Xavier's School for Hero Academia is a X-Men & My Hero Academia Crossover fanfiction by silverwolf_fox.

Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and U.A. Academy agree to conduct a student exchange with one another to narrow the divide between America's and Japan's cultures, which have vastly differing opinions on evolutionary powers.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), the chosen students are Kurt Wagner and Bakugo Katsuki, respectively.

This fic was last updated in September 24th, 2020, making this a Dead Fic.

Beware of Spoilers!

Xavier's School for Hero Academia has the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: It is implied that Bakugo has a Past Experience Nightmare, which causes his Quirk to go off in his sleep.
  • Artistic License – Education: In real life, the school must inform the would-be foreign exchange students about the current situation in the countries they will be sent to. Here, both Kurt and Bakugo only learn the difference between Japan and America's acceptance of superpowered people after they arrive in the countries, leaving them both mentally unprepared to adapt to the Culture Clash.
  • Commonality Connection: Kurt and Mina are bonding over the fact that their physical looks make it troublesome for their dating life, and later, when Kurt shows his true form, Mina is quick to call themselves "horn buddies" over sharing having a pair of horns on their head.
  • Did I Just Say That Out Loud?: When Kurt let his tail out the day after Aizawa asked him to, Class 1A asks why he didn't do it before, to which Izuku loudly guesses correctly that America is not as openly accepting of people with Quirks, before quickly closing his mouth shut when he realizes that everyone is staring at him.
  • Foreign Exchange Student: Invoked, as the fic is about student exchange, with Kurt being one for U.A. Academy, and Bakugo being one for Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
  • Fish out of Water: It's the name of the conflict of this fic, where two superpowered students are separately experiencing Culture Clash, which puts them in Stunned Silence when they first learn of it:
    • Bakugo, grown up in an environment where people constantly praise him for his Quirk, is now attending a school overseas where the muggles fear superpowers and is forced to play along with them, lest he gets in trouble with the law, which is rarely in favor of the Mutants.
Bakugo: I used my quirk, and the people acted like they had never seen a quirk before. Why?
Ororo: I’m afraid that mutations aren’t as accepted here as they are in Japan.
      Bakugo:...What?
    • Inversely, Kurt, who has been ostracized for his looks, is trying to adjust to living in a country where people are loud and proud with their mutations and powers, as shown when Mina laughs when he mentions how people with more visible mutations that he knows of must live in secret out of fear of prejudice, thinking that he was joking.
Utterly speechless, Kurt stood frozen and watched Ashido leave, apparently finished with their conversation. How different was this country that even the idea of a mutant having to hide away underground was laughable?
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Bobby, alongside Kitty and a reluctant Sam, are planning to prank Bakugo in his sleep to give him a serving of a Humble Pie, only for him to attack them mid-sleep, thinking that it was merely his nightmares again, blowing up his room and heavily injuring Kitty.
  • Holographic Disguise: Kurt uses Image Inducer to keep his true look hidden.
  • Innocently Insensitive: When he sees Mina being approached by some guys in the mall who are her fans from watching the Sport Festival, Kurt thinks she is about to be harassed for her looks. This makes Mina uncomfortable, as it is an unspoken taboo to point out other people's physical differences loudly.
Uraraka: It’s not that you did anything wrong.
Yaoyorozu: There’s sort of an unspoken rule about bringing attention to non-human mutations. It’s more a matter of manners than anything else. Typically, people don’t really care, as mutation quirks are perfectly natural, but you referenced her unique appearance as being a reason someone would want to hurt her.
Kurt: I vasn’t trying to say zey should or zat zere vas anything wrong viz how she looks, but I know people vith quirks zat vere attacked just for hafing powers, and zose zat don’t look human are treated even vorse.
Uraraka: We know you didn’t mean any harm, Kurt-san. Just talk to her tonight. I’m sure she’ll understand.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Bakugo has this reaction when he learns from Xavier and Logan that he injured Kitty in his sleep.
  • Promoted to Love Interest:
    • In this fic, Izuku and Todoroki are dating.
    • Bakugo and Kirishima are also in a relationship in this fic.
  • Translator Microbes:
    • Kurt is given a set that consists of a collar and a pair of earbuds that translate his speech into Japanese and the things he hears into English.
    • Subverted with Bakugo, who has rudimentary knowledge of the English language, but relies on his phone's text-to-speech for the more complicated words, which can give out clunky results.
      "My sweat goes boom."
  • Willfully Weak: Subverted; After Kurt loses against Sero during the battle training, Aizawa demands he let his tail out, as he can tell that he could've won with it, but he let his fear of being judged for his look take priority.
“I briefly saw it when Sero first pinned you down before it disappeared. You prioritized coddling your insecurity over defeating your opponent. I won’t accept a student who doesn’t take his training seriously. If this happens again, I have no qualms sending you back to New York.”
  • Working Out Their Emotions: After his first day at the high school for his general education (since Xavier's school only provides the superpower training), Bakugo is planning to physically vent over his frustration over the discrimination using the Danger Room. Logan, not wanting the blonde boy to break the facility, instead has him spar with him in the school's backyard.
  • You Remind Me of X:
    • Bakugo calls Kitty Pride "fake Ponytail", as she looks like Yaoyorozu, but does not share her personality.
    • Many of Xavier's School's students compare Bakugo to Logan due to his abrasive nature and foul mouth.
