenty in common; both are incredibly prideful, self-centered and entitled, and overestimate what they're capable due to their respective Karma Houdini Warranties. While both have faced some consequences for their schemes failing in the past, they've never been severe or serious enough to deter them, and they take it for granted that they WILL get whatever they want, especially now that reality has been rewritten... without taking the time to take stock of everything that's changed.
  • Foil:
    • Chloé and Lila are a pair of Villain Protagonists who combined their selfish Wishes and traded lives with Marinette and Adrien, sacrificing what they actually had going for them in exchange for what they thought they wanted. Chloé unwittingly gives up her family's fortune in the process, while Lila's family becomes much wealthier, but suffers an Adaptational Angst Upgrade.
    • Both girls want to be the center of attention, which directly contributes to their downfall. Chloé convinced herself that the only reason her peers despised her so much was because they were jealous of her family's wealth, and that she'd be Loved by All if she traded places with Marinette, not realizing her personality was always the problem. Meanwhile, Lila wasn't satisfied with her newfound status and kept spinning Celebrity Lies, sparking scandals once the truth got out.
    • Chloé is very outspoken about how much she disapproves of all the ways the new reality doesn't conform to her desires, openly discussing her plans for the future with Lila and treating her as a partner in crime. Lila mostly keeps her thoughts to herself... including how she doesn't really want to work with Chloé or associate with her.
  • Forced to Watch: According to one of the tags on Archive of Our Own, the canon version of Gabriel has been Ret-Goned out of reality and replaced with his much nicer counterpart... and part of his eternal punishment is having to watch how everything unfolds, no longer able to influence anything. Quite a hellish existence for such a Control Freak.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • While at the concert, Marinette alludes to an incident that closed out her last semester, expressing her hopes that Chloé will actually learn from whatever happened. We later learn that she's currently on probation.
    • During breakfast, Mrs. Rossi warns her daughter that "Your reputation cannot take another hit," hinting at how she's already been exposed as a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing even before regaining her memories of the original timeline.
    • While looking up her own history, Chloé is shocked to learn that she was Caught on Tape, noting that she doesn't remember the school having security cameras before. A later Flashback reveals that Sabine insisted on their installation before Marinette started attending, and that this also ties into Damocles' absence/Mendeleiev being the principal instead.
    • Juleka shows up late to the first class of the day, stating that they had to help somebody out. It's all but stated outright later that she stopped to help Master Fu, earning the Black Cat Ring and becoming Black Feline.
    • During the first akuma battle, Coccinelle wields Street Sweeper's broom as a sword, with their fighting style directly compared to an expert fencer. The following chapter all but outright confirms that Coccinelle is actually Kagami.
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: One sign that Mrs. Rossi isn't the Pushover Parent Lila is used to manipulating anymore comes when she snaps at her daughter in this fashion during breakfast, not letting Lila get away with ignoring her.
  • The Gadfly: Adrien constantly teases Marinette, especially when it comes to her growing crush on Luka. He also responds to her threatening to cut off their friendship by smiling and taunting that she's made that empty threat so often that it's lost all meaning.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard:
    • If Hawk Moth hadn't brought Chloé and Lila into play, Ladybug and Chat Noir wouldn't have been able to recover the stolen Bee and Fox Miraculouses from them — or use those as backups when Hawk Moth got his hands on the Earrings and Ring. Also, the girls wouldn't have been able to hijack Gimmi and make their combined Wish if he hadn't gotten them involved in the first place.
    • By swapping lives with Marinette, Chloé effectively invalidated her own Karma Houdini Warranty; André isn't the Mayor anymore and can't use connections he doesn't have to protect his daughter.
    • Similarly, Lila coveted Adrien's seemingly charmed, privileged life without realizing just how tightly controlled and monitored his life was... making it much harder for her to pull off any of her usual tricks.
    • Before becoming aware that reality had been altered, Chloé and Lila behaved the same way they always did... and suffered the consequences of their actions; Chloé's currently on probation and runs the risk of going back to juvie if she keeps harassing Marinette, while Lila's rising star was sullied by all the scandals sparked by her lies.
    • Back when Marinette started attending Françoise Dupont, Damocles agreed to work with a Corrupt Politician who wanted to destroy the Dupain-Cheng's reputation by framing her young daughter for an incident. The plan backfired, and Damocles was left holding the bag.
    • Chloé and Lila's plan to sabotage the hotel by faking a massive health violation results in the girls accidentally releasing all the bugs they'd gathered on themselves, sparking off the fight that ends their already fragile "partnership".
  • Holier Than Thou: Chloé insists that Marinette's kindness and compassion is all just an act, outright calling her "holier than thou" as she schemes to sabotage the hotel.
  • Hollywood Restraining Order:
    • Downplayed with Chloé; while she's currently on probation and is supposed to keep her distance, she hasn't been removed from Bustier's class or Françoise Dupont. She also doesn't suffer any immediate punishment for approaching Marinette and Adrien at school, though the latter encourages her to keep pushing her luck.
    • Damocles has one forbidding him from approaching any of the Dupain-Chengs. Not only does he ignore it while akumatized, he slaps Marinette's hand away while rejecting her sympathy. Principal Mendeleiev reminds him of the court order while stating the authorities have been alerted.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: Damocles, following losing his job after trying and failing to slander the Dupain-Chengs, is stuck working as a street sweeper to make ends meet.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Chloé complains about Adrien making a scene over Alya's addition to their class, griping that he lacks dignity, while Lila fights the urge to point out how many temper tantrums the Spoiled Brat has thrown over not getting her way.
    • More generally speaking, Lila feels perfectly comfortable judging Chloé for being bratty, entitled and self-absorbed when she's really no better.
  • I Reject Your Reality: Damocles crosses all the way into this after being cleansed of his akumatization; surrounded by an unimpressed crowd of witnesses, he slaps away Marinette's hand, blames her and her mother for how he lost his job, and declares he's there to reclaim his position as principal, as if he's got any authority or ability to do so.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Despite their altered circumstances, Chloé remains The Bully who's tried tormenting Marinette and the rest of her classmates for years.
    • While André and Chloé live much more modestly, Audrey remains wealthy. She also hasn't been very involved in her daughter's life; Damocles reached out to her while he was still the principal, hoping to broker some deals in exchange for ignoring Chloé's bullying, but was never able to get through to her or get the payoff he desired.
    • Chapter 4 reveals that Chloé still pulled a Fire Alarm Distraction during Parents' Day, interrupting a presentation about baking that Tom and Roland were delivering together. It's just that this was a previous Parents' Day, and that she got caught thanks to the school's security cameras.
    • Lila still feels compelled to lie and "embellish" her life despite already being famous; her self-justification for this is wanting to ensure others don't forget about her or dismiss her as the "flavor of the month".
  • Internal Reveal: Hawk Moth, Chloé and Lila all learned who was behind the masks of Ladybug and Chat Noir when the supervillain managed to steal the Earrings and Ring, much to their shared shock.
  • Irony: Gabriel's plan for the Wish was to use it to revive his wife. In the new reality created by Lila and Chloé's wish, Emilie was revived due to everyone's roles being swapped around.
  • Jaw Drop: Chloé's jaw slackens when Adrien makes a less than complimentary remark about her proclaimed friendship with Lila, as she's not used to her childhood friend showing a spine or criticizing anyone.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: Lila and Chloé's joint Wish accidentally voided theirs; Chloé stripped away the protection she once enjoyed as the Mayor's daughter, while Lila's higher profile sparked scandal when her Celebrity Lies got exposed.
  • Karmic Jackpot:
    • In the rewritten reality, Marinette is now the daughter of Mayor Sabine, while her father runs a hotel. While she's still had to deal with Chloé's bullying, the other girl isn't a Rich Bitch protected by her dad's wealth anymore; all the resources Chloé took for granted effectively belong to Marinette now.
    • Adrien also qualifies; sure, he doesn't have as much material wealth anymore, but he's got loving parents, a happy history with Marinette as his childhood friend instead of the Spoiled Brat Chloé, and has been free to explore his own interests to his heart's content.
  • Liar Revealed: This actually happened to Lila off-screen, as part of her Backstory in the rewritten timeline.
  • Mama Bear: While Sabine was always known for being ruthless in her mayoral campaigns, it was when one attempted opponent tried to slander Marinette that she showed just how vicious she could be, with said attempted opponent being so utterly disgraced he pulled out instantly and Damocles, who the man had as his accomplice, was ruined so badly he had to work as a street sweeper to make ends meet.
  • Meaningless Villain Victory: For all intents and purposes, Lila and Chloé did win in the original timeline, since the heroes were unable to prevent them from making their selfish Wish. It's just that, in making said wish, both girls gave up any power they already had in exchange for what they believed they'd get with Marinette and Adrien's lives...which turns out to be literally nothing.
  • My God, You Are Serious!: Adrien bursts out laughing when Chloé asks her "Adrikins" to let her start over by sitting with him. Once he realizes she was actually serious, he nearly falls out of his chair from laughing so hard.
  • Near-Villain Victory: Sadly Averted in the original timeline. After having their original Miraculouses stolen, Marinette and Adrien rallied using the recovered Bee and Fox to fight back. However, this gave Lila and Chloé the chance to make their selfish Wishes while the heroes were distracted.
  • Never My Fault:
    • During her first meeting with Luka, Marinette observes that this is one of Chloé's biggest problems: she refuses to acknowledge just how many of her problems are entirely of her own creation.
    • As far as Lila's concerned, she's not to blame for the scandals that forced her mother to resign; she was merely corrupted by her fame. If she wasn't so famous already, she wouldn't feel compelled to lie to maintain her high profile.
    • Damocles refuses to acknowledge that he was responsible for the incident that cost him his job, blaming Sabine and her "brat of a daughter".
    • During their fight, Lila and Chloé blame each other for the Wish screwing both of them over. Neither of them are willing to acknowledge that they're both at fault, let alone how they brought this on themselves by wishing for what they "deserved".
  • New Friend Envy: Adrien shows shades of this when Alya shows up; he makes a point of sitting next to Marinette at school and insisting that "Marinette and her family know who their friends are."
  • New Transfer Student: Both Alya and Lila are starting their first day at Françoise Dupont when the story begins; in the latter's case, this is due to her trading places/circumstances with Adrien.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • At some point in the past, Kim threw a massive pool party at the hotel that the Dupain-Chengs own. While Adrien claims he tried to rein him in, both boys ended up having to Work Off the Debt after said party wound up on the news in order to keep their parents from being fined over the incident, and Kim wound up being banned from the pool premises entirely due to something he did while working there.
    • Anarka got herself banned from the yearly music festival after causing property damage the previous year.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Anarka would likely have a better chance of being allowed to participate in the annual music festival again if she was willing to pay her fines rather than constantly and loudly protesting in front of city hall. Marinette notes that she's only succeeded in racking up more fines thus far.
  • Off to Boarding School: Mrs. Rossi's final threats to Lila: if any videos of her brawling with Chloé surface or they get visited by a lawyer for any reason, she'll ship her daughter off to a private disciplinary school and ensure she never goes without an escort again.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: Lila thought to take advantage of how Hawk Moth had summoned Gimmi by sneaking over to make a Wish while he and the heroes were distracted fighting each other. Chloé also exploited this, or at least got involved when she noticed what Lila was doing.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Adrien and Marinette are this in the rewritten reality, with the former even teasing the latter after meeting Luka for the first time.
  • Plot Parallel:
    • Both André and Mrs. Rossi had their political careers destroyed by their daughters' selfish Wish. André's was retconned completely out of existence, while Mrs. Rossi was forced to step down from her job as an Italian ambassador when her daughter was exposed as a bullying Bitch in Sheep's Clothing.
    • Lila's backstory in the new timeline includes an incident that parallels how she treated Marinette: a girl at her previous school threatened her web of Celebrity Lies simply by existing, but struggled to get people to believe she was telling the truth. Lila then decided to rub salt in the wound with a Just Between You and Me moment; unlike with Marinette, though, her gloating got Caught on Tape and went viral.
    • Damocles is shown to be incredibly delusional, to the point that he seems to legitimately expect that simply returning to the school campus somehow heralds him reclaiming his "rightful" position as the principal from Mendeleiev. This mirrors how Chloé and Lila continue to believe that things will work out precisely the way they desire despite all mounting evidence to the contrary.
  • Reality Warping Is Not a Toy: Lila and Chloé get to learn this the hard way, as neither of their Wishes turn out remotely the way they had planned.
  • “The Reason You Suck” Speech: During their falling out, Lila calls Chloé out on being an utterly Spoiled Brat:
Lila: What you deserved? You deserved nothing; you are a spoilt entitled brat who got fed with a silver spoon ever since she was born and got everything handed to you! You want everyone to worship you just for existing and refuses to do any work to make things for yourself! I can see why your mother refused to have anything to do with you before and after the wish; I would be embarrassed to be related to you as well!
  • Recursive Fanfiction: Combines the premises of two different entries of The Lament Series, basically asking "What if Chloé and Lila made a combined Wish upon Gimmi?"
  • Resigned in Disgrace:
    • Mrs. Rossi was forced to step down from her position as an ambassador after her daughter was embroiled in scandals.
    • Damocles lost his job after his corruption was exposed by one of his own schemes; while mentally ranting about the whole situation, he complains about losing his tenure and the retirement package he was supposed to get.
  • Revenge by Proxy: Principal Damocles disliked the fact that Mayor Sabine insisted on strengthening security at Françoise Dupont, despite how this meant they were getting plenty of funding to afford all the upgrades. So he schemed to punish Marinette, who had only just started attending.
  • Rightful King Returns: Parodied; Damocles acts as though his return to the school campus is just such a moment, telling the students to rejoice now that their "rightful principal" is there to reclaim his job. Everyone just stares at him for a long, awkward moment before somebody throws a can at him.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: Both Lila and Chloé remember the original timeline, and Chloé is more than happy to inform the other girl of the significance of the date they've "awoken" at, as the first day of the new school year was the date Ladybug and Chat Noir made their debut. However, said timeline existed before they became aware of it, and their actions in the past come back to haunt them both.
  • Role Swap AU: The core of the girls' combined Wishes: Lila trades lives and circumstances with Adrien, while Chloé does the same with Marinette. This also led to Mrs. Rossi replacing Gabriel Agreste, with her husband founding a fashion company that she took over following his disappearance.
  • Rule of Symbolism: One of the only things Chloé didn't lose when reality got rewritten was Mr. Cuddly. In her final scene, she throws the teddy bear onto her bed and complains, underscoring how she's learned nothing from the whole ordeal and still doesn't appreciate anything.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: Chapter 5 reveals that Principal Damocles actively encouraged this kind of mentality during his tenure at Françoise Dupont; he was more than happy to give kids from wealthy and well-off families a free pass for any bad behavior, so long as their parents made generous donations to the school in return. This contributed to his grudge against Mayor Sabine, whose insistence on amping up security and investigating any issues made it tougher for him to be a corrupt Jerkass.
  • Secret Relationship: Lila claimed to be in one with a popular Teen Idol, which caused problems when it turned out he was actually dating a different girl from their school.
  • Secret Test of Character: Chloé misses out on her chance to earn the Ladybug Earrings when she not only fails to help Master Fu, but kicks the old man in the leg while yelling at him to "Get off of the pavement; destiny is calling!" Lila also ignores him when she spots him taking a tumble by the school gates.
  • Self-Inflicted Hell: Lila and Chloé would be able to salvage their new lives and make something better out of them... if they were only willing to stop being so spiteful and selfish.
  • Shipper on Deck: Adrien playfully remarks on Luka's "smooth opening line" after Marinette literally bumps into him at the concert, and declares that he's going to Leave the Two Lovebirds Alone, causing her to groan. Alya later gets in on the act, much to Marinette's dismay.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Slave to PR: The Rossis have to deal with this in the new timeline. Not just because of how Lila's mother has replaced Gabriel, either; Lila did something in the past that forced Mrs. Rossi to resign from her previous position as an Italian ambassador, and the rumors about that incident have already reached Françoise Dupont.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: An unnamed girl plays a major role in Lila's new Backstory: she was a former student at her last school who just happened to be secretly dating a teen idol whom Lila claimed to be with for clout. When said relationship was revealed, Lila’s fans initially condemned the poor girl as an Attempted Homewrecker. The truth of the matter was only revealed when Lila was Caught on Tape mocking the girl at school, causing Lila's reputation to take a huge hit and costing her mother her job.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Emilie is still alive in this universe, showing up along with her husband to check up on Adrien after Street Sweeper attacked the school.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Averted; despite Anarka constantly protesting how she was banned from participating in the music festival after causing property damage, she doesn't object to Juleka or Luka being friends with Marinette.
  • Tantrum Throwing: In her last scene, Chloé vents her frustrations upon Mr. Cuddly, one of the few possessions she retained between timelines.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork:
    • Lila and Chloé were only working together during the Final Battle because circumstances (and Hawk Moth) forced them to do so. Ladybug and Chat Noir were able to reclaim the stolen Fox and Bee Miraculouses as a result; unfortunately, Hawk Moth proved tougher to deal with, and while the girls nearly lost their opportunity to Make a Wish due to quarreling with each other, they hastily decided to combine their desires upon realizing they were about to lose out entirely.
    • Played With in the new reality. Chloé seems to assume that she and Lila are allies now, openly bragging to the whole class that she's close to the New Transfer Student. Lila's thoughts show that she definitely doesn't feel any bond or camaraderie whatsoever with Chloé, and that she's only tolerating her out of the belief that they have to work together.
  • Tempting Fate:
    • As she heads into Collège Françoise Dupont, Lila muses that she's about to have the best school day of her existence, blissfully unaware that nothing is likely to go the way she expects.
    • In the final chapter, while lamenting their current lots in life, Chloé and Lila both take solace in the fact that Marinette isn't a beloved hero in this reality. The final scene reveals that Marinette is currently in possession of the Fox Miraculous.
  • They Just Don't Get It: Chloé and Lila's final scenes drive home how they haven't learned anything from their experiences. Chloé complains about still having Mr. Cuddly "of all things", ignoring all of the other things she retained from the original timeline, like her loving father. Lila, meanwhile, remains completely in denial that Adrien ever had it hard, venting about how he never had to deal with the kind of Control Freak her mother has become.
  • Weight Loss Salad: Lila expects to celebrate waking up in her new-and-"improved" reality with a full English breakfast, only to find herself staring down a salad instead, as Nathalie reminds her that she's on a diet.
  • You're Just Jealous: According to Chloé, the only reason why the rest of her classmates hated her in the original timeline was because they were all envious of her being the Mayor's daughter. She doesn't understand why they don't scorn Marinette like they did her.
